Our server was very friendly and efficient. Food was good though not exceptional.
We had a 7.30 reservation which we were seated 30 minutes late. Our waiter was excellent but our food was served VERY LATE. We received our main courses at 9.30!!! We called the manager and he kept apologizing but didn’t offer anything. We asked him if he would pick up 2 glasses of wine and he said ok. I’ve been to Roy’s 5 times in 6 weeks. This was the worst experience and do not plan on coming back
We are Canadians who include Roy's on our visit lists every time we head south to our Florida home. Since the francise was sold just over a year ago, the entire experience has withered with us. We miss the chef Jason and the Manager who used to greet us and feel welcome all the time. Before on the the fixed price menu you could choose ANY three items on the menu (not the canoe platter tho). Now, they have an extremely limited fixed price menu - one for $36 and another one for more expensive for $46 which has the butterfish on it. When we went this time, we had to ASK for the fixed price menu. They no longer give it to you with the dinner menu so people who aren't familiar with the restaurant are not aware it exists (pretty slimy marketing if you ask me). Our dinner was EXTREMELY SLOW - about 20-30 minutes between courses. The new chef is pretty unaccommodating (my husband asked for a thicker sauce on his TNT fish and he told our server he couldn't do it flat out - she was very apologetic about it and seemed upset he was so unaccommodating as well). In the 4-6 times we have been there since the business sale we have seen 4-6 managers, none have ever asked us how our meal was including the new guy the other night who seemed to hover over every server rather than check on the patrons satisfaction with their meals. the local Costco has told us that there are no discount meal cards in stock - a sign that 1)people are discovering it's becoming too expensive to eat there and are trying to save $20 using the discount card and 2) new owners of Roy's not wanting to allow too many cards in circulation because it affects their bottom line.
We have been disappointed with the direction this restaurant is heading. It used to be our #1 place to go when we came south and based on our most current experience, we are thinking it's time to find a new favourite. To the new Texas-based owners; it was better the way it was before. If it ain't broke, don't mess with it!
Waiter started the evening by telling us that he could not prioritize us because he had another bigger table. We were seated in a corner and were pretty much ignored for the evening.
While Roy's didn't knock my socks off, we enjoyed our meal very much. Actually let me rephrase that - we adored our appetizers! and that's what we will definitely go back for. The appetizers were delicious. The Sunrise at Haleakela sushi roll was out of this world... as was the chicken spring roll. I tried the Roy's Sampler Plate which consisted of the three main fish dishes... and while it was tasty, it wasn't all that special. The desserts, on the other hand, were also fabulous. So, go heavy on the apps and desserts... and perhaps try something standard for your main course. We did have the short ribs which were very good.
Service was attentive and very friendly... but a bit inexperienced.
I love Roys have been to the original in Kaui and have visited Roys all over Hawaii and whenever I am able. My husband, family and I simply love the food! Totally engaging, creative and authentic-if you havent experienced Roys you simply have to put the restaurant on your "places to go" list.
The service was very good. Carlos took great care of us. We had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. We also had a side order of mushrooms which was a nice addition with our steak dinner. Our son had the tuna which he enjoyed. We also had the pineapple cake for dessert which was delicious. Our experience was excellent.
We were in the Ft Myers area for a few days (sox spring training) and looking for a local non chain restraunt with gluten free options. I just happened to come accross Roys by googling...so happy I did. Will come again next season for sure....oh yeah...great specialty drinks!
We’ve had good experiences at other Roys in the past but this one completely dropped the ball for brunch. We were the only ones dining for most of our visit, yet sushi took 45 minutes to arrive. Entrees (Filet & Lobster Benedict’s , Loco Moco), while tasty, arrived lukewarm.
Service was extremely slow and inattentive, drinks were not refilled for some time and there was no apology for the delay in both sushi and entree arrival.
We were looking forward to returning later this week for dinner, but have canceled that reservation. If you like Roys, skip this one and enjoy it in another city. There’s a reason why this one’s empty.
Biggest complaint was that we were seated at a booth and the seat backs were at a 90 degree angle to the seat bottom which was too small to sit on comfortably, and entrée was slow to arrive, but was served hot and tasted good.
Very disappointing - ORDERED TUNA TARTARE AS APPETIZER - SERVED WITH 2 SMALL PIECES OF TOAST - WHEN ASKED FOR EXTRA TOASTED RECEIVED 2 MORE SMALL PIECES. Had MOROCCAN STUFFED CHICKEN - CHICKEN DRY AND PASTY - VERY LITTLE STUFFING AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WAS IN IT - SAUCE ON SIDE SOME SORT OF CURRY? NONE OF IT WAS VERY MOROCCAN. HUSBAND HAD SHRIMP DISH - IT WAS JUST OKAY.
IN GENERAL OVERPRICED FOR WHAT IT IS.
This is the best restaurant in Southwest Florida! Healthy selections, great food and drinks, and the service is incredible. Looking forward to going back.
We love Roy's . This time the mashed potatoes were really bad. Everything else was great. And the desserts that were served for the birthday were fabulous! Love the prix frixe option is so interesting and well worth it. Roy's doesn't disappoint.
Great food. Fantastic service. Smaler ding room can be very loud but still a nice evening with friends
It was nice, little bit of a zoo during check in and wait for our table. Our server was excellent and good was very good, prices are certainly not cheap.
Although it appears when we arrived that the restaurant may have been overbooked for
that night--we only had to wait a few minutes beyond our reservation.
Houston our server was outstanding. We had pre-ordered the lamb chops which were
excellent and had a visit from the chef to make sure of the accompaniments being what we
We've never had a bad experience at Roy's---which is why we and many others continue to
go there to dine.
The server spilled an entire glass of red wine all over my white shirt and the best that he offered us was a dry cleaning certificate at a location that is 1 hour away from where I live. The manager never came over until I asked to speak with him after we looked at the bill and nothing was comped/taken off. The manager then after pointing out the multiple issues we had with how the spilled wine was handled offered to take off our food which was nice after we had to asked but my feeling is that it should have been offered.
The food was good as it has always been at Roy's. This is my first time at this location and I would not recommend going to this location.
Love going to Roy's when in Hawaii and this place is a special treat for its unique menu and great service.
Great food, ambiance, energy, elegant dining, great for entertaining visitors.
Close to home, Promanade a great place for entertainment, shopping
I can never complain about the food or service but the noise level is excruciating - especially for people who are hearing impaired. Surely, there is something that can be done to absorb some of that noise. It actually sounded like people were shouting - and maybe they were!😞
We had a group of 10. Despite the large group, the service was excellent. food was great.
I have visited Roy's in Bonita many times and it's always a great experience! The mahi mahi was amazing. The apps and desserts were delish and Kelly our server was top notch! Love love love this place! If you want a great dinner out Roys will not disappoint.
Wife’s Birthday was the occasion. Would have figured they’d put us at a nice table in the back of the main dining room. Instead for a 5PM reservation, we were seated in the overflow area next to the bar that’s more than lacking in charm and privacy. This was odd because the restaurant wasn’t packed. When I suggested to my wife we change tables, she stopped me. She doesn’t like discord and was content to eat and leave instead of enjoy and indulge.
Food wasn’t spectacular. It used to be much better when chef Jason was there. Now that the restaurant is in new hands, the food is ok.
The only thing that stands out food wise is the chocolate lava cake dessert. Maybe the next trip will be for dessert only.
Wait staff was slow, slow, slow.
I used to love this place. But now, for the price, the service and quality of food you receive, there are so many more appealing options out there.
It was a birthday celebration Every entree plus appetizers were perfect. Thanks for the Souflee
While the flavor of the fish was good it was overcooked beyond medium rare which I wouldn't expect from an upscale restaurant that focuses on high quality fish.
a return engagement.......we loved it so much. we were on holiday and enjoyed ROYS for the first time on saturday. we liked it very much and returned for a second visit two days later.
i think that says it all !!
The prix fixe menu for Sunday and Monday for $39.99 for 3 courses was a real value. I received the information on this value via email but wasn't given the menu for it when we arrived. We had to request the special menu. Service was slow, but adequate.
The food was so delicious that we took some home. even went back for a second dinner a few days later
The staff is exemplary in personality and in service. I heartily recommend this restaurant
The tempura shrimp/shishito/meiji mushroom app was not nearly as good as the expectation given by the menu description. Tempura shrimp turned out to be tiny shrimp coated with a thin tempura batter then fried in a wok, not deep fried in oil like tempura ordinarily is, CHOPPED shishito peppers and mushrooms. Overly salty. The seafood trio entree was OK, but I'm not a fan of the sauce. I had much higher expectations based on a perusal of the website menu. The server was slow, forgetful, and too quick to leave the table resulting in having to call to him to come back to get the rest of the orders. There were only 5 of us so it shouldn't have been that hard. Roy's has a well deserved reputation so I'll hope that this instance was an aberration.
Mahi Mahi was dry and dense, not much flavor, Server had no personality
Prices were as high as much better restaurants, only 3 spears of asparagus and only about two tablespoons of rice. Very little food for the price.
We were disappointed with our experience at Roy's. The meals were small and overpriced, and the service wasn't up to par. It was so noisy that it was hard to have conversations and hear the waitress. Due to a lack of thought by our waitress only the birthday girl got to have dessert. The only reason anyone got coffee was that I specifically asked for it, along with a dessert menu, but the server never came back for a dessert order. Just really poor service that could have been completely avoided. I won't be returning to Roy's.
It was perfect. Always is. Kelly is an amazing waitress.
Ordered trio fish with rice and book chow. Rice was cold. Fish was cold had to ask for bread...which came when the meal was almost finished. Wine was grossly overpriced to the point of 400-500% profit
The Cesar salad was but good. The tempura shrimp were a bit of a disappointment. The place is nice but overpriced even for the Bonita market. The selections were a bit limited and not as creative as I was led to believe from others.
This was once a fantastic place. They have lost many great servers and a great chef. Service is slow and food is average and bland. So sad. Not sure what happened but Roy's is off our list. Thumbs down.
We were pleasantly surprised at Roy's. We had walked by the restaurant several times but hadn't been there until we did so on the spur of the moment. Food was excellent, service great, atmosphere pleasant. Great salmon with a sweet grilled crust and delicious Asian stuffed chicken. Prices for those menu items very reasonable, though some entrees seemed expensive. We'll be back!
Roy’s is outstanding. They are consistently good - time and time again. The food is amazing. The wait staff make you feel like you are the only one in the restaurant. Such a pleasurable experience.
We LOVE ROY'S. However, our last experience was not good. We told our waiter we were starved and would give him our entire order at once. We did. Then the horrendous wait began. First for drinks. Then the endless wait for the appetizers. But, the most endless wait of all for the entrees. This was a total abnormal experience for Roy's. We were very disappointed. But, are returning in two days with a party of six. Our only hope is the service scenario is considerably much improved.
Quality of the food was unsurpassed. Staff were friendly and helpful. My overall experience was exceptional. Thank you
