Our waitress was fantastic! Best ever, in fact.
The food was good.
The hard surfaces make for too much noise.
Everybody greets with Aloha. But they look at you funny when you say Mahalo.
The optional valet parking situation could be better.
Best overall dining experience in Palm Desert. The friendly ambiance, delicious menu options, considerate service and sheer inventiveness is irresistible. We love to sit in the seats overlooking the high tech orchestration of the kitchen. What an amazing team!!
The food was magnificent, The Chilean Sea Bass special was cooked to perfection.
Service was below expected level: delayed, had to ask for water repeatedly, had to ask to have dishes cleared, asked for bread and did not receive it, etc.
Enjoyed the evening with my friends , they loved the food and our service was excellent
Ever since Roy sold the restaurant... it is not as fantastic as it used to be. I was looking more for a fusion flare. It was good... but not great. Also I had to return my lemon drop martini. We enjoyed the bottle of wine that we brought in. It was great that they did not charge a corkage fee. that was a bonus.
I made this reservation a month in advance to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday with 2 other couples. I requested “a very special table” when I made the reservation, then called a week before AND the day of to re-confirm that everything was set. Not only were we not at a “special” table, were put at a table in the back room, where the ambiance was awful and we felt like an after thought. The service was beyond terrible, with long periods of complete and total disregard. I finally went to find “Randy”, the “managing partner”, who, while apologetic, was completely unable to remedy the situation. Service remained slow and totally sub-par. Flatware was not replaced as needed, drinks not refilled, plates not cleared. I finally requested a coffee (it was never offered), but the server didn’t bother to ask if anyone else wanted one. I am beyond disappointed; I am appalled. Roy himself would be appalled and embarrassed to have his name associated with this establishment.
Disappointed! We were seated in a side room away from the main dining room. It looked like it was meant for private parties. The table was wobbly and the chairs were uncomfortable. My husband and I both ordered the chef’s specialities. Although the prepreration was good, my Opal was dry and tasteless. I would halve preferred a smaller piece of fish and more sweet potato purée. I don’t know if we will dine at this location again.
Food was amazing.. The seabass was tender, flavorful and tasty. A great dish. My wife had the tiger prawns, excellent. Service by Trinidad was exceptional. Intentive and professional. Overall an excellent experience.
Delicious seafood, as always! Especially loved the scallops with coconut black rice, truly memorable.
Excellent in every respect. Mahimahi perfect among other things. Excellent service etc
Amazing service and food! Celebrated my birthday at Roy’s and they made the evening very special!
Great food and beverages
Great gluten-free options. They were able to accommodate us, even though we were early. All three of us loved our meals.
Food was great and we had a wonderful time
Been coming here for twenty years now. Food was good, service seemed strained due to late delivery of items and missed item. Took 15-20 minutes to even get cocktails, so not sure what happened. Edamame took forever. Overall, event could have easily been cut by 30 minutes, along with soufflé which should have been entered early for prep, but I suspect never was.
Ok. Not as good as usual. Portions very small and overpriced.
Are food was great so we’re dribkd only bummer was I ordered the bacon Bloody Mary and the second one did not have the bacon so that was a bummer otherwise everything was great !
I have heard good reviews of Roy’s from friends so was anxious to try it. We must have hit it on a bad night though. Although our food was good the service and noise level was awful. Very very slow!!!! We finally got our dinners but not the wine we ordered. We had to ask twice for the wine as our dinners got cold. The waiter assured me the mai tai was great but it was way too sweet and pretty bad. I was hoping he might ask me how it was but he really never asked us how anything was. Then they brought us the wrong dessert. And it was so noisy, we couldn’t even talk. We won’t be going back.
I took a friend for a birthday celebration, and had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the Filet Mignon and Lobster tail, which were both excellent. My only complaint is that the only thing offered with the meal was baby bok choy. I requested an alternative, and received roast red potatoes and asparagus. Both were perfect accompaniments and far preferable to the original choice. Originally I used to only order fish (usually salmon) at Roy’s, but I’ve found the quality of their beef dishes are superior to steakhouses like Ruth’s Chris or the rest. I highly recommend dining there for any special occasion, or just to enjoy an excellent meal. Don’t forget to order the Chocolate Soufflé when you sit down, too. Otherwise you’ll have a bit of a wait to enjoy it.
From the courteous and welcoming valet to the gracious hostess to our friendly, knowledgeable and professional server, Jacob, or experience at Roy's was stellar. The macadamia encrusted mahi-mahi was a favorite; firm, moist and flavorful. The sample platter with four of Roy's signature seafood favorites included ahi tuna, black cod, mahi-mahi; all were perfectly prepared and very flavorful. Appetizers and salads were fresh, tasty and filled with a variety of flavors. While I dine out frequently every week, I can honestly say that this was my favorite restaurant meal in 2018 given the fine quality of the food, the perfect preparation and presentation, and the exceptional attentive service provided by Jacob.
Rancho Mirage is the best Roy's. The Happy Hour is terrific.
Roy"s is one of my mainstay restaurants any where they maybe. Here in Rancho Mirage the Roy's restaurant was magnificent. I had the Ahi and my spouse had the Cobia and it was fixed to perfection. The specials that my friends had were equally great! I have not had a bad meal at Roy's ever except at the San Fran. place many years ago. We started eating at Roy's at his flag ship in Kaui and Maui and have always enjoyed our dinners. There will always be some thing unique on the menu that will peak your interest! Lastly you must have the chocolate souffle that is the best and is one of their signature desserts.
When we arrived the restaurant wasn’t extremely busy on a Sunday evening. However we waited nearly 8 minutes to be seated. After being seated we waited a longer than normal amount of time for anyone to acknowledge we were there. We were then told our waitress would be there shortly and our water was delivered. We were then told we would be having a different waiter, at that time the waiter we had the service was excellent for the rest of our dinner.
I had dinner with friends on a Sunday evening and it was the first time for all of us at this location, although we had been to te one on Kauai. The cocktails were great and the wine by the glass was too. The lobster bisque was the best I had the entire week I was in Palm Springs. We had steaks and fish and all agreed the food was fantastic. This is on our list of restaurants to go to whenever we are in town.
Always great service and food
Great food and service at Roy's. When it comes to OpenTable, don't count on getting your credit for your reservation. Still waiting for our January 27 credit!!!
Sushi was fishy, water had a very bad taste (chlorine/soap?). Overall we were disappointed with the food. Not what it used to be.
Roy's food is delicious. Known for their fish, we were encouraged to try their short ribs. They were excellent! Restaurant was busy, and got quite noisy. We were encouraged to remember for next time, to ask for a table in the back, where it is a little quieter. Our table was right up front, and every time the front door was open, a cold breeze came over all of us. Portions were a little on the small size for the price. Be prepared to spend around $110 for dinner for two (one salad and 2 entrees) (no drinks!). It is delicious, just a little expensive for a "regular" place to go.
The biggest problem was" high season " . It was packed. took all of the nice dinner out feeling away. Far too busy. Noisy, slow service, 20 minutes to get a beer and a glass of wine, then we were asked if we could please get our order in because the dinner slips were piling up.
Not pleasant overall. Food was good.
Roy Y. no longer owns the restaurant. Oh no, will it change?
Busy the day we went. Tables are close together. I always order Fish. Too much sauce on it for me. Delicious. DH had stuffed chicken. Bland and tasteless. The sushi app was yummy.
Not so happy this visit.
Good service, friendly, courteous and attentive staff. Excellent food. Karen our waitress was excellent and very friendly..she made the evening very special. Thank you Karen. We will definitely come back.
Returned for Annual Valentines weekend & this Roy’s is a favorite. Good food including specials and canoe appetizer is a winner. Service was excellent & server the best for our 3 course dinner. See you soon!
We've visited several Roy's around the country and always enjoyed the food and service. The food here was quite good but the service, particularly from the hostess was quite bad. We had secured an early reservation and had requested a quiet table. We arrived a few minutes early and the hostess sent us to the bar to wait even though we were the first seating (5:30) and there were numerous tables vacant. We had wine in the bar and after 5:30 came and went we finally asked the waitress to check on our table. They finally seated us later than our reservation and at a table that was absolutely the closest to the front door and where everyone paraded by as they were taken to their tables. Any closer to the front door and we'd have been outside! Not the quiet table we'd asked for at all! Service was slow and when we asked for bread service instead of the edamame they usually serve (and we dislike) we were told that was all they did and they made no offer of a substitute and simply didn't serve us anything. Meanwhile and throughout our meal we're looked over by every new patron as they're led to their table past us. It was a very unpleasant dining experience.
Again, we enjoyed Roy's menu & capable service. The menu selections were creative, offering
a range of taste experiences. The bacon-wrapped pork chop was cooked perfectly, both juicy & tender, and enough for a serving to take home. Overall, quite a value!
We appreciated wait staff honoring our request to be located where conversation could be easily
heard without being drowned out by others, as one of us is hearing impaired. Thanks so much!
We had a very bad experience. Arrived for our 5.00pm reservation, and it took time to be seated. Suprised as it is the first seating time available for dinner.
When we were sat, dinner table was not completely set, missing forks. Had the sharing plate for appetizer and it was OK. Some parts were luke warm like the ribs.
Waiter was inattentive. I oredered the short rib for my entree and it was dry and bland. By the time I got his attention my family had almost finished their meals. So i didnt re-order anything.
My wife had a seafood curry dish. She asked for extra sauce on the side. They brough her the lobster bisque sauce to begin with, rather than the curry sauce. The waiter argued that it was the same, when it clearly wasnt.
Manager was passing thru the tables, and we gave him feedback. He didnt seem too interested. Felt like he was just going thru the motion without really listening. I say this as he said he would discuss with the chef, but then just quickly moved onto the next table and got into a more positive discussion.
Bill came and they had not charged us for the short-rib, but there was no apology or nothing in an attempt to make up for the poor experience. Food is overpriced for what it is. There is a Roys in San Francisco that i have been to plenty of times, and in Maui, and the menu is the same. Doesnt ever seem to change with seasonal specials.
Not their best effort in the kitchen. Server was very personable. Not going to rush back.
A terribly long wait for food which came not completely what we ordered. Manager reduced bill but it was a tense and not pleasant experience. Very popular restaurant. Food is good but very pricey.
We have been to other Roy's before and were excited to come. Unfortunately, the experience was not what we expected. The food was good, but not great. Service was fine. Not worth the expense.
We have enjoyed Roy's food for years. This was our first trip to the Rancho Mirage location. Roy is known for the Hawaiian fish, but they have the best short ribs! I order them every time I eat there. I also love the Poke appetizer. The butter fish is also very good. We had great service at Roy's last week.
