The food was absolutely awesome. Both my mahi-mahi and my wife’s Chilean sea bass were prepared to perfection. I don’t think I’ve had a piece of fish this great in years. Seasoning was perfect. The cocktails were amazing and great. The ahi poki appetizer was so fresh and clean I wanted some more - I had the spare ribs as well and they were delish!
Pineapple upside down cake and molten chocolate cakes were fantastic - as was the Hawaiian bread pudding (our adult children joined us for desert and drinks)
Service was outstanding and very attentive but not overdone or stuffy. Waiter was fun and had a great personality
Only problem I have was receiving a note that this location is closing March 23, 2020. So glad we made it. I realize DFW is a hyper competitive fine dining market, but maybe a different location in the metroplex would draw more patrons? I’ll be sad seeing this Roy’s closing. It’s always been a go-to favorite.
We stopped in to celebrate our last dinner here before the final meal service. It was lovely to see old friends and get a chance to say thank you for years of laughter. Christian single handedly ran a busy bar and dining room like the boss he is. Maholo!
Excellent experience! Celebrated my 5th-year Anniversey and it was wonderful.
The place to go if you want your fish cooked correctly. Great cocktails!
We love Roys . I noted that it was our anniversary and we were greeted with a glass of champagne when we were seated and a lovely card to celebrate the occasion . Our table was decorated with orchids! The lobster potstickers were delicious and we had the seasonal chilean sea bass entree which was amazing . Fresh and delicious with asparagus and tomatoes and a parmesan bacon crust and caper lime sauce. Dessert was also complimentary for the occasion. The molten chocolate souffle is always a hit.
The restaurant remembers our preferences and even suggested ordering an “old” recipe for the poke! Which we had indicated previously that we preferred . Our waiter was attentive and friendly and just delightful. Thank you Roys for another lovely evening
Great experience of course as always!
We enjoyed our experience at Roy's. Ernest, our server, was a treasure. The food was excellent. The only thing that took away from our experience was the noise level. We were having our Valentine's Day and the noise is such that I would not choose Roy's for an intimate, romantic meal.
Always a must when my niece comes to town. Butterfish is so delectable. And of course the main tai is the BEST around. Cannot forget the delicious chocolate souffle. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Love this restaurant!!!
Roy's always lives up to our expectations. Food and service are amongst the best in DFW.
Our party of five visited Roy's on a Sunday evening to celebrate two birthdays in our group. Our cocktails, particularly the Mai Tai and Hawaiian Martini, were outstanding. We enjoyed the sea bass featured special, the hibachi grilled salmon, the shellfish sampler, and the herb grilled vegetable napoleon. The vegetarian in our group was delighted to find such a great option! We ended the evening with the hot chocolate souffle (a must) and the lime tart. Our service was exceptional! Roy's is consistently high-quality and a favorite of ours over many years.
Lobster potstickers are the bomb!
We will be going back to Roy's! It's a nice touch of Hawaii in Dallas~
Food was really expensive for the quality it was. It wasn’t bad food but a bit over priced. Our server didn’t know any of the liquors they had and when we asked what tequila he just said “not much.” The drinks were good if you like sugary cocktails.
We had a sushi appetizer that was wonderful. Then we both ordered the black cod (butterfish) and it was amazing, as always. We've come back to Roy's many times, in many locations, and it never disappoints. We usually order (and thoroughly enjoy) the chocolate soufflé, but we were just too full this time for dessert. Probably we'll order it again next time tho. The wait staff was excellent - very friendly, helpful, and kind.
Service and food weren't what we were used to. It took 20+ minutes just get our edamame after we sat down - it came after our appetizers arrived and it was overdone. The mahi mahi was also overdone and dry. We ordered the chocolate souffle when we ordered our food and we still waited almost 20 minutes after we were finished for the dessert to arrive (they tell you "order it now since it takes 20 minutes".) Waitress kept blaming issues on someone else. Then the bill came and the prices were incorrect! We used to love this restaurant.
I first visited Roy's in Maui so was pleasantly surprised there was a site in the Dallas area. Not to disappoint, the food there remains very yummy! We had the Chilean Sea Bass special that evening and it was truly excellent! On a Sunday night, there was a decent crowd but not too noisy that 2 people sitting at a table couldn't talk. Our server had many tables and he did a great job of attending to our every need. I would truly recommend to those who like fresh seafood!
Great food and not very loud
Two words. Butter fish enough said.
To walk out with $190 for two with only a couple drinks is a bit much. The server was very slow. My water glass was empty a couple times. I had to ask about the dessert at the end. I waited ~15 minutes to get a 2nd drink. The Singapore buns and shrimp/scallop noodle meal for me was amazing - however, the tuna tower (can't remember the name) for an app was so lack luster (way too much avacado) and my wife's macadamia encrusted halibut was just ehh.... I probably won't be coming back here because I can't justify spending nearly $200 bucks on a dinner when there are sooo many other places that have much more value for what you get. Unfortunate as it was a date night for my wife and I which is so far and few in between.
Always a great meal. I had an awesome Trio of Filet, Lobster tail, and a Crab Cake. My wife and I love this place! The wait staff is always professional. The food is always top notch. I also met Roy Yamaguchi before too.
Are you tired of the same old thing for dinner? Give Roy’s a try!!!
Valentine’s Day, great service and food.
Food was great, but pricey. For two people with a bottle of wine it was $200+
Had a reservation for 8:00 but didn't get a table until 8;30 completely unacceptable.
Valentines day: Busy of course, reservations running about 20 minutes behind. Bar/bar tables available to wait. No table service and the bartenders were extremely busy so wasn’t able to get a drink while we waited. After we got our table everything was fine, on time and well done. Food was phenomenal.
Great place for special occasion or date night! A little bit of a wait, even with a reservation, but to be expected on Valentine’s Day. Nice, all inclusive, menu selections.
Quality of food has decreased significantly over past few years. It used to be one of our favorite places. Doubt we will go there anymore.
It was interesting to hear fellow dinners making same comments to each other.
We love Roy's and eat there at least once a month. Our first time to eat at a Roy's was in Hawai. Now it is 5 minutes from our home in Plano, Texas.
Best Chilean sea bass I've ever had. Everything was excellent.
Valentine’s Day dinner.
We go to Roy's for many special occasions, but I was disappointed in my meal on Valentine's Day. I got the surf & turf & surf for $99, and I found my lobster tail was cold and my crab cake was on the burnt side. I was hungry and did not want to send it back to the kitchen and wait for another one. I have eaten both those items at this restaurant before and have enjoyed them before, but not so much on this day. I realize V Day is very busy for the restaurant, but when you are paying so much for a dinner, I still expect top notch quality and service.
Maybe it was Valentine's Day. There is only one choice to order a four course dinner. However, it's way too much for two of us to get two four-courses dinner. And the dinner is kind of over price because it's four-courses. Overall, the food is okay, service is good. We might try again and see if there is any difference in the future.
Passed by often and finally stopped for a pre-Valentine’s Day dinner. Had a good menu and the service was excellent. Portions were sensible but pricey. Would definitely go back.
We arrived for our reservation 40 mins early. We had a large party we were expecting and wanted to have a drink in the bar first. We informed the hostess we had 2 additional people joining us. She was curt with us, said it would be a minute -they would need to reset the table. We weren’t asking to be seated just letting them know we had arrived. This is not the first time I’ve experienced this hostess being almost annoyed with us letting her know we’ve arrived.
We had 1 server for a 15 top. She couldn’t keep up with drink orders. Some people were never asked if they wanted a drink. The food came out at a decent pace. The appetizers were hot, fresh and came out quickly. As an entree I had the Butterfish, it was fishy tasting and had more sauce than I’d experienced in past. I didn’t really enjoy it but didn’t want to make a fuss with that large of a party. My wine came after I finished my meal (I ordered it between appt and entree).
Getting our checks took 1 HOUR!! We asked for a few splits (5 checks for 15 people). This could of easily been handled while we had dessert. We were ready to leave about 8:30 and didn’t depart till 9:45! It was not acceptable, we had plans after dinner that were delayed. I was apologizing to guests for the hold up. Not the best experience, honestly I was a bit embarrassed.
We had a fabulous experience! The staff was extremely attentive. We actually had a two-year-old with us and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. The food was terrific. Overall a wonderful experience. The chocolate cake dessert was exceptional. And I can’t wait to go back to order the tuna again.
Great service and good food. We will definitely come back again!
Great food, great service. Love this place. Must try.
I had the sea bass special and it was spectacular! It was every bit as delicious as the picture made it look. I'll return before the end of March when it goes away. My husband had the seafood sampler and it was mediocre. The one scallop was very tasty, but the lobster tail and shrimp were average, especially for the $49 price. The mashed potatoes were tasteless and needed seasoning. The lobster pot stickers were also quite tasty as an appetizer.
