Terrific food and beautiful space. Went there with my wife before a show. Never disappoints, the Butterfish is always amazing and my wife loves the Mahi. Shared the “canoe for two” which was also excellent. Cocktails are well made and strong. Didn’t have dessert this time, but I love the Pineapple Upsidedown cake.

Roy's is our favorite place to eat in the city. The food is always excellent, even when there is a fixed menu, as we had for New Years eve.

We took out of town friends to Roy’s to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Our waiter was rude and pretentious. It was really apparent what he thought of us from the moment he greeted our table. The Prix fixe menu was great overall. The entree was definitely the least impressive course among the table, but the rest of the meal was top notch. For the price we paid, we really should have been treated with a little more respect by our waiter.

We were seated by the window and it was pretty chilly. It's a beautiful space. The service was excellent. The food was just okay for the price.

Christmas Eve, arrived 15 min early for reservation in snow and were told to wait standing in the bar area, although it turned out that our table had been available the whole time. The host wanted to control flow for the servers, but keeping people standing on Christmas Eve in snowy coats unnecessarily was not appreciated and harmed the overall experience. Lobster tail was overdone. Filet was nice.

The is the most un Roy like restaurant I have been two. Perhaps being in the heart of Chicago made everything forget they are supposed to provide a warm Island vibe. This was nothing more than a cold Chicago eatery.

Good was as good as I remembered it from years ago. Chinese spare ribs were especially good. Maui Wowie said was full of seafood and lumps of avocado. Service was rather impersonal and in my view crossed the line between leaving us alone to talk and ignoring us.

Very nice restaurant and menu, but out of some items like tuna and understaffed (probably expecting a slow Sunday or maybe people called in sick.)

We came in for an early birthday dinner and Marlin was our server. He was AMAZING! The restaurant was not crowded at all and we got in quick. The food was fresh and the flavors were on point. The drinks are strong and good. They told a nice picture of the group as a birthday souvenir. For 3 ppl the bill was $200.00. Overall great experience!

Meal commenced with an outstanding sushi roll, flavorful and with contrasting textures. The salad, similarly, offered a good crunch to complement the greens, and a pleasantly tangy dressing. The grilled tofu steak, unfortunately, did not seem to be marinated prior to grilling. Rather, it seemed the flavor was supposed to come from a sauce I assume was added after the fact. But, since the sauce was thin, it didn't really adhere to the tofu. I should probably have asked for a spoon, so that I could have taken more sauce with each bite. Closing lime tart was terrific.

Roy's was a lovely date night spot. Crowded on a Friday night but not overly loud. We even had a Groupon, and the service was still great.

Food is always great here. I like the special email deals but not how the staff doesn’t convey them. This particular pairing this month was very good but the portions were so small I left the restaurant still hungry. Overall though Roy’s is a good place with great food and great staff

We really enjoy Roy's Hawaiian influenced menu items. While many menu items are very good, I prefer to have a "canoe" for my main meal. This is an assortment of appetizers and the item I crave most when I dine at Roys.

We made the mistake of going on a weekend around noon, it may have been a Sunday, and were not aware that we would be limited to the "brunch" menu.

Disappointed that the canoe was not available, we asked the waiter if it was possible to get an order of Butterfish (our favorite dinner menu entre item). We were very pleased that the kitchen was able to accommodate us on this. Kudos to the wait staff on their service.

Among the brunch items that did satisfy were the lobster pot stickers and Szechuan Ribs. My daughter had an ahi-tuna appetizer that was excellent as well. The Kaffir Lime Tart was available so dessert proved to be the highlight of our meal.

The wine list was more than sufficient as well.

The restaurant tends to be loud. There seems to be some need to run a blender (or other noisy kitchen appliance) making conversation a tad difficult in the main dining area - especially for the hearing challenged.

All in all though, we enjoy Roys and recommend it highly.

We just enjoyed another great evening at Roy's. We prefer to sit at the kitchen counter and watch food being prepared. The sushi/desert chef, Taj, was extremely engaging and a pleasure to visit with. The executive chef also stopped by and invited us to one of his cooking classes. And of course the meals were great...she had the butterfish (always) and I did the shellfish sampler. Very nice lobster portion. In addition, we got a nice little chicken with peanut sauce skewer as a treat. Since things were a bit slow (Monday before Thanksgiving), Taj asked us our preference in sushi and made up a quick one for us to taste. Upon leaving, the manager gave us a gift card! Wow!
We love Roy's and the people!

I went to Roy's to use a gift card. I wanted to like it, but from the super sugary cocktails to the sauce that didn't compliment the lobster pot stickers very well I was wishing I had regifted the gift card. I will say the best thing I ate was the lump crab fried rice. The rice was well cooked, it had good flavor and nice pieces of crab.

Food was fair. It feels like a tired chain restaurant with staff that really doesn't want to be there. Hostess and bartender were on their cell phones. We were seated right next to a couple when most of the dining room was empty and we would have preferred more privacy and they had horrible table manners.
Desserts seemed like they came out of a package. Bathrooms had cracked tiles and dirty walls. I do not expect we'll return.

Enjoyed the Sunday brunch menu, shared lobster potstickers, California rolls. Lobster bisque was superb with large chunks of lobster. Warm chocolate lava-like cake, made to order, worth the wait. Delish!
