A weekday evening, no crowds which was pleasant. The service and food was excellent.
It was lovely evening. We watched the sun set. Food was hot and delicious and beautifully arranged. We have no complaints. The drink was strong. I have had mai tai before usually vey watered down. This was not. Thank you. The service was great. We enjoyed ourselves so very much. Thank you for the delicious dessert on the house. We enjoyed our Anniversary dinner. Thank you again.
We were able to sit outside which we preferred due to COVID. The food, as always, was delicious. Our server, Olivia, was a joy and made our evening (my birthday) fun and enjoyable. And the chocolate soufflé comped for my birthday treat was delicious and a surprise! Can't wait to return.
Service was fantastic. Food was not worth the price. you are definitely paying for the name and location. My food was cold when it came out and had to be reheated. It came back with a perfect temperature but lacked in flavor. Lobster was fresh.
We booked Roy's to treat out of town guests on a weekend trip to San Diego.
Previously dined at Newport Beach location. We were amazed at the portion downsizing on shrimp salad. The salad had 1 shrimp diced if that with greens for $17.00. Crazy! Charge more for a shrimp salad and put shrimp on it!!
Service was good. Holiday weekend place was empty. Guess i know why.
Staff was friendly and courteous. However, management needs to pay attention to details that ensure this level of restaurant lives up to its rating. My mother, who was celebrating her birthday, ordered an ordinary blended margarita -- nothing unusual for any food/drink establishment. Was told they couldn't do that because they didn't have a blender. No blender at a restaurant?? Then she ordered hot green tea. Was told they only had the basic earl grey type, nothing else. At a 4-star restaurant? We could get type of offering somewhere else without paying a $400 bill. Sadly, this place continues to go downhill with every visit. Will not return.
The restaurant is downtown San Diego inside the Marriott, which made it a challenge to find. The Canoe appetizer and Lobster bisque were perfectly prepared, and we recommend both. The entrees were tasty, and the dessert was special.
I wanted to acknowledge the Manager-Violet. She was very professional, and we enjoyed visiting with her.
Arrived for a 4pm reservation a day the hostess was welcoming and energetic. She was great and sat us at a corner table with a beautiful view. Service and view were better than food and I was left a bit disappointed bc we have eaten at other Roy's and been very impressed. I do recommend the sticky ribs and the tempura roll. Sauces are all excellent at Roy's, just underwhelmed with entree.
Great food and friendly staff. Make sure to order the chocolate souffle!
My experience at Roy’s was very pleasant. All staff members with whom I had the chance to interact were very kind and helpful. The ambiance was nice, I sat on the outside patio near some heaters. The food was delicious!
We went for our anniversary and the table had a card and orchids on it 🥰
Their specialty entrees were really good!
Food was ok, but on the bland side. The shellfish combo was disappointing (flavor was so-so; only ONE scallop!). The mahi-mahi and the filets mignon were good.
Service was good, but the food was fair at best. Definitely not worth the prices.
The food was wonderful. The staff was on the spot and not overbearing, very helpful with the wine.
Great food, service and view. One of San Diego's best. Thank you.
Amanda was a great server
Well prepared, expertly served Roy’s classics including spring rolls, lobster bisque, butterfish and braised short ribs. Highly recommended!
We sat outside near the fire pit and Christina the bartender was our waitress. When a wonderful person she is, constantly attentive and making all of the guests feel special. Christina is a a credit to your restaurant and it is people like her that keep us coming back to Roys in San Diego. Please thank her for me. She is a wonderful person and a great ambassador for the Roy's brand.
We love Roy’s - maybe past experiences have been just so amazing that tonight just didn’t quite match them taste and service-wise but the ambiance outside and inside was amazing.
Just because it was NYE they charged $150/guest but the food was a 1/5; the sea bass in particular was rubbery. There were no fireworks show or anything special for the price. They didn’t even have live music, and the music from the radio was very low. However the staff was nice and polite.
No frescos, no buen sazón, nada nada recomendable.
Que lastima que se aprovechen del día que todos queremos celebrar para dar un menú malo y caro.
Misleading when booked via OpenTable. We didn’t know it was a prix fix until we were seated and presented with the menu. We booked via OpenTable for regular restaurant menu.
Server forgot it was my birthday and I felt awkward to tell her again. Other than that, food was impressive as usual.
Really bad quality food for the $125/person prefix menu
Albert is the best waiter ever!!! So attentive! He made our New year's Eve dinner so much better. Food was exceptional, except that it would have been nicer if the shrimp in the bouillabaisse had been shelled.
If I could rate the server Holiday separately from the manager for service, I would give Holiday a 5 star rating and the manager 1. We were not told in advance that they were only offering a prix fixe menu, even when they called to confirm our reservation for New Year’s Eve. We would not have gone. We have eaten at Roy’s numerous times and enjoyed their food but this is the first time at this location. The prix fixe menu was grossly overpriced, especially when you compare the component items. The “crab cake” consisted of a small scoop of some crab mixture but in no way resembled a crab cake. The steak was under seasoned but cooked properly. The food overall was uninspired and did not represent the typical quality we have had at Roy’s in the past. We also ended up paying double what we had intended for dinner, not a pleasant way to start NYE. Our server Holiday gave us excellent care but the manager was ridiculously unhelpful to the point that I wonder if he is the manager and not just someone standing in for the night.
It was nothing short from amazing. Everything was great from service
It was NYE set menu, so limited choices but the options were very good. Their pineapple martini to start was excellent. And the first dish with smoke salmon with fresh beets was a great palate cleanser. Always good food and service at Roys.
Disappointed. Expensive fixed menu, entrees were barely warm, dessert was a knockoff version of the usual menus items. We were rushed and were never asked how the food was or if we needed anything.
We were celebrating our anniversary and looked forward to dining at Roy’s. Our main server was very good and attentive. But, we felt like the restaurant wanted to hurry us through our dinner. We got our starters before we were done with the amuse bouche. At a restaurant of this caliber, that should never happen. While we finished our amuse bouche, my husband’s soup was cooling off and then he had to wait for a spoon. These things seem trivial, but , again, at a restaurant of this caliber, those little details should not be overlooked. Overall, the food was good but not as good as I remember having there in the past. The meal with 2 glasses of wine, 1 cocktail and a generous tip came to $375 for just the 2 of us….so the meal did not live up to its cost.
Love the ambiance- great outdoor patio and inside the restaurant overlooks the San Diego Bay. We get the same food items every time we dine. The Lakanlau sushi rool, which is a sushi roll with crab meat wrapped in rice with a thin layer of wagyu beef with a special sauce dab on the top. Delicious! The Tuna Poke and spring rolls are also delicious. Top it off with Roy's special lava cake and ice cream. Love this meal so much we come to San Diego once a month to have it. Service is also always amazing. The staff will do special things like a dessert for your birthday or anniversary.
One word: amazing. From start to finish, service and food was unbelievable.
A rare night together as a family. Great service! Great recommendations. Great food and drink. Despite a little sprinkle in the middle of our (outdoor) experience—we really enjoyed ourselves.
Excellent food done different than others. Our waiter was a professional who made our experience more enjoyable.
I have been to Roy's many times. Every other time it was amazing, but something was off on this visit. The food was very salty (Lobster bisque) and the order was wrong (braised beef and not spare ribs).
I will probably not visit the Roy's in San Diego again.
Olivia was an amazing server and everyone was so friendly. My dad loved his steak and my mom loved her sea bass. We shared a pineapple cake and soufflé for dessert which were perfect for my moms birthday. Also shoutout to Tina for the tasty Mai Tai!
Interesting fusion - I recommend this restaurant
We were seated 10 minutes after our reservation and then waited over an hour and a half to receive our meals. We were told that was because 4 chefs called out. Management should have started restricting reservations when he was aware of that. Our kid fell asleep at the table waiting for our food. Management did comp a dessert and one of the entrees which was appreciated.
