It was a birthday celebration and the staff at Roy’s had the table prepared with a card and plumeria flowers. Dessert was served with a candle and Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. Such a nice surprise!
Roy’s is always good and very predictable. They have excellent seafood and you can feel welcome in all casual and dress attire.
Good food and good service. Why the negative overall review?? You spend 140 dollars for dinner and go home hungry. That’s why. We are not huge eaters btw. Even an average size portion would suffice. These portions were just laughable. It was Saturday night at 7pm and there was plenty of room for other guests. My guess is because others have figured out this is not the place to go if your hungry. The staff was very nice and again, award winning food, but even the nicer steakhouses in dallas offer bigger portions for less money. Let me also point out that my plate was a seafood plate. Not USDA prime beef or anything. But it was on the higher end of the pricing on the menu and I expected to get full especially after ordering appetizers. If you want to spend a bunch of money to try some unique seafood dishes and go home hungry, go to Roy’s. If you want to eat well, go just about anywhere else in dallas with a 31-50 plate meal and you will be happier. In my opinion this place would be much more successful, and I would give it higher ratings, if it were a 15-20 per plate restaurant. They would have a higher volume of customers and I’m sure make up for the lower pricing with the volume. First time patrons who expect a good meal for the steakhouse going rate will always be disappointed and with the amount of options in dallas for fine dining at that price it makes no sense to come back here ever again.
My wife and I sat on the patio on a Saturday night [granted it was early (5:45pm)], but we were the only ones out there enjoying each other’s company. We took advantage of Roy’s Happy Hour (until 7:00pm) and had as our Happy Hour Bites the fall-off-the-bone short ribs and lobster potstickers! We then split a Wagyu burger with Parmesan fries. Yummy! Our favorite dish at Roy’s is the Miso Butterfish! Roy’s also offers fabulous dining discounts ($25 dollars off your tab), so for the quality of the food at that price, Roy’s is a fantastic value!!
Usually love Roy’s but this year they left us wanting for my sister’s birthday. First, the waiter told us we “ate too fast” even though he is a slow server. Then, they didn’t bother to put a candle on either of the two desserts we purchased. We will plan differently next year 😐
Everything was perfect!!!!
Great place to celebrate special occasion. Everything was wonderful.
Don’t assume your open table reservation means anything at Roy’s. We waited over 1 hour past our reservation as others arrived and got seated. They continue to show immediate availability on Open Table even as they have a lobby full of people and 60 minute waits. Noise is loud, service is slow, food is great. Too many other great choices to put up with this. You have to respect restaurants that stop taking reservations and avoid frustrating their customer. Roy’s hasn’t learned that yet.
We have been going to Roy's for a long time and love the food. Our only complaint is with the time it has taken to get our table. We went there with our older boy about 3 months ago and had a 745 pm reservation, and did not get seated until 845 pm. This past Saturday, we had a 715 pm reservation and got seated at 805 pm. Lots of others waiting along with us with the same issues. If they are under staffed (I say this cause we say a couple empty tables during our wait), they shouldn't accept reservations. Second time in a row (It never happened previously), quite frustrating.
We had a 7:15 reservation. We were seated at 7:55. We watched people who checked in after us get seated before us. When we pointed this out to the hostess we were told we made that up. Seems like new management and new front of house is needed.
The evening started off with rather slow service. Water and then a 25 minute wait. Finally caught the manager’s eye and from then on service picked up. Waiter was a bit too chatty. Ordered a bottle of wine and then 15 min later the server reported that they were out. Offered us another bottle at the same price. When the food arrived we were pleased with our selections. Butterfish “cod” and seared scallops. Both were well prepared and delicious. So all in all an uneven experience.
Very loud. Tables placed too close together. No ambiance to speak of.
It was great and the food and service was great
We are fairly regular customers and we were glad to take advantage of $25 email coupon. Food and service is normally very good but this time a wonderfully flavored steak came out just slightly warm and my swordfish was almost cool. Server claimed the fish was supposed to be served that way because it had a cold salad with it. No excuses were offered for the steak my date had. She is particular about her food temp so I tasted it and called manager cause I wouldn't have eaten it either. He had both our dinners rewarmed to our satisfaction. Server seemed all-around defensive. Her service with cocktails was slow--she blamed bartender for drinks and cook for food
As a frequent visitor to Roy's I have to say I was very disappointed in the fixed menu offered for Valentines. As a person in the bar and restaurant business I understand why restaurants attempt to fix their costs on special event days such as Valentines Day, but i felt like this was a pure money grab. The pricing was not in relation to what was offered as is normally the case. I expect and demand that Roy's do better and be better. Here is a hint, as you all are so proficient in preparing scallops you should always offer them no matter what the occasion.
As I said earlier I have frequented Roy's in the past and am usually pleased but this was severely lacking in the usual positive experience.
45 minutes late seating for my reservation. 20 minute wait at bar to get a drink while waiting. Poor service, will not be returning.
Had to wait an hour to be seated and we had a reservation. Very loud - could hear shouting from order bar by someone who was kitchen manager I guess. Food delicious as usual. Service was wonderful considering how busy they were.
Didn’t get seated until 45 mins after reservation time
Don’t go on Valentine’s Day. Had reservations at 7pm and wasn’t seated for 50 minutes. It was next to impossible to get a bartender to serve you during the wait. Butterfish and steak food entrees, lobster tempura appetizer and key lime dessert were delicious. Salad was lacking - very little dressing and mediocre salad leaves.
Above average restaurant but an absolute zoo on Valentines night! Fish and seafood are always well prepared. Spare rib appetizers are a must. Beef dishes may disappoint.
Did not know Valentine's menu was prix fixe and no sushi. Lobster was undercooked.
Valentine’s dinner was perfect. But it’s Roy’s, what do you expect!!
Had a great time. Food was fantastic. Service from Paul and Melissa was impeccable. Loved the ambience. Will go there again.
The bar and restaurant were very inviting and the service was excellent. Food and drinks were very good and the server was able to recommend both to us for a delicious date night. Recommend the Lobster dumplings and the Poke with avocado!
Service and food were exceptional once again. Roy’s has become our “go to” dining out place when we don’t want any non-welcomed surprises or hassles. Impeccable experience!!!
Absolutely the best Sea Bass I have ever had and that includes from specialty fish houses both in the Dallas area and around the East Coast. Our server Carey was exceptional too with a solid knowledge of the menu and even the consistency of each fish. This is a definite keeper and we will return there again.
Outstanding food and service. My wife had the Mahi Mahi which she has nvever liked and absolutely loved it. The poke appetizer was a great start to the meal. The wine selection is very good and pairs well with the fish selections. Great spot for an anniversary meal.
Awesome place. Recommend the charred lemon sour and the pineapple upside down cake. My me and my wife’s favorite place for drinks and a dessert. The food is amazing also, I recommend the ahi tuna.
Food was great. Would have like a bit more of it. Service was great as well.
Nice atmosphere. Great food. Food portions are a bit small. Wine portions are only 4-5 ozs and prices do not reflect this small pour. Restaurant is too cold most of the time.
The food was first rate, though I'm not a fan of the spicy kim chee. Disappointed there wasn't a non-flavored iced tea option. I didnt realize the menu would have so few traditional brunch options. What we ate was tasty, but not really what we wanted.
Wonderful experience! Love Roy’s!
This is a wonderful restaurant that features super-fresh seafood, and has other options like filet and braised ribs for those who aren't seafood fans. The service is impeccable. The staff is professional and at the same time makes us feel at home. The food presentation is outstanding but the taste is even better. Recent selections included the steak and lobster as well as the Ahi tuna as entrees. Both prepared as requested and delicious. The grilled Caesar salad is always great and a dessert of the bread pudding is not to be missed.
This special restaurant that should go onto your list of "must-tries" if you are in the DFW area. Located in the Plano area, it is fairly easy to reach from all directions. Reservations are recommended but not necessary. Their bar menu is always a good bet for a lighter meal. Sushi is terrific!
If you are looking for food out of the ordinary, please try Roy's of Plano.
Had a great Birthday celebration. As always the food was yummy and the fish was fresh.
I've eaten at Roys in Tampa, Chicago and Maui. The service was very good at all three. Roys Plano just didn't have it. Frazzled hostess, no feel good comments, unbussed tables showing how shorthanded they were. The food was good so I cant be too hard on the restaurant but the service needed some help.
Food was too sweet. Seafood was not fresh. Overpriced.
The food is good but not great, the prices are high for good food. Dined there because had a gift card, would not usually choose this restaurant.
My wife and I have eaten ther several times and the last three time the Steak was not good I( let the manager know all three times. I wont be going back.
Service was excellent on this visit! Our waitress was very welcoming, personable, and efficient.
