Roy's Anaheim Ratings and Reviews
Came on valentine's day with my wife. Arrived early with an 8:45pm reservation and was seated promptly at 8:40pm. Food menu was limited to the valentines day 4 course special. A few minutes after we placed our order, the waitress came and alerted us that the kitchen was backed up and food might take a little longer than usual. Waited about 45 minutes before the first course came out. Spicy tuna roll was nice and crunchy. Flavor was decent. Chicken Spring rolls lacked chicken, and was more like an egg roll. Waited about another 30 minutes for the second course. Cesar salad was deconstructed, meaning the lettuce wasn't cut, but the taste was fine (typical cesar salad). The lobster bisque had a kick to it, and honestly tasted like thai curry with decent size chunks of real lobster. Had to wait another 30 minutes for the 3rd and main course and started eating around 10:35pm. Wife got the filet and lobster. The filet was a little dry, but cooked to the desired medium rare. Lobster was cooked well and very good. I got the new york strip but I wasn't impressed. The lobster mac n cheese however, was very good.
It was too late into the night to enjoy our 4th course (dessert) so we took it to go.
Our overall experience was very unpleasant. Although the waitress was very nice and kept stopping by and saying sorry for the wait, it seemed like nothing was done to ensure they cared for their customers. We looked around and others who were seated around the same time looked frustrated as they waited. We were at the Roys for over 2 hours. Their parking validation only covers 1 hour. I thought it would have been nice if they at least offered to cover for our drinks or compensate for the additional 1 hour I had to pay for parking, but we got nothing.
I want to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but this was our first and probably the last time we would ever visit this restaurant.
My only recommendation for this place: Stay away during special/busy days (Valentine's day)
The Valentine 4 course meal kind off sucked! I ordered the Lobster and Filet mignon, (includes soup, appetizers and dessert). Took so long for each course food to come, the filet mignon was dry and boring presentation, lobster is so-so. The mango mojito cocktail is okay. Didn’t bother to eat the dessert there as we were sitting down for 2 1/2 hrs already, opted to take it home so I don’t know if its a good dessert. My back was so sore from sitting too long in there. Roy’s let me down this time. I used to love this place
We’ve been there many times but this time was very disappointing because Miso soup was very salty. Three of us ordered but couldn’t eat because it was so salty. And main entree is our favorite misoyaki butterfish but sauce they used was different than before and price was up almost twice. It sure wasn’t worth going for sure. We are thinking of not going there anymore. Appetizer and dessert was good.
Ambiance outside was great. Waiter was attentive and fun at first but it fell apart after a table of six drunk women kept ordering drinks and being served even though they were clearly intoxicated. It was as if we didn't exist after awhile. Then the birthday dessert comes and it has the wrong name on the plate. Even though he has been using my daughter's name every time he approaches the table and it's on a huge card the restaurant placed on the table. The plate says Sophia and my daughter's name is Madison. And I tell the waiter and he doesn't offer to fix it. Until the checks comes, and he clearly sees I'm annoyed. Ruined a special 16th birthday dinner.
We were in town for a major convention. It took almost 3 hours for us to get our food. We sat there and watched while many tables around us who were seated after we were, received their meals. We complained and were treated very fairly, however it just seems that even though Anaheim is a convention town, the restaurant was not prepared. So from an experience and service aspect, that night was not great. From a food aspect, you really can't go wrong with the food at Roy's.
Thank you Traci T. for the excellent service! It was a very busy night, and you still made sure we were very well cared for and had a fantastic dining experience - you're the best, Traci. I had the three-course special - what a great deal and a good amount of food:) - no skimping. I can't wait to try the Monday night three-course special again! I cannot remember what my husband ordered, but he enjoyed it. We always have a great experience here at Roy's in Anaheim. The vegetable rolls are absolutely delicious, too. Looking forward to returning - hopefully soon.
We love Roy’s. We go to the one in Pasadena monthly, but the Anaheim location was subpar in comparison. We sat at the bar and had to wait too long to be checked in with and had to flag down a bartender to get a happy hour service in time. Usually the mahi mahi is my favorite dish, but tonight i was underwhelmed and felt like it was super fishy. Hopefully it was just an off night, but I expect more from a Roy’s establishment. Look forward to continuing to stop in for sure meals.
Dinner was OK to say the least. The waitress was quite nice but things took a very dramatic turn when served our steak. Steak was cooked rare when asked for medium. After noticing the mistake the waitress said she would take the steak off the bill and when the bill came, the steak was still charged for. We didn’t bother to tell her of her mistake but the mistakes kept coming back to back after also noticing a charge for a drink we did not order. We decided to pay anyways and just leave.
Thank you to Traci T. for the excellent service. Whenever we eat here, we so enjoy ourselves because of her. She does a fantastic job of making sure our dining and beverage needs are met. She is also concerned that we enjoy our dishes, 100% - my husband and I deeply appreciate her thoughtfulness in everything she has done for us. She was so busy this evening - a lot of people eating late - and she (with the help of her wonderful co-worker - I forgot to get her name) made sure our dining experience was stellar.
This time, I had decided to eat a good amount of sushi rolls. The Haleakala roll is scrumptious! We also love the vegetarian rolls - Futomaki and Caterpillar. We were also surprised with a delightful amuse bouche - yummy (salty-sweet crunchy - umami)! (I am attaching a picture). My husband tried the Sea Breeze cocktail and continued to order it throughout our time at Roy's. We enjoy the ambiance and appreciate that this restaurant takes a 10:00 pm reservation - because of our current schedule we sometimes can't get there any earlier. Now that my schedule is changing, we may be able to get there earlier. I feel for the crew because they have to stay pretty late, but I am grateful that we always feel welcome and not rushed. Thank you!
