Roy's Plano Ratings and Reviews
This is a delightful restaurant with outstanding food and service. My husband always gets the Poke as an appetizer. He has eaten Poke all over the country and Roy's serves the best. Our entrees on this occasion were scallops and steak/lobster. Both dishes were beautifully presented, and both were delicious. And of course we had the macadamia nut white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. The flavors of this dish are so delicious.
We highly recommend Roy's of Plano for any occasion. We dine here often and always enjoy it.
Had a rough day, Bill the manager on duty, who had 60 plus guests to take off was exceptional as was the bar staff Lauren and Rachel. They were awesome. The bar bites were great as usual and the timing was perfect even though they were working a party of sixty
We went for my best friend’s birthday and it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had. We had a reservation and our table was set up and ready when we got there - and we got there 15 minutes ahead of time. The table was decorated with flower petals and a personalized card for my friend. IMPRESSIVE! Tressa was our server and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable of the menu, very attentive and she made great recommendations. Roy’s has officially become our brunch and birthday celebration restaurant. Thanks for such great service!
Love this place for their Happy "Aloha" Hour. You cant get a better drink and more tasty bites for the dollar! The Mai Tai is one of the best in the city, and the bar menu is legit! I highly suggest this place for a Happy "Aloha" Hour. Dinner is also amazing here....it is perfect for people to get caught up and enjoy one anothers company.
Had dined at different Roys over the years when hosting company events but never really saw the prices....the food is okay, and we enjoyed a calamari app and my wife REALLY enjoyed her cod, but unless you’re using a special discount menu I find it difficult to justify their prices. These aren’t $40 entrees. Hello Trader Vic’s, this is deja Vu all over again........
I used to love Roy’s but I hadn’t gone for 4 years since I had moved away from Dallas. I am so disappointed by what it has become. The food was poorly cooked and presented, the shrimp appeared rubbery and tasted even worse. I thought the chocolate soufflé used to love would make it better, and instead even it was very poorly prepared, cold and hard on the inside. The service was VERY slow and the atmosphere was sad, with only 10 or 12 tables full on a Saturday night between 7 and 10. I guess the rest of the people had already gotten the message and stayed away. I hope Roy’s management can turn this ship around because it’s sinking fast. With all the new options available in Plano, I don’t think this kind of poor quality can survive long.
Birthday dinner. Very nice service and a card and complementary birthday cake. Food was excellent. However butterfish is not the same dish served in Roy’s restaurants in Hawaii. It had a strange tomato sauce on it and not true butterfish. Still would go back, but would not order butterfish.
Last post was charged ala carte for a prix fixe and I stated management would make it right. Well they did, all I can say is - customer service at Roy's blows my socks off! Tonight's dinner was their LTO (which is a steal BTW) was excellently prepared and the presentation was awesome. This is the third time we have have had their Steak and Lobster LTO and we have not been disappointed. Kudos to the kitchen, serving, bar and management staff. You cannot go wrong with Roy's fine dinning.
We ordered from the prix fixe menu, but were charged ala carte. That changed the price a bit. My bad for not noticing when I paid the bill, saw it this morning when entering the spend into quicken. I a sure this can be resolved when I go back. The management is awesome and customer satisfaction is their number one goal. The food was excellent and the dining experience was fantastic.
We came in because it is our "anniversary month" and the email we received with a very special limited time offer. Perhaps the end of the week and being Friday the 13th helped a bit :) - started off with an Ebi Roll that was so good, we followed it up with a second round. The LTO was steak and a free lobster tail. We had a choice of steaks - filet or a rib eye. We decided to go with the filet - it was cooked to perfection and the sauce, which i think was a port wine reduction was to die for. The bar tender picked a most excellent wine to pair with the filet. The lobster tail was also cooked to perfection and the wine that I really like - Whitehaven was very good with the lobster. I have to say we really enjoyed the LTO and will definitely come back before the promotion ends.
It was a most wonderful experience when we entered the restaurant - the welcoming aloha and smiles from Gracie and Misty were captivating. A truly sincere Aloha!
We met a new bartender Ruben that was introduced to us by Lauren and Jamey. I found out he was a 2 tour veteran and was very pleased that Roy's hired him! We need more businesses embracing our returning warriors - my mantra is freedom is not free - and I can say that because I am a vet myself.
It is nice to be among folks who make you feel welcome and none are better than the management staff here at Roy's - Jamey, Bill, John and Stephanie.
I can also attest that there is no finer bar staff as well - with Lauren being a most excellent sommelier, so if you want to pair a wine with your meal - just ask her, you cannot go wrong!
We came in for the fabulous aloha hour appetizers to nosh on and to relax - the kalua pork sliders with the parmesan french fries were very tasty, no ordinary fries here! Followed up with lump crab fried rice and rock shrimp tempura, which was most excelently prepared. Then to finish it all off we made a slight change to Roy's famous melting pot chocolate soufflé by adding Godiva chocolate liqueur. Although it was very tasty we felt that the adding of just the liqueur was a bit runny - since the liqueur was not reduced. We plan on working with the pastry chef to see what can be done - I am sure there is a way to make it great - just by experimenting.
Misty made our entrance into the restaurant so very welcoming - the aloha with the bright smile. We were introduce to the new bartender Rachel, by Lauren. Rachel was very personable and helpful and we noticed how Lauren was spending the time to teach Rachel the ropes.
We have been to Roy's multiple times in the past, and each of the past times has been great. This was the exception, the service was ok but the worst part was the food was sub-par especially for the price. We had to send the filet back as it had no taste then it came back burned on the outside and raw inside. For the first time at Roy's I asked for salt and pepper as none of the food really had any flavor. Just an upsetting experience overall.
Years ago I enjoyed dining at the Roy's in Carmel, and looked forward to trying the Plano location. We found the atmosphere loud - more like a lower end chain. The room was so cold that we would have left if we had not been committed to the dinner. We were seated around an hour before we got our wine with food following that. The appetizer was the only interesting item served with the remainder merely acceptable or less. Really a disappointing evening all around. In fairness, the manager did reach out to apologize.
Well I guess I should be wary of any restaurant that needs to put specials out to get customers to visit their establishment. But decided to give it a go since there was a special advertised. We decided to sit in the lounge to also have some "Aloha specials." The sushi was not as advertised and the shrimp was so over-fried. Chicken egg rolls came with the special and were ok. My husband had a filet mignon which came smothered in some salty sauce. I had the Mahi Mahi. The food was just ok. We will not be back --- particularly since the restaurant had a "computer error" that magically overcharged us by about $20. When we questioned our server he told us it was correct. I asked him to look at the math. He had to check with his supervisor and then said - "Oops. There's a computer error." I wonder how many others they simply overcharge. This is theft, criminal. We will not be back.
Have dined here before, but this experience was way below par. First, Roy's will not accept our Points Reward Certificate from dining with OpenTable. They give points but won't accept rewards. Hostess said there are no gluten-free options, but then the menu listed some. Needs training. With several good tables open, she seated us in the entry for wait staff. Traffic was heavy and even ran into my wife's chair twice. Noise level near the kitchen was so loud that I had to move next to my wife in order to hear our conversation. Took 55 minutes after seating to receive our entrees. Short ribs should have been fork tender, but had to request a steak knife to cut this overdone, dry meat resembling a poor cut of pot roast. Also, broccoli rabe were underdone and had to be cut with a steak knife, but some bites were not chewable. The wine pours by the glass did not measure even to 1/3 of the glass. Pretty skimpy for the prices. Waiter was ok, but forgot one of our side dishes, then returned with it after our reminder. Really? $9 for some sautéed mushrooms? Guess we are going to say "Aloha" (goodbye, not hello) to Roy's after all these years visiting in Plano and Hawaii. Sorry.
Our sushi order was so delayed they brought us first some edamame then when more time passed they brought tempera vegetables. Which was nice to acknowledge the wait but would have been nicer to get the food we ordered. Claimed the bar put a strain on the sushi chef. Then they should have another person to pitch in and help during busy times.
Normally a great place, but tonight was NOT good. My daughter, her husband and I took my wife here for her Birthday and it was Very Disappointing. What was supposed to be a great celebration ended up being a downer. Food was Ok, it took FOREVER to get entrees, manager came by and offered to buy dessert (on my wife's Birthday) and she is a big fan of the Bread pudding and it was like eating toast. It was dried out, No Flavor - not Moist at all like EVERY other bread pudding we've ever had. We spent a LOT on a good wine and the Vintage they brought out was newer than what they showed on Published Wine list, they did NOT decant it. When Food finally arrived, it was barely room temperature and just not as good as normal. It was a terrible night for Roy's and I may NOT be back. Very disappointed that we picked this for my wife's special night.
Overall good experience. I did have a piece of salmon on my main course that was very raw. The staff was quick to address the issue and cooked me a new piece of salmon to take home. This piece was cooked perfectly. Surprised to see such a sloppy job with cooking but happy with their response. In the past no issues.
