Roy's Desert Ridge Ratings and Reviews
We have gone to this location many times. Our waitress was very good and attentive. Service was great. The food took a little longer than normal but we were not in a rush. We sat outside and the weather was spectacular. Our table was great and it was just a perfect night to relax and enjoy the food, the weather, the ambiance and family. A great evening.
The service was most excellent, the food superb. Our server Melissa clearly knew the menu and fielded questions informatively. There were four in our party, and everyone enjoyed their seafood entrees, salads and appetizers very much. We were slightly put off by noisy small children seated near us, but that can happen anywhere. Roys is very pricey, but great for a once or twice a year special occasion. The grounds and buildings of the Marriott are lovely, with extensive mature plantings. If you don't valet park, you will have a bit of a hike. Outdoor seating, complete with tiki lights, is available.
Daniel was a fabulous server. He is passionate about what he does, which reflects in the high quality of service he provides. Besides the fabulous dinner, our dining experience was highlighted by Daniel's kind and gentle manner. The added birthday attention of a free dessert and table photo, made the evening very memorable experience.
Despite the restaurant calling me the day before to confirm the reservation, when we arrived they could not locate my reservation. We waited and they “worked us in” as if doing us a favor. The food and service were great, but the irritation of having a confirmed reservation, but being told there was no reservation, was annoying.
Dinner at Roy's was exceptional. From the starter sushi to the mahi mahi and dessert (pineapple upside down cake)...everything was fresh tasting and mouth watering. Plus, the tropical ambiance of the hotel made it even more special with an outside table. Worth the price and the drive. We truly recommend it. Service was excellent - fun and not pretentious.
Roys has always been a family favorite & we’ve gone for many special events over the years. But this last visit was not up to their usual high standards. Maybe it was that we went using Groupon for a prix fixe for 4 courses. The shared appetizer and entree were very good but the salad with an onion dressing had almost no flavor & the dessert we had to share was so small neither of us had more than 3 spoonfuls. We will give them another try since this was perhaps an off night for them but we won’t go using a discounted coupon.
7:30 dinner reservation, seated outside. Server was nice, placed orders by 7:40. Ordered braised ribs as an appetizer, tasted like burned jerky. Server advised that all dishes that have Ahi tuna will be replaced with Mahi Mahi, not acceptable for a place like Roys imo.
Main entree was finally served at 9pm, and was luke warm at best.
Will definately not go back
The food was excellent. But it was interminably slow. The restaurant was not at all crowded and there were 7 people in the kitchen preparing food (it is open and you can see them working). There were also plenty of wait and service staff,
It took nearly 2 hours for a simple dinner with no dessert. The only good news about the wait was that the food came from the kitchen as soon as it was prepared - so it was fresh and hot. Would hate to see it when it is crowded. This spoiled what could have been a good experience.
First time to this Roy’s. Sat outside near fireplace. Lovely setting. We Always order the butterfish and we were not disappointed. Sushi rolls were superb. Service excellent. Melissa was quite attentive along with her assistant Hunter. Lovely evening. We’ll be back.
Times change. Used to get a great bread basket. Then edamame for pre meal snack. Now nothing. So okay, we all eat too much but here is your order no unexpected surprises or unique characteristics. Food was tasty but...be careful. We can get the neighborhood friendly equivalent for much less.
Attended a few evenings ago and our server seemed uneducated with food allergies. We are both allergic to gluten and dairy. When we told our server this, he seemed intimated and unsure of menu items that can accommodate our dietary restrictions. We asked for suggestions and he did not make us feel like it was his job to accommodate our needs. Seemed distracted and overall unwilling to help. The menu items he did suggest had either “soy" or “butter" in the entree name which is definitely something we cannot digest. He was flustered and a tad short with the answers to our questions which left us hesitant to continue our dinning experience at Roy's. Food and menu education is HUGE, especially when it comes to food allergies. We won’t be rushing back in the near or far future. Perhaps if we had an better educated server who made us feel confident in our food options, we would have had a pleasant experience, but this was not the case for us.
Roy's is located inside the Desert Ridge Marriott, which provides it some nice amenities. We were looking for a place to have my Mother's 100th birthday celebration and the evening before went to Tommy Bahama's. I have to say that there is no comparison between these two. Tommy's had better food, lower prices, similar service and a WAY BETTER view. Roy's is stuck on the ground floor and mostly windowless. They do have an outdoor seating area that is a bonus, except when it is too hot or too cold to use. Tommy's had glass doors on three sides of the room that opened and a balcony on the front. While Roy's has pretty good food and service, the value just isn't there. We started with a Wedge Salad, that while it was acceptable, I've had much better. Also, it was drowned in dressing...which made it marginal. We then had the Roasted Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi, which was good, although not to die for and quite pricey at $42. We also had the Teriyaki Chicken which was good. We ended with the Pineapple Upside Down Cake, which was disappointing.
We visit this hotel at least once a year and always look forward to eating at Roy’s. It never disappoints.Very good again. The black Cod dish was excellent. My wife always orders the chocolate soufflé which she feels is the gold standard.
This Roy’s is consistently one of the best Roy’s in the chain . Looking forward to returning.
They initially had no reservation for us. Receptionist said they have problems with Open Table all the time. It was not very crowded so we got in. The Buttefish is worth it all. I have been staying away from sugar. The waitress said they could do berries with whipped cream without sugar. Bring a small flashlight as they keep the lights very dim.
Roys is something special with a twist on usual fish & steak with exceptional accompaniments. I like that they offer unique sushi options. The other 3 in our party had the seafood sampler, butterfish and swordfish. Everything was exceptional including the griller Caesar salad and miso soup. Only reasons for not rating a outstanding overall is 1) the server was not as attentive as we expected (water glass refills for example) and 2) entree pricing is about $10 too high in my opinion.
I have eaten at several locations of this chain. This was definitely not best one. Didn’t think the food was that great quality for the price.
I had the salmon and I think it was a very standard flavor, nothing special about it. Service was average only.
I was staying at the JW and dined here because I didn’t feel like leaving the property- next time I would leave as there are plenty of options around
Overall nice experience. Our group had a variety of meals. Filet and lobster were perfect! The scallops were good but were paired with a side that was way to sweet. Mashed potatoes were gooey. Shrimp dishes very good. Specialty drinks small after 1 we all opted for wine instead.
