Dependable as always. Quality food for the price. One of our favorites when we are near enough to go to a Roy’s.
Thanks again for a great evening.
everyone was happy with the food and service and the waiter was happy to split bill and separate the alcohol.
Delicious food, attentive but not intrusive service, in a setting that exuded luxury. Prices felt a little high, but even with drinks and dessert, our party of three had no complaints, given that our dinner at Roy’s was intended to be a splurge.
Food used to be good, not the same quality . I ordered the "Butter Fish" entre and there were hardly any sauce comes with it. Rice was a bit on a drier side, was hoping the sauce would complement the rice, therefore a bit disappointed if my entree.
I grew up dining at Roy's most of my life, unfortunately, food and quality of services had gone down the hill as well. Old school rules back in the days. Not my kind of place to spent over $250 on meals that was not the way I used to enjoyed, especially on my Birthday. ...
I have to say I was very disappointed in my most recent visit to Roy's, I have had such good experiences in the past. The food took forever to come out and when it did both of the steaks were dry, overcooked and charred. Very disappointing.
Dinner was super expensive for minimum amount of food and quality was just okay
The Bus Person was awesome. Other waiters knew their job better than our Waiter; especially regarding the menu and special menu (Valentines Day). Food was solid, but not as good as in past experiences. The sun was directly in our eyes, but the Waiter nor anyone asked us if they could put the shade down for us even though we told our Waiter that it was brutal. BTW - We were wearing our sunglasses inside the restaurant.
Great food and great venue
They seemed overwhelmed for Valentine’s Day crowd. Everything was slow and servers asked us a few times if someone else’s meal was ours. Chilean sea bass was fishy but they quickly replaced it with the AHI which was excellent. Normally love this place but Valentines experience was not the greatest
We came on Valentine’s Day and only got wine and an appetizer never brought my soup we were there for about an hour that’s why I got up and complain a room
The only disappointment was I had reserved a window table 4-5 months in advance and upon arrival a couple who just walked in was waiting for it and got it.
The hostess who sat us seemed not to care.
We were celebrating my daughter’s bday and Valentine’s Day
It was my first time, and overall dinner was good. The only item didn't care for was the crabcake on the surf and turf entree, everything else was delicious. Would have preferred to have been seated in booth instead of table. Will request booth next time. The price was high but will be back for special occasions or any specials. Thanks!
Valentine’s Day dinner was fabulous!
What a lovely Valentine's dinner! Everything was perfect from the service, to the food. It was a perfect evening! Thank you!!
First time at Roy’s and we were blown away! Exception service, food quality, and the view was phenomenal!
The food was the real disappointment here. Very expensive cafeteria food. We were so excited for a great valentines dinner only to wish we had chosen somewhere else. Wouldn’t go back again.
The restaurant was too cold 2/14/20. day
We were late due to a hazard on the freeway but were immediately accommodated. I was so thankful seeing as how it is Valentines Day. Our table was upstairs overseeing the Marina and the items selected on the Valentines menu were everything I usually order and more. The food was amazing! The ambience was perfect. Service was spectacular. It was everything my husband and I needed. Every visit is always better than the last.
Enjoyable Valentines lunch. Server was excellent. Food was great. Wonderful table looking at the San Diego harbour.
Sat outside on the patio. Great service. My boyfriend got the salmon and absolutely loved it. I got the fish trio and loved it as well. Definitely will be back.
Restaurant was temperature uncomfortable. Food was average at best.
First, thought Roy's to be a good choice for an early evening Valentines-eve dinner. Difficult to find parking and difficult to "find" Roy's restaurant through the Marriott maze...an odd location without nearby parking access. As the dinner progressed, so did the noise-level...large table of eight drank more and more and got louder and louder...wish we had reservations at 5:30 instead of 6 pm so we would have been saved the rudeness.
Enjoyed the Ahi tuna and a fresh salad.
Made the mistake of going to Roy’s SD Waterfront during a MAJOR convention, despite it being a Monday night. The food was served very late. We waited 15 mins for a pupu sushi dish, another 15 mins for a salad an lobster bisc. The bisc was served w/o a spoon so had to wait another few minutes to get the attention of staff. And a 15 min wait for the two mains. I’m sure it had to do with the huge business they had. But it was sub-par to all our prior experiences with Roy’s in CA and HI. The Jumbo Shrimp entree was over the top rich sauce which meant the noodle bed was underwhelming. It was decent service but not up the the high standards we have come to expect.
We were seated by the window right where the kitchen was, there were no lights above the table and the server told us to just use our flashlights on our phones. We asked to move to another table which seemed to be somewhat of a difficult request. I order my favorite at Roy's, the Butterfish. It was drowning in the sauce that it looked like soup and it totally ruined the taste of the fish. My colleague ordered the short ribs and they were like jerky and inedible. In generally love Roy's and have enjoyed it in many other cities, but this location was not what we expected. Others that attended the same conference also had negative comments on the food and service. Get it together guys because you are ruining a much loved brand.
Our first restaurant review and I wish it was a good one. We reserved an outside table, but we were chased out of that area by staff because of a private event. A "buy out" they told us. So they sat us upstairs, inside. We kept an open mind about it, but it was like a small hotel conference room. Not very Aloha, not attractive, noisy, and dark. It would be better to see the color of what you're eating. The food was OK, and the server was good. We were not allowed to have a drink at the bar afterwards. Perhaps another Roy's location would have been a better overall experience.
I’ve been to Roy’s in Hawaii and had a good experience. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for San Diego. Ahi tuna appetizer poke was disappointing and overpriced. The Butterfish, which is normally a mild-tasting fish and supposedly a home specialty, was “fishy”-tasting and underwhelming. The wait staff was pleasant, but couldn’t explain different entree preparations, which was a further disappointment. Sadly, I won’t be returning anytime soon.
1. An attractive, pleasant restaurant with a great view.
2. Tasty, inventive food, though one dish was served lukewarm. Maybe a little too much dressing on the salad and sauce on the fish.
3. Friendly, but haphazard service. Too slow at the start and finish, but overly prompt during the meal. Main course was served just as we finished the starters. Had to ask twice for some additional plates.
4. I hadn’t been to a Roy’s for quite a while and left with mixed feelings. Would probably rate this as a B+ dining experience. At this price point, it could have been a little more consistent.
Unfortunately, we felt ripped off when we paid the bill because the $20 Bonus card we purchased was said to have a zero balance. What a rip off! I wrote to customer service yesterday and have not yet received a response. Very unsettling to buy a $100 gift card with the promise of two $20 bonus cards according to Roy's promotion and then not have them work.
The waitress was very scattered brained. Also, my food was not warm.
You can't go wrong at Roy's! Thank you for making our birthday dinner celebration for my wife even more special with great wine and delicious food! The sea bass for my wife was amazing and I was super impressed by the Vegan and Vegetarian menu options that they provided as well. The tofu with kung pao sauce was incredible as was the Vegetable Napoleon! We highly recommend Roy's to anyone who wants great seafood or alternative preparations, thanks again-we can't wait to come back!
Fun, great food!
I was shown to a table that offered a fine sunset view of the marina. The hostess and the server were welcoming. Helpful suggestions from the server guided my choices. Flavorful crab dumplings were to my liking. Black cod was perfectly cooked as the flesh was moist and the seasonings did not overpower the fish. Creative efforts were evident in the presentation of the rice. The server cautioned me that the chocolate soufflée would require a twenty minute preparation. It is worth considering. As he placed it before me, the toasty notes of the cocoa greeted me, fresh from the oven. Good choice of wine offered as well as specials in addition to the regular menu. Only suggestion for a higher rating from me would be the offer of bread or small amuse-bouche while waiting for the food to arrive.
Special request via Open Table was granted.
Our server Kimberly was outstanding, she has a great personality and was very attentive to our needs and requests. Excellent service, very pleasant experience food was delicious, most definitely be back to Roy's
Lea, our server, was other-world awesome. We were celebrating my Fiancé’s retirement and birthday! Worth every penny! Our table was excellent, we were met with a birthday card. Food was delicious! Not our first time nor our last. We mentioned that our wedding is two weeks away, and we were pleasantly surprised with champagne at the end of our meal! My, my, my! Just a lovely evening all around!
No celebration at all. Food was not worth its price. Service was very helpful and overall good.
I understand that it was New Years eve and it was a 4 course meal, but the it took almost two hours to complete. We had to rush them torwards the end to get where we had to go.
We visited here on New Year's Eve when they had a special menu. Everything was delicious, they did not hurry us, and Lea was a great server. She stopped by to check just when we needed her.
Awful. Over the top expensive for micro size portions. Nothing appeared to be fresh. Tasteless and unimaginative. Got rushed though like cattle. Thankfully we had gift cards. Waiter never introduced him self. Not returning or recommending.
New Year’s Eve dinner fantastic!
