We have been dinign at Roy's for 7 years. There seems to have been a large change of staff from greeters to wait staff. Our 2 concerns: Reserved dining for birthday surprise. When we arrived, no recognition of special event. Had to ask if they were aware. Waiter needs more training. He brought the bill as he brought dessert.
Awesome dinner. Had the special which was beef short ribs and misoyaki butterfish. Both were fork tender, moist and great flavors. We split a wedge salad, which was more than enough for both of us. We ordered the Pineapple Upside down cake, which is always a favorite. But, this time is was burnt around the edges. We should of brought it to our servers attention. But, it takes at least 20 minutes for one to be baked and we really were full from dinner. Not usual for our favorite place. We’ll be back!
Our trip to Roy's was due to a groupon prix fre meal. We were promptly seated in a requested booth.
The service was impeccable. Our waiter was Chase. He was very attentive without being pushy or rushing us.
There were multiple wait staff with assigned duties that they all carried out perfectly.
The appetizer spring rolls were very good.
For the main entree we both had the macadamia nut crusted fish in lobster sauce. It was delightful.
We finished with the chocolate tort! Oh, don't hesitate to order this if you have a sweet tooth!
Because of our "clean" eating habits we generally don't eat out often. Roy's was a nice treat.
I would recommend this for a special occasion or if you are used to eating rich, buttery food, anytime!
We bought a Groupon for fixed price 3 course meal. We were familiar with their fixed menu offering, but surprised that the Groupon was different than their standard menu albeit "VIP". Ha! We had i think 4 choices of entree + extra $ for other offerings. One of us chose one of the upgrades which was a delicious 3 fish sampler. The other the macadamia nut crusted fish, also very good. Service was spotty as the server had his favorite table he hovered. We chose a lemon tart dessert which was just ok, should have chosen the chocolate.
The Groupon offered by Roy's worked: we will be back very soon. Wide ranging menu, lots of excellent, fresh seafood choices but also a wagyu burger that made me want to go to a seafood restaurant for a burger. Sides were very fresh tasting, with multi-layered bursts of flavors in the Futomaki rolls. I had a macadamia crusted whitefish in a very good sauce. Order anything: you will like it.
Came up to Phoenix for the auto show and then some shopping. Staying overnight meant finding a good place for dinner. Roy's was the choice and what a choice it was. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Great atmosphere. Good wine list. Just sorry we didn't live a little closer. Hey why not come down and open a restaurant in Tucson.
We could not have had a better night. First we returned after our anniversary and had bought the Groupon Prix Fix coupon. We did a horrible job of not reading all the menu details and were extremely dissapointed with our menu choices. However, the manager, Chris, went out of his way to give us what we thought we were going to have. He could not of been more gracious or accommodating. This is an example of what Roy's is all about. The food, of course, was perfect as was the service.
Food was delicious. Lobster potstickers were great, and the butterfish was outstanding. Just melted in your mouth.
I'm not sure about the theming with it being "Hawaiian fusion". The menu seemed more Asian than Hawaiian to me (potstickers, sushi, etc).
I was there for a business dinner, and don't have a Roy's near me. If I did, I would probably go, but not very often. It seemed a little expensive for the food we had.
Once again, Roy's was outstanding. Great filet and mahi mahi along with mai tais finishing with the souffle - what more can you ask for. You have to ask for the edamame as it is not automatically served not does the server as if you want some. Don't hesitate to stop here.
Always great food/service! My clients asked what I recommended from the menu and I said virtually everything - there is nothing I or anyone else has had before that they didn’t like.
The only recommendation is that they learn to make a good cosmo and serve it cold and in a larger /‘chilled glass like most other restaurants (i.e. Tommy Bahama). Wines are always good. We go to Roys on Kauai and in Chandler. Always a good experience.
I've always had a great experience at Roy's. The food and service is always what you expect. It's tough going there and not getting the butterfish, but I make myself try different things on the menu and I'm glad I do... every 3rd time or so though I have to get it :). The prices are a bit on the higher end depending on what you get, but to me it's worth it if I can get what I pay for, and I always feel that way there. This last Sunday was great, I had mentioned it was our anniversary and they gave us a nice comp'd dessert and some champagne. The server was really great also, I was pretty sure she had served us before, so glad she was still good.
We went to the bar first for appetizers and a cocktail. The bartender was very friendly and the martinis were terrific. On to dinner in the dining room. The Butter Fish was splendid. My wife had the Lobster and loved it. Great wine list as well. We'll be back!
We arrived a few minutes early and were immediately seated in a requested booth. (It was very quiet - and not busy). While it very expensive to eat at Roys, we knew that going in having eaten at Roys on Maui. Service was very warm and friendly, we were very comfortable. Food arrived well spaced between apps and entrees. Husband actually tried the grilled tofu steak with various veggies and loved it. I had the filet mignon with teppan shrimp. The filet was perfect temp at medium rare, however the shrimp was dry and over cooked - I would forego the shrimp and just enjoy the filet next time or possibly try the mahi mahi. The side with the filet/shrimp was a mashed yukon potato with a carrot cut into three pieces and stuck into the potatoes along with one sprig of asparagus (cut into 3 pieces) a quartered, cooked beet and a sprig of brocolini laying next to the whipped pile of potatoes - not overly pretty - but the veggies were not over cooked and the potatoes were delicious. We did indulge in drinks before dinner (their version of a moscow mule - overly sweet and syrupy - would pass if you like moscow mules and husband had a bacon bloody mary - interesting - served with a pepperoni stick) and dessert - which we don't usually do. The pineapple upside down cake was a real treat, but we felt a little too sweet. The haupia (coconut) ice cream had chewy shredded coconut in it and we felt it took away from the creaminess of the ice cream as it was too chewy... but it's all about personal taste! We also had a delicious decaf coffee with our dessert - smelled like Kona to us. Yum. While it is not a place to go 3x a week at the cost, it is a very lovely place to go for a treat and if you like really awesome service.
I have Celiac disease and a shellfish allergy. The chef and management take it serious and understand about cross contamination. ASK for the Quad for your dinner entree, it is a wonderful sample of 4 delicious specialty fish and individual sauces they serve off their menu . Thanks Chef for taking care of me and my dietary needs!
We were disappointed with our visit to Roy's this time. As somewhat regular Roy's customers, we had received an email advertising a lobster ramen special. It looked so good, we were excited to try it and both my wife and I ordered it. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as good as it looked in the email. The noodles were somewhat dry and mushy. Perhaps it would have been better with some broth. The lobster was good, but it wasn't enough to overcome the lackluster meal as a whole. I had just flown back into town from Seattle that evening and I honestly had a better ramen dish up there for only $8.00!
Took our friends here for their first visit. They loved it as much as we do. Added bonus, since we belong to their "Ohana Club" we received a great offer. Buy one bottle of wine, per table, and all entrees are 1/2 price. Although, we didn't need the enticement because it is so fabulous, I had filet mingnon and lobster for $30.! Unbelievable and SO amazing. Join Ohana! Just saying.
Love the butter fish and when we were meeting friends, told them about it and now there are 2 more butter fish lovers. Service was outstanding, Chase was the best. There was a nearby group who probably should have been seated in a private room, rather distracting.
We went for restaurant week in the middle of week. It was our anniversary and we had let them know when we made reservation.
It was not crowded when we arrived and they had a table reserved for us with a Anniversary card; however, as we were served our meal we realized, we were right next to the door for a private large dinner. The staff was buzzing by every 30 seconds in and out of the room. I found it very annoying when the restaurant wasn't full that we were seated next to this.
Food was great, service slow and ambiance below expectations.
