The lobster bisque was the only memorable dish. The scallops were also decent. The service was terrible. The food was middle of the road. You’re paying for the tablecloth.
sauces and blackened tempura overpowered the sushi. risotto was mushy.
unfortunately, this restaurant has dropped in quality. The food is not as good as the last time I've been there (granted it was 5 years ago) and definitely not as good as the Roy's in Hawaii.
Ordered Calamari, ribs, lobster potstickers, fried shrimp, miso soup appetizers, classic four entree, the house cab, two sushi rolls, and the molten chocolate dessert.
Everything was good.
Roy’s has lost some of its mojo. It’s still an OK place to eat and the location is nice with a good view. The food is good service is great priced a little high for the quality. For those that have not experience anything better this will be an excellent place to eat!
Roy's is amazing! Food is great, service is great, and it's right on the Marina so the view is really good. We ate so much, we walked down the Marina and it was so nice. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Everytime I am in San Diego I make a point to come here for dinner.
We were pleasantly surprised by Roy's! We went to the downtown San Diego location which is through the Marriott. Requested outdoor seating and had a gorgeous view of yachts in the harbor. The food was so delicious, we didn't want to share :) Will definitely be returning!
This restaurant is very expensive, the service is OK, the food is not so good.
My half chicken was over cooked and very dry, and my daughters steak should have been medium rare and was well done. And, our server was officious rather than friendly and personable. We won’t return.
We made reservations here for our 15th anniversary and our friends 15th anniversary. The presentation of the food was beautiful however the taste was mediocre. Most of our meals were drenched in overpowering sweet sauce that took away from the taste of eating seafood. The table they put us at was near the kitchen in a very dark area with one spotlight that was directly over my husband’s head, making it hot for him and hard to see for the rest of us. It was next to the glass so we could see the view but unfortunately the glass was somewhat dirty. We knew this place was expensive and it was a special occasion and we expected the ambience and food two equal The level of expense. The one thing that we did appreciate is the bottle of wine we chose turned out to have an undesired flavor and the waiter traded it out with a different wine without charging us for the first bottle.
This was recommended to me, and it did not disappoint. The staff were amazing. We had a seat overlooking the water. The food was great. Ordered a sushi appetizer and had the soufflé for dessert. Would definitely visit again.
Everything was very well, except for the New York strip, it had a lot of gristle and was hard to cut through, and to add on top of that we were given a dull knife. The lobster mac & cheese was extremely overbearing with garlic, almost to the point of not being edible. A complementary dish would be nice, such as breadsticks, bruschetta, etc... The wine was delicious. Would have fit if the dishes were about $5 to $7 cheaper. However, would return again.
I made a reservation here a week in advance. I noted that it was a very special occasion, my 25th wedding anniversary and specifically requested outdoor seating with a good view. We ate at the Roy's in Hawaii on our honeymoon and my husband really liked it. So I specifically chose this place and was hoping to make it special. We were visiting from out of town, so I researched the location and we even stopped in earlier in the day and I checked with the hostess to make sure she had my reservation and my request and she did. We arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation time and when I checked in with the hostess she immediately asked do you want inside or outside, hmm, well my reservation request was for outside, so I responded with outside and that we would like a table along the glass with a view, like my request. She responded that they didn't have any of those available. Wow, I cannot go back and redo our 25th anniversary. I feel like they could have cared less that I even made a reservation. I could have walked in off the street without a reservation and received the same treatment. Disappointed. We ended up eating there and the food was great, just really really disappointed about the seating/reservation situation.
Enjoyed a romantic evening on the patio overlooking the bay. Staff was very attentive and had a fee desert for our anniversary.
Our waitress Leah was terrific! Nice outside seating.
We first dined at the original Roy’s in Honolulu shortly after it opened over 30 years ago. Since then we have eaten at over ten Roy’s locations and never had a complaint. It is an extraordinary story of consistent excellence. The San Diego venue was no exception.
Fine dining prices with fast food service. Not much thought into food presentation/quality but understand the market you cater to based on location. Waiter was cool and dismissive. Very rushed despite reservation and many other open tables. No time between courses and barely finished dessert when we were presented our bill. Not the best $180+ I have spent. Overall disappointed.
Good food and good service nice atmosphere Had the seafood plate and my wife had the lobster and steak dinner
We had great service and the food was delicious. We shared lobster roll. I had the butterfish, my favorite. For dessert we had the lava cake also delicious., be sure to order it early.
Great place for a special event! Food and service were on point and the view is spectacular!
Great venue and views; decent “corporate “ food; perfunctory service
Great food and great views!! Mediocre service at best!!
Staff was extremely friendly.
They also took our appetizer off the final bill, as well as give us a free desert; due to it being my Wife & I’s anniversary.
An amazing restaurant with excellent food, service and staff.
The food and service excellent. It is a bit pricey for my wallet but it is very good.
Our waiter Adam was terrific and the food was delicious. Thank you to Ryan Wilbanks , managing partner, for the invitation to dine at Roy’s.
Great service. Phenomenal food. Pricey but worth it.
I ordered a beer from the bar. Bartender said they ran out but would check in the back. Never saw him again. Ordered it at my table they gave me on that was warm then said oh sorry they just stocked the refrigerator. Not good customer service in my opinion
Overall not on same level as Hawaii. Service slow, food ok but not special. I ordered surf and turf with lobster tail extremely small. Would not dine here again as the local competitors much better. We are looking forward to Hawaii again in February
we had to walk long from the parking lot. Server was very attentive and we enjoyed the dinner.
Fantastic dining experience on the marina. Food was top rate--the steak and lobster were absolutely perfect, and the scalloped potatoes were the best we have ever had. Our server was attentive and responsive, with a great sense of humor and wonderful personality. We will definitely come back for the food, for the service, and for the view.
Both salmon dishes were underwhelming- salmon over-cooked and dry. Bummer☹️
In general, the food was very good, though one dish was Luke warm and it took so long to find a server that the other diners had finished their dinner.
Then insufficient Open Table points were credited to my account.
Overall, not the excellent experience we usually have at Roy’s.
Our server appear to be attentive at the beginning of dinner but he definitely was not. We asked him to pass our dinner and everything came out one on top of the other. Very frustrating when you request things to be different and the restaurant was almost empty when we were there. Not a great value and we have been here many times and definitely will not return.
To put it simply, don't go. The food is average, at best. There are S0 many other great restaurants in San Diego! Don't waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!!
Food, service, value everything was great.
Everything was great except the waitress wasn’t at the level of attentiveness and seemed to be bothered by any requests. And I to remind her of the special deal that they were running... in fact she never said what specials they had that day.
Roy's is a great restaurant in a beautiful location in the harbor! The service was excellent! The food is very expensive $$$$ and it's good, but $54 for a piece of fish with some potatoes, veggies and a nice sauce is allot. However, again... You're paying for location location location!
" Chis Our Server Was Very Nice "
My wife and I went to Roy's Waterfront Restaurant again and Again the food and Service was First Class ! Chis our server had a great personality and came by our table several time to make sure our meal was the best. My wife and I shared a Lobster California Roll, a bowl of
Crispy Wok Fried Shrimp Tempura, and our favorite of all times at Roy's the Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs with Roy's Original great Mongolian BBQ Sauce. Ryan Wilbanks the Managing Partner at Roy's Waterfront came by our table to make sure everything was going well. Roy's food is Great, their Service is Great, and the views out the window of the Harbor is Great !
This has always been our go to when we are in town. Unfortunately the server was too busy to pay attention to our table. We asked her to pace our meal, Appetizers and dinner came out one after the other. The sea bass entree had bones in it, I pointed this out to our server she said it was because the sea bass was caught locally. What? I have never ever had sea bass served to me full of bones. It was ridiculous, I did not eat it. Not worth choking, there was not enough light to see the bones. Will not go back.
Amazing chilean sea bass!!
