From the minute we show up, the staff and manager treated us like royalty. Everything we had from the menu was delicious. Thank you so much for making our 7 yr. Anniversary special.
Excellent dinner, service and cocktails.
Went to Roy's on Friday with reservations. Ordered the special priced surf and turf and the taste of the Philippines. The filet mignon was tough and the gravy was salty. The appetizer for the pre fix meal had mostly fat. The sauces were too heavy. This place is a hit and miss restaurant so you need to eat only the food that is consistently good. If you pick the wrong food, it is very expensive.
This experience was not the best. Normally I love the vibes here and food is great. This night was off. The waiter said things were not available anymore after I was there for a business meal a week earlier and ordered similar things. Then he doubled back after I altered my order and said his apologies, he didn’t notice that was on the menu. The rice I had was supposed to be ginger rice and was tasty but there was little to no ginger so I had to order extra. Also my mashed potatoes were not warm. The plate was hot so I can see how it could have been heated, but I had someone touch it from the establishment and they even said they were cold after warming them twice so they comped the mashed potatoes. This just was not a good visit
always great food, they do make it special.
They used to personalize the menu and take your picture, but that seems to be a thing Of the past.
Pricey but the food is spectacular, especially the seafood. Highly recommend the Butterfish, their signature dish. Also, if you like a wedge salad, I think they have the best in the city. Service is always great. Be sure and join the Ohana Club for special deals.
We had a group of 14 celebrating a birthday. We had super service and delicious food for everyone. Those who had salmon, mahi-mahi, and short ribs loved the preparation and thought everything was perfect with their meals. A few others had salads, and 1had the teriyaki tofu, all good and well received. Lots of appetizers were enjoyed, as well as soufflé and pineapple upside down cakes for dessert! Good stuff all around!
Wonderful experience at Roy's Pasadena. I took my family there to celebrate my wife's birthday and while there was an initial miscommunication between the front desk and the waitstaff, the manager, and our waitress, went above our expectations to make sure that we were satisfied. Will definitely return!
Nice food presentation. Service is quick and superb.
The food was delicious. Service was excellent and we did not wait for a long time for our food. Great experience overall.
Good food. Attentive service. Somewhat pricey for large chain quality pre prepared food....but overall a pleasant experience.
If you’re looking for upscale chain restaurant seafood with attentive service and a pleasant atmosphere, Roy’s is definitely a step above Red Lobster...but not up to the level of truly fresh, local chef prepared cuisine.
service was slow but friendly. We could always count on the butter fish to be delicious but not this time.
I went to Roy’s with my husband . He ordered New York steak and I had ribeye- recommended by our waitress. When they bought the food, my ribeye steak was served on dark clay plate-very bad presentation I could hardly tell what kind of food was on it . And both our steaks were badly burnt outside and rare inside. The ribeye had lots of fat and tendon. I talked to our waitress she said they could cook another ribeye but when they bought back the steak it was same piece of meat. I am so disappointed with their chef and service. I will not go back again.
We've been to Roy's Pasadena many times. The food and service are always great.
Received excellent service and the food was outstanding. three of the guest were there for the first time and enjoyed the service and food.
Very good food.
Roy’s never disappoints. The food was excellent, the ambiance was celebratory, and the service personal and attentive. We were celebrating a birthday, snd Roy’s was the perfect choice.
Not only is the food amazing, but our favorite waitress, Emily, is fantastic . This is our go to restaurant when we visit Pasadena for a performance at the Pasadena Playhouse. I would highly recommend
If you want the best menu, go after 4pm
The dinner itself was good, and the hostess and our waitress (I apologize as I've forgotten their names) were both wonderful. However the rest of the server/busboy service was quite bad (almost rude). The restaurant was very crowded, so the tables were positioned very close together. Several times throughout the night, servers/busboys were busy clearing or serving the table next to us. I pulled my chair in as close as I could get to my table, they they continually bumped into my chair and several times, even knocked into my shoulder pushing me into my table - once even causing me to spill water. Not once did anyone apologize or even stop to acknowledge that they had bumped me. Additionally, as they cleared our table of dishes or refilled water glasses, everyone at our table paused to thank them. Not one of them acknowledged us or even looked up. It really felt like they hated their job. So sad, as Roy's used to have impeccably great service.
We arrived for our wedding anniversary, greeted right away and took 5 min to be seated with prior reservation. Our table was the first table at the right corner from the main entrance, next to the waiter's cash table, many incoming guests were sitting right in front of us waiting to be seated, noisy, not the best atmosphere to be romantic for an anniversary. We had bread crumbs all over our seat and had to dust it off ourselves. The waiter saw this and apologized. The food was mediocre and overpriced for this restaurant, definitely not the "high-end" restaurant one would expect. We've been to Roy's in the past but this experience was very disappointing. Probably would not come again, much better restaurants elsewhere with better value, better food and better atmosphere.
Really tasty food. Excellent service. A bit pricy though.
Took my girlfriend for her birthday. Her NY Strip was cooked to perfection but the mushroom sauce needed some work on flavor. I got the classic 4 plate of fish. 3 were very good but the salmon was a bit overcooked
It was a really delicious dinner and a great place to celebrate a birthday! I really recommend the Roy's Trio if you're craving fish but can't decide what to order. The salmon was phenomenal. Desserts were delicious as per usual. We ordered the Pineapple Upside Down cake and Chocolate Lava cakes(they both take 20 minutes so keep that in mind) and they were so worth it.
Food was amazing. Service was a bit rushed but overall good experience.
I had an amazing business meeting and meal at this establishment. Service was pretty darn good also.
We have dined at Roy's (Pasadena location) 4-5 times and have always enjoyed an exceptional meal. This time we visited on a "Mahalo Monday" to take advantage of their special pricing. This is a terrific value as we were able to order an appetizer, entree and dessert for $44.95. We had the filet mignon & lobster and "Classic Four" (small piece of salmon, butterfish, ahi and mahi mahi). Everything was cooked perfectly. Chef and managing partner changed recently but same great food and service.
My friend took me for my birthday. It was lovely—great service, nice bday card and small but rich and delicious chocolate dessert! Our fish was tasty and beautifully presented, but I subtracted 1 star because it was not hot. I don’t want overcooked fish but it should not be almost cold.
Roy's is always a special treat for us because unfortunately it is quite expensive for the portions you get honestly. It's not a restaurant we frequent for that reason. Especially when you've got a large group, you can easily spend $500 as opposed to another restaurant where you can spend half that and get much more food.
Dinner is always great and tasty
We’ve been visiting Roy’s since 2003 in Hawaii! The food is always consistently delicious, however, the special Chilean Sea Bass was spectacular! Roy’s is always our go to place for seafood.
Service is always great with friendly servers and hostesses.
Good place for special occasions. The steak we had were undercooked and were very chewy for a steak for medium rare.
Flew in from east coast to host a small family dinner (6 ppl) and found service attentive, prices acceptable and food for the most part very good. We had one entre that was totally unacceptable, the so-called filet mignon that was an inferior cut of beef or as is often referred to in the trade as a tailing. This was politely pointed out to the server without any reaction or action by management. A highly unusual way for a moderately upscale eatery to react. I paid my bill (>$500) and vowed never to return as there are many “finer” dining establishments in the LA area. BTW, the venue was selected by a family member from
Pasadena as she knew I enjoy Dining at Roy’s when in HI.
We used a Travelzoo discount which was a gift to celebrate our anniversary , and also chose a Wednesday evening to dine to take advantage of their Wednesday half off wine bottle special. Great deal! We had a nice booth table (as requested) and a personalized Anniversary card from Roy’s with orchids was on the table - nice touch! Of course we ordered a bottle of wine to accompany our meal. Our food was outstanding...!! We had Tempura Shrimp appetizer, Maui Wowie Salad, Sirloin Strip steak with Lobster Mac & Cheese, and their Braised Short Ribs — all super delicious! We enjoyed their two specialty desserts: pineapple upside down cake with coconut ice cream, and the molten chocolate cake. Both desserts are a must try...cannot honestly tell you which one was best!!
Now for the downside of our dining experience—-our server! She was really lacking in personality, and appeared new not knowing the answers to some basic questions about the menu choices. Throughout the evening she seemed to vanish for long periods of time and did not check on us very often. For example, after ordering our bottle of wine, we literally had to flag her down 20 minutes later to inquire about it. Extremely slow service even though restaurant wasn’t crowded and our server only had 3 other tables. Even though we had pre-ordered our desserts when entree order was taken, there was still a 30 minute lag before it was brought after dinner plates cleared. She never asked us if we wanted coffee or anything else. We had to ask another waiter to find get her to bring our bill as she seemed to have disappeared again or taken a long break.
In short, Pasadena Roy’s needs to hire servers that are more experienced, attentive, and someone who can exhibit some personality to add to the dining experience.
Roy”s in Pasadena used to be one of my favorite spots pre theater at Pasadena Playhouse. This time not at all. Good quality terrible. Fish cold. And soufflé tastes like it was from the day before. Roy’s need to rethink their strategy to stay fresh and innovative.
Flavorless sea bass $49 was not value priced
Maui salad was wilted
We enjoyed Roy’s. Our waitress seemed busy and did not fill our water. She disappeared several times but the food was good.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with friends whose first time it was at Roy's. They loved it and you made us feel very special for our celebration. Thank you
Roy's never disappoints, the food was great and the service was excellent.
We celebrated our anniversary at Roy's (tradition of ours for the past 5 years) and we always have a great time. Debbie the manager was wonderful and we were saddened that she is transferred to the Anaheim's Roy's. She will be missed as she has done a great job in managing and making Pasadena's Roy's so vibrant. Our server, Emily, was delightful and genuine. We like authenticity, it makes going to a place that much special for a wonderful celebration.
