Roy's Desert Ridge Ratings and Reviews
Our service started off very slow, had to call the asst. server over to get our server just to get our first drink which took about 15 min to get our drink! After that it got better, we ordered a 3 course meal on a Thursday by mistake (Sunday and Monday only) but after asking about it had a Manager reduce the price for us. We told our server it was our first visit and didn't realize our mistake. Still never saw a Manager, probably won't go back.
Service was excellent. The wine that piqued my curiosity was never delivered but that was no problem. This family of four decided three on seafood and one beef filet. The daughter's mahi-mahi was excellent, lovely wife and I split the "classic four", of which half was superb to myself and the other half she liked, which leaves the son's filet. Even at a primarily seafood themed restaurant, one in the party should not have to sacrifice quality.
Roy's: The first table they showed us was in the back narrow section of the restaurant by the kitchen with a half wall separating us from the kitchen noise. We asked to be moved to the patio dining area which was very nice with heaters and live music at a distance that added just the right flare to make it special. We later moved from the dining patio to the patio where there was a local singer. She was really very good. Food prices were high. Our server, Kyle, was very professional.
We dined here with our family for NYE while staying at the JW Marriott. Very disappointed. First of all, they didn't even have NYE decorations or party favors, which I thought would have been nice. Secondly, it was FREEZING where we were sitting. The server tried to help with this, but it was so cold that it was uncomfortable for all of us. And worst of all, the Tomahawk steak for 2 that my husband and I ordered was so full of gristle and fat that we maybe each had 2 or 3 small bites of steak. For $130 steak, we expected more. The filets other family members ordered were very good, and the salmon was good. Nothing outstanding, but good. It was way overpriced for the quality and ambiance; especially for NYE.
First off, the Chocolate Souffle dessert is the best chocolate dessert I have ever had in my life. For sure worth making a trip to Roy's. Unfortunately, that was the only item worth going for. The 4 course NY Eve meal was a big disappointment except for that dessert. The pork bun appetizer was just OK; the ramen was way too salty and uninteresting, the osso bucco was overcooked, dry with an overly salty and concentrated sauce. Plus, the bone had no marrow to speak of. The chocolate souffle though...wow!
Amazing fresh seafood! Great service as usual from Scott after two dinner services this month! Both were celebrations of family. The last was truly amazing with a awesome send of a chocolate souffle for my father's and my joint birthday! Even the surrounding tables joined us in the merriment and song, quite delightful!
We came here for Christmas and booked through OpenTable. We were unaware that it was a price fix menu. We were very disappointed with the selections. To make matters worse they were out of one of the entrees we wanted. Also, the appetizers were not as advertised. The lobster potsticker tasted like ground beef. Our kids selected a sushi roll appetizer which was very heavy on the tempura. When it came time for dessert, two out of the three options were not even available. It was a very expensive meal and we left very unsatisfied.
This was our first visit ever to a Roy's. Was not impressed. For the price, the portions are tiny. Our server, who said my young daughter's requests for no mushrooms would be accommodated, was incorrect. After sending one plate back to get a new order sans mushrooms, the food finally came out when the rest of us were almost done eating. You could clearly tell they only attempted to pick thru her meal to remove the mushrooms (below the surface we found many) and did not create a new plate as we were told. Thank God this was only a food aversion not an allergy as there would have been a problem. We stay at the JW every year at this time but will probably never go back to Roy's; too many great options in Scottsdale to waste our time and money here.
My visit to Roy’s was one of the beat this year! It was a birthday celebration & we were treated with exceptional food, service & ambiance! Our server Dixie and all her assistants knew the right pace and were present & also allowed for us to enjoy & visit. The food was fabulous and I will look forward to my next dinner at Roy’s!
Monday 3 course dinner is a great deal, food is consistent with Roys and always good. It was an unusually quiet evening and our server, Dixie was really friendly and helpful.
We stopped at the bar for a happy hour drink before our Hawaiian martini was terrible, not even similar to the original recipe you find at Roys in Hawaii. The mai tai was marginally better.
We have gone to this location many times. Our waitress was very good and attentive. Service was great. The food took a little longer than normal but we were not in a rush. We sat outside and the weather was spectacular. Our table was great and it was just a perfect night to relax and enjoy the food, the weather, the ambiance and family. A great evening.
The service was most excellent, the food superb. Our server Melissa clearly knew the menu and fielded questions informatively. There were four in our party, and everyone enjoyed their seafood entrees, salads and appetizers very much. We were slightly put off by noisy small children seated near us, but that can happen anywhere. Roys is very pricey, but great for a once or twice a year special occasion. The grounds and buildings of the Marriott are lovely, with extensive mature plantings. If you don't valet park, you will have a bit of a hike. Outdoor seating, complete with tiki lights, is available.
Daniel was a fabulous server. He is passionate about what he does, which reflects in the high quality of service he provides. Besides the fabulous dinner, our dining experience was highlighted by Daniel's kind and gentle manner. The added birthday attention of a free dessert and table photo, made the evening very memorable experience.
Despite the restaurant calling me the day before to confirm the reservation, when we arrived they could not locate my reservation. We waited and they “worked us in” as if doing us a favor. The food and service were great, but the irritation of having a confirmed reservation, but being told there was no reservation, was annoying.
