First time at Roys. Had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated, even tho we had a reservation, which is unusual for a high end restaurant. Our server was good. 3 of 4 had the mahi mahi which was overcooked. One had the pork chop which was cooked exactly right and was delicious. Was busy and noisy. Wouldn't rush back. Disappointing experience overall.
Annabelle says: Can the service be "over attentive"? It seems between bites someone, the server, manager?, owner? came around asking us over and over again "Is everything to your satisfaction?" OVERKILL. Relax! Great food and ambiance.
I took my fiance Stacey to Roys for Valentine's day. Our reservation was for 8:45 pm and we were seated by 8:50 pm. Mary was our server and was so awesome beautiful smile very patient. Mary recommended the fish which was truly amazing the flavors out of this world. The restaurant was crowded and it took a while to get our food but we were in no hurry and it was worth the wait. We will definitely tell our friends about Roys and yes we will be back. Please see that Mary gets kudos without a great staff you only have great food with no one to serve it. Larry Petak
Over all great experience, a little disappointed about only having a special menu, but food was amazing.
They ran out of their published special for a 7 pm seating. Made us wait 30 minutes and then no fresh whole Maine lobster left or spare rib appetizer. This was Valentine’s Day! Needless to say it put a big damper on the evening. I signed up for reservations the day I got the email. At least a month prior.
Went for Valentine’s Day. Despite scores of tables with two people that were set for six, it took us 15 minutes to convince them to add an extra chair to our table of 4. Dinner took 3.5-4 hours. Food was of very low quality. Service was extremely rude and inattentive. We understand it was Valentine’s Day - but you can’t charge 100 usd per person for an experience that bad.
Valentines Day it was great. Will do surley again
Very attentive staff, great food, really loved the place, perfect place for a date, dinner with friends or business... free valet parking is a plus
This was a Valentines day dinner which was spoiled by the fact we ended up not having dinner... After over an hour waiting we were told it would be another hour for our food due to the fact they over booked the restaurant. So we left and went elsewhere and probably won't go back.
Like all the other Roy's we have visited, this one was exceptional. Great food, good service, and a nice atmosphere. It is expensive, but well worth the cost.
We went for Valentines Day. First we were disappointed that they had only a fixed menu but we decided to stay anyway. The wait time just to place our order was well over 20 minutes. Then we got our food before we ever got our drinks. Our appetizers were still on the table when the soup/salad course came out, so our waiter (without asking us if we would have liked the food which we would have) turned tail and took the soup & salad away. 15 minutes later it was brought back out (still hadn’t received our drinks at this point) our soup & salad was brought out and you could tell hat it had just sat on the line waiting. The salad was soggy and drenched in dressing, so much we couldn’t eat it. The soup was cold and had the standing film across the top from sitting so long on the line. Entrees arrived after another extensive wait. We order the butterfish and the surf and turf. Steak was extremely under cooked. Lobster was extremely over cooked. I couldn’t eat either portion of my entree. Butterfish wasn’t bad though. Desert was a sloppy mess. The waiter came to our table all of maybe 3 times total for the 2 hours that we were there. The entire experience felt like an over crowded cafeteria. This is such a shame. We have really enjoyed this location in the past. We understand that Valentine’s Day is extremely busy for restaurants but this particular experience painted this location in such a bad light for us we find it difficult to reason in returning.
We had a very nice Butter-fish dinner with Korean short ribs and lobster pot-stickers appetizers and finished with chocolate souffle. Also enjoyed a glass of Pinot Grigio.
The food was wonderful, we loved the quiet room, but the service was less than perfect. We requested edamame instead of bread we never received the edamame and then we asked for the Hawaiian bread and we never received it
David was an excellent server. The bisque was loaded with lobster but a little broth was thinner than I prefer. The Butter fish was delicious.
Delicious food served by a very knowledgeable, attentive staff. The meal presentation was attractive and led to a very delicious experience.
Service was extremely slow. Took ~45 minutes from the time our salad plates were cleared to the time our entrees arrived. The manager on duty was largely uninterested and unapologetic. WILL NEVER GO BACK.
The restaurant was extremely busy. We were a table of two and virtually invisible. After 30 minutes of no service we ordered drinks and asked for some bread. The server brought edamame about 15 minutes later. Our food arrived lukewarm. The manager who walks around greeting tables stopped by about 5 times. Too bad he wasn’t a server! Overpriced for the quality and poor service.
Would not go back.
Lovely and the mai tai are the best!
Love their Mai Tai's. Strong yet tasty! Wife loves the 1988 cocktail. We recommend the Canoe for Two, a delicious assortment of Hawaiian appetizers. The Caesar salad is particularly tasty with it's blue cheese dressing. The lobster bisque could have been creamier. But the chocolate soufflé was a great finish. Jacob, our waiter, was attentive but not overbearing. Love watching the sushi chefs prepare the appetizers.
The Flowers Chardonnay was a wonderful compliment to our Asian flavored meal.
All great. Server Amy was awesome.
We went there for the Monday prix fixe. Had terrific service as usual. This is a great deal and our friends had never been to a Roy's and they really enjoyed it.
Roy's advertised on e/mail a steak dinner w/free lobster tail .. so we decided to go for it. We dine at Roy's fairly often (mostly for special occasions) and find it consistently excellent. I had the filet mignon and John had the rib eye .. both were exactly as ordered, medium, and they were excellent. The lobster tail was a wonderful addition, we both enjoyed this very special treat. Look forward to returning soon.
The food and service was excellent as usual.
Wait Person (how correct is that?) David Luis not only a great waiter, friendly and non-obtrusive.
The entire staff was engaging and eager to meet our requests.
Great service and food was delicious. We didn't have a bad dish or drink. Their Aloha hour is excellent.
Always love going to Roys...even if just for Happy Hour or for a dinner. It's always great!
Roy’s has been our favorite restaurant for over 30 years starting in Hawaii. Our waiters name was Dave. He is the best of the best and if you can ask to have him as yor waiter, do it! Food is impeccable!
Roy's has truly outstanding and creative service and food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something distinctive.
Brunch menu delightful and food delicious. Dining room quiet which accommodated conversation.
Good food and service
Disappointed in value for your dollar. Limited menu for fish and seafood.
Fabulous experience. Service was exceptional and food was wonderful. Butterfish was smooth and silky. The chocolate lava cake dessert was delightful. Would certainly go there again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.
The restaurant chain specializes in seafood. It was disappointing to have really overdone mahi-mahi, even after requesting it be served "rare-to-medium-rare" when ordering. The wait staff appeared to be entirely in the late-adolescent to early college age, and the lack of experience showed. Finally, the prices for appetizers and entrees were exorbitant for the quality.
Had a great evening and the Haleakala Roll was great.
We had never been to this Roy’s. Everything was perfect! From the time we got out of the car until the time we got back in, we could not have asked for a better experience! The valet was great. The bartender was great and even had cucumber for my drink! The server was at the table when we needed him and we can’t say enough about Randy, the manager! Great job to all of you and we will be back!
we enjoy Roy's as often as we are able. decided this time around to concentrate on their many wonderful appetizers and make a meal out of them. We started with lobster potstickers, then the wonderful chinese spare ribs, and finished the meal off with a maui wowie salad. the salad was a tad dry .. could have used a bit more dressing, but we didn't bother to make an issue out of it. enjoyed Roy's wonderful pineapple upside cake for dessert, always a treat. As always we look forward to returning.
The food was delicious and prepared in a thoughtful way. Service was great. Pricing was on the high side but we decided the well prepared food was worth it.
Roy's has come to be one of our favorite go to spots for some quiet time together. We like to arrive between 5:00 and 6:30. The bar can be loud, but once you are in the dining room, conversation is easy and the room seems quiet.
I am a fan o the combo boat appetizer. It is perfect for two. Their wedge salad is really a great choice. Seafood and Beef are great. We always enjoy their list of desserts.
Great food, nice environment and attentive staff, all add up to a great time.
