Roy's Jacksonville Beach Ratings and Reviews
I was in town and took my son there for a dinner with Dad. He commented that the last time he had good food at a nice place was when I was last in town about 2 months prior. That says 2 things.. he thinks Roy’s is a very nice place and Dad has good tastes in dining.
I think our waitress was Rosa.
Normally, I love Roy's, however, our last experience was dreadful. I ordered the shellfish sampler which was supposed to come with lobster, shrimp and scallops. There were no scallops so when we were able to finally flag our waiter down, we let him know. I was finished eating when the scallops finally arrived. Then we ordered a dessert, it took 35 minutes for our pineapple upside down cake to arrive. The waiter apologized and said it was his fault he should have told us at the beginning of our dinner, he did warn us the molten cake would take 20 minutes but never mentioned any other dessert. I don't understand why a cake would take that long, typically they don't make a cake to order, it is prebaked. Our waiter never asked if we'd like another drink or if we liked our food, he was not attentive at all.
Roy's has been our go-to restaurant for treating visitors. Especially notable for the seafood dishes. However, our Thanksgiving day visit did not quite live up to expectations. Although the seafood dishes ordered were very good, they lacked the "wow" we have come to expect. The "traditional" meal, with turkey and trimmings, was disappointingly salty, luke warm, and lacked flavor. The low ratings are due to the cost of the meal not meeting expectations.
Hadn't been to Roys I quite some time. Wow. What a huge disappointment. Our poor server tried her hardest but even she was embarrassed. Took over an hour to get our appetizers which were the best part of the experience. A tempura sushi roll, miso soup and short ribs... and they weren't fabulous but tastey enough we finished them.My Roast chicken entree was terribly dry, blackened mashed potatoes tasted like blackening seasoning and nothing else. Not sure where the gravy was. Tuna entree had no flavor nor did the bok choi. Finding a decent Chardonnay was a challenge. Date cake was so dry- never should have been served. I have submitted several reviews and always find positive things to say in addition to the criticism but after paying the $211 bill(not including tip- we took care of our server) the only positive I can come up with is the effort of our server. I could not, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I️ used to LOVE Roy’s! It’s really turned in a bad way. Everything we got was over cooked and dry except the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was amazing as usual! The server was hard to find, our drinks were constantly empty ( both our water and our Hawaiian martinis); she was not detail oriented and got our dessert order wrong. Just overall disappointing. Wish we had a better experience as we used to go there for Aloha Hour & dinner all the time and were excited to see the bar was expanded. Will try again, as hopefully we just had an off night. With the amount of money we paid we could have went to any nice restaurant in Jacksonville. It’s hard to overlook this experience.
We are great Roy's fans, however, the Sunday Brunch disappointed in price and taste. I had the French Toast and Bacon with Scrambled Eggs. My wife and both ordered scrambled eggs with our meal. The scrambled eggs were so touch and scorched that neither of us could eat them. They were apparently cooked on a hibachi grill and were so overcooked as to be inedible. The French Toast was dry and did not come with any syrup.
We will return to Roy's for evening meals - but- no more brunches.
Worst brunch we’ve ever had. Waited 1.5hrs for the food - no apology from servers. When food got to table the steak and eggs were COLD. The shrimp salad consisted of one shrimp that was diced up to make it look as if it were many shrimps. The roll at the server recommended was barely average. No Pinot Grigio so I had to get Chardonnay which the server recommended that was 17usd a glass... left hungry so had to go get a snack across the street. Will not go here ever again which is a shame.
This restaurant continues to disappoint. Very weak and overpriced wine list. For example, there cakebread chard is $110. Competition sells for $80, and retail around $40. I ordered a different chard and the were out. It took them 15 minutes to figure that out. They tried to serve salad before wine.
They replaced the complementary edomomy beans with a tasteless spring role. Yuck!
The maui wowie salad was not good...to wet imho. I had the tuna which was under sauced.
The waiter was a young kid who had not been properly trained. The wine service was not proper.
The chocolate sufley was excellent as was the Mahi-mahi.
I think this roys is a stain on their franchise. Too inconsistent. It seems that every time I dine there I say never again but as time passes I decide to give another chance. Never again.
The service was terrible! Our waiter was training someone and it took forever for him to return to our table. I was mid bite and the trainee grabbed my plate to take it away. I have many friends who love this restaurant for special occasions and the food was good, but the service ruined the experience for us.
The food was ABSOLUTELY phenomenal. Their price fix menu on Sunday and Monday is AWESOME. My boyfriend had the ribeye and lobster bisque, I had the ribs and mahi..delicious, dessert to die for..souffle and ice cream and key lime tart.
A must if in Jax Beach!!
Roy's never disappoints. The preparation and the food really never varies and is always mucho gusto!. We ended up sitting at the Chef's Table (which we've done many times). Great food, wine & service. A great date night with my wife who always orders the chocolate souffle or lava cake for dessert. You should put Roy's on your list if in the area.
This place is top notch! Nothing short of amazing and the staff are equally as wonderful as the food! We were only in the area for 48 hours and the best two were spent at Roys! If you need to impress or let someone know how much you care...this is easy guys!
This is a continuation from the last visit July 29th. Again woooow. But this is a bad wow. The comment from July 29th has the first part of tonight's visit (8/18/17). My goodness! I cannot even describe how bad the service was. We actually finally got our food at 915 pm. We had sushi and another dish that we said we would share. No extra plates were given. At this point we just do not want to ask because it is so frustrating. Our 10 year old stated, "Is this worth the wait?". Our server was running around and very overwhelmed so we did not even bother to call him. We were partial about coming back but the last part of the dinner sealed it to never coming back. It was the worst service ever. What ever happened to warm welcome and the team being proactive? It is like eating in a whole in a wall place. Only reason is we are paying top dollars to have a really bad service.
We visited Roy's for a birthday celebration. It was very crowded and extremely loud. We were seated immediately,( thank you open table), the service was extremely slow and unpleasing. The food was amazing as always but a dinner for two took two hours due to the service. I am not sure if we were being waited on by a trainee or if the kitchen was behind. Hope things begin to run smoothly again soon.
