Roy's Anaheim Ratings and Reviews
Dinner was OK to say the least. The waitress was quite nice but things took a very dramatic turn when served our steak. Steak was cooked rare when asked for medium. After noticing the mistake the waitress said she would take the steak off the bill and when the bill came, the steak was still charged for. We didn’t bother to tell her of her mistake but the mistakes kept coming back to back after also noticing a charge for a drink we did not order. We decided to pay anyways and just leave.
Thank you to Traci T. for the excellent service. Whenever we eat here, we so enjoy ourselves because of her. She does a fantastic job of making sure our dining and beverage needs are met. She is also concerned that we enjoy our dishes, 100% - my husband and I deeply appreciate her thoughtfulness in everything she has done for us. She was so busy this evening - a lot of people eating late - and she (with the help of her wonderful co-worker - I forgot to get her name) made sure our dining experience was stellar.
This time, I had decided to eat a good amount of sushi rolls. The Haleakala roll is scrumptious! We also love the vegetarian rolls - Futomaki and Caterpillar. We were also surprised with a delightful amuse bouche - yummy (salty-sweet crunchy - umami)! (I am attaching a picture). My husband tried the Sea Breeze cocktail and continued to order it throughout our time at Roy's. We enjoy the ambiance and appreciate that this restaurant takes a 10:00 pm reservation - because of our current schedule we sometimes can't get there any earlier. Now that my schedule is changing, we may be able to get there earlier. I feel for the crew because they have to stay pretty late, but I am grateful that we always feel welcome and not rushed. Thank you!
We were in Anaheim for a family vacation at Disneyland, but one night my wife and I took off and ate dinner at Roy's. Food was great: salad, Poke and Szechuan short rib apps, butterfish, and braised beef ribs entrees. The room is big with a low-key contemporary Hawaiian ambience. Have to love the Tiki torches outside. We ate early, so the room was quiet, but I can image it has a friendly buzz later in the evening when it fills up.
Only 8 oz. filet I have ever had in a Restaurant that was about a half inch thick and as large as a big pork chop. When I asked the server about it he said well we cut our own meat here which made me wonder why it was cut that way. The table across from me had a filet that looked like a filet. Also the server continually rushed us even though we said we will drink our wine for a few minutes
Went on Christmas day so was expecting it to be busy but was not expecting the service to be so bad with a table for 4 people. Arrived 15 min before the reservation time was told I had to wait until the reservation time that was not the problem the problem was that after been seated an handed the menu it took them a good 20 min to get our drinks after that another good 20 min to get our food order in an did not get our food until 8:45. Was expecting some wait but was not expecting that all 3 food courses having a buffer of close to 30 min. We were in no hurry but the wait from the appetisers to the actual dinner an then for dessert seemed it took for ever even after the fact plates were removed after each course. In all food was good hope this doesnt happen in a regular basis an it was all due to been a holiday.
Roy's made us feel special.
We was celebrating my daughter's accomplishment getting into the Nursing Program and they brought a dessert with the word congratulation written on the plate and said it as well to her when they delivered it.
The food was Devine, my cuz and I had the half chicken, I also had shrimp with mine. Then my daughter had filet mignon. There was not an empty left at our table.
Our server was so attentive and polite, we never had to find ourselves looking for her.
Food is very good but the service is horrible. Been to this place 3 times. First time experience was good. Good food and service was okay. Second time we went, service was noticeably worse than our previous visit. Went in again on a Monday night and were seated around 6:15 PM. We got our orders in 15 minutes later. Half an hour has passed and our appetizers have not been served. We were informed that the kitchen was backed up and our orders should be coming out shortly. It took another 20 minutes before our appetizers finally came out. We finished our appetizers and waited another 15 minutes for our main dish. We thought that the bad service on our second visit was just a fluke, but after the third visit, we pretty much made up our minds that will be our last visit to this place.
Michelle, our server, was great. She was uber professional. She was polite, courteous, respectful, attentive and kind. She was very helpful as we each decide on which items to get. The first impression provided by the hostesses was a mixture of a cold reception to a somewhat potentially friendly one. Weird. Would it hurt for the hostesses to smile as they greeted their guests? I was early so I witnessed their reaction as they greet the guests/patrons. None of them smiled. No one asked how people are doing. Eye contact is rare. Food was delicious. Table service was acceptable. The bus boys were very attentive to our requests as well. We will continue to have our get together in the future. My suggestion is to work on having friendly and inviting hostesses. I mean they dressed the part, they just have to be more inviting and warm to the guests/patrons.
Took an out of town business acquaintance here. We were delayed by traffic I called ahead and everyone was so very nice about it. We were promptly seated and offered beverages. Appetizer was squid, really great sauce, not deep fried. Salad was the Mauai wowie, really good, composed, not over dressed and a nice but not overwhelming size. Dinner was scallops and the combo. Everything was super start to finish. Cocktails were noteworthy as well.
We had our company holiday party at 2pm and didn't realize they only had a lunch limited menu... Lights in the restaurant went out so we were in the dark until someone figured it out.
Have had dinner there before and it was great. Dont go for lunch, they clearly dont want that business. Disappointed and employees were not happy.
Tim and his staff, particularly Christina and Jason, deserve a 10 on a scale of 1-5. They went above and beyond for my family. The attention to detail was off the charts as they had a name card on our table and put our names on desert plates to celebrate our birthdays. The food and service here is the best!!!!!!
I've been a fan of Roy's restaurants for years and have eaten at many locations including Downtown LA, Newport Beach, Hawaii Kai (Oahu). The food is usually very good to outstanding, but the meal at the Anaheim location was absolutely terrible. The service was fine and the staff are friendly, but the crab fried rice I had was awful. The crab was not fresh but more importantly, the rice was very undercooked. When rice is hard on the inside, it is undercooked, and for an Asian restaurant to undercook rice is pretty bad. Then I had the Tomahawk ribeye for two which cost $89. I ordered it as medium rare and it came out well done. We asked for it to be replaced which they gladly did but then vastly overcompensated by bringing out a steak that was rare. In fact parts of it were raw. Maybe it was just an off night for them but it was just a mess.
The food is always fantastic here, the staff is friendly and the service is outstanding most of the time. This particular visit I only marked very good instead of outstanding as our waiter did not follow-up with us as much as they had on all our previous visits.
Was delighted to be able to eat at Roy's while in the Anaheim area. The restaurant is beautiful, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was fantastic and Melissa was a wonderful server that made our evening very memorable. Always love eating at Roy's when there is one where we travel. Great treat!
I’ve given this restaurant chain many chances to turn their service around, but they have consistently failed to deliver! Food is not consistent in flavor from location to location and service is extremely slow. I’ve hosted events at this exact restaurant, the most important one being my wedding rehearsal dinner, and they have continued to show extremely disappointing levels of service .
Our waitress only checked on us twice the entire 2.5 hours we dined in. There was at least 4 different employees (none of them our waitress) who brought our entrees and/or checked on us and cleared dirty plates. The food for my son was not hot when it came out AND I had to ask the wait staff to 1) pack my dinner to go and 2) bring my check. When the waitress finally decided to show up, it took an additional 15-20 minutes for her to run my credit card and close out my bill. For anyone with a young child who just sat for 2.5 hours to have dinner, this feels like an eternity but there was no sense of urgency at all.
Overall, the tomahawk steak was mediocre and the service was delayed and disappointing. I am not a fan of poor service and will not be recommending to friends or family.
Aloha hour in the bar is the way to go! Ask for the seared ahi appitzer portion - same as the dinner but appetizer portion and it's awesome! Great, clean and fresh! I go every time I'm in Anaheim ... sometimes twice! Food, service better than other Roys I've been to. Only draw back: no edamame here.
