Royal Thai Cuisine & Bar Ratings and Reviews
This is a great place for lunch. The food is excellent, the service is fabulous and did I mention the food is great? I frequently meet friends here for lunch. We can have a nice meal for two for $25 (including Thai iced tea) with excellent, unobtrusive service and a nice ambience. It's quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting and the staff are friendly. I especially like the Wonsoon noodles with chicken and the mango chicken, but they have a wide array of vegetarian meals as well.
This restaurant is like a hidden gem. The entrance looks small but they have a lot of space on the second floor. We got our own private room for a group of 20 and had a wonderful time. The staff are super friendly and very nice. Food is very good with reasonable prices. Highly recommend this place!
My husband felt like Thai for a late night dinner when visiting Washington D.C. We found Royal Thai by the reviews but food didn't quite live up to the better reviews. Tom Kha soup had good flavor as did the Chicken Satay but the Spring Rolls and Pad Thai were very bland.
This was our second visit to Royal Thai. We live an hour away from D.C. and our first visit came before a Caps' game. When we knew we were returning to D.C. this weekend, even though it would be out of the way and a time squeeze, we knew that we wanted to return. Our very favorable recollection of the deliciousness of the food was definitely confirmed. We enjoyed the veggie spring rolls, fried green beans, and other delicious dishes that I can't spell :). My husband and I agreed we'd probably drive to D.C. just to come here.
Royal Thai was able to accommodate our work happy hour very nicely! The flow of apps and drinks for our large party was great and we didn't have to pay upfront for a pre-fixed menu, etc.
Highly recommend the space upstairs for work type happy hour events of 15 ish people.
Food was terrible. The broccoli looked and tasted old. My wife's pad Thai had a strange aroma to it. Food sizes are generous, but I wouldn't want to eat everything on the plate. Staff were rude and we're visibly unimpressed that we didn't order drinks. If you have ever eaten Thai food before you will be very underwhelmed by the food here.
This was my first visit and Thai food is one of my favorite types so I was ready for a great meal since this is in DC's "Chinatown" area with a lot of different Asian restaurants. While it has a very diverse menu, my "go to" appetizer, the spicy beef salad (Nam Tok) was very disappointing here - dried out meat and barely any marinade. We left about a third of it. The Duck Rolls were great, though, like a Peking Duck burrito. The main courses were average but not very spicy at all and we were not asked how we wanted it, nor was an additional chili sauce made available. The broccoli in my lemongrass chicken was barely cooked and so hard to chew. The service was really why I downgraded this review. The waitress brought our main courses while we were only half-way through appetizers and we were on a small "two top" table, so there was really no room for everything. She ended up taking away our water just to have room for the plates. Then she gave no spoons to serve up the main courses or get any sauce. It was 15 minutes before I could get another server to bring spoons and by then the dishes were cold. I won't be back!
Dropped in after a lecture on Southeast Asian archeology at the Smithsonian. Was disappointed that my favorite appetizer -- Nham Sod (spicy minced pork) -- wasn't on the menu but enjoyed the papaya salad. Followed that with the pork version of the spicy rice. She got the spicy mango shrimp salad and Drunken Noodles. The latter had too much Thai basil in it, but otherwise everything was very tasty. We may return to Royal Thai for a late dinner.
The table size is way too small for 2 people for dinner. Besides the table top surface was not at level. You have to ask for spoon or knife. They only give you fork. Hard to cut vegetable with fork. Good food. Excellent choice for vegetarians. My wife and I loved the food and the nice service. Noise level was way too high because of loud conversations in an adjacent table. Not much space between tables.
I made a reservation for a large group, and I was able to call ahead and order the food. The food was really tasty, and the server was nice. However, our entrees took forever to arrive even though I had called ahead of time. I think the food may have been ready, but our server was confused. She was still very kind and polite, but perhaps confused or overwhelmed. The restaurant was very accommodating and understanding when our party was much larger than expected. Thank you to Royal Thai Cuisine for making our event great. I will definitely be back and would recommend this place for large groups.
We were down in D.C. for a Caps game. Had done online research for restaurants in the vicinity of the Verizon Center. Royal Thai had great reviews, and my husband and I love Thai food. The food was incredible! We loved everything we ordered appetizers and entrees - only problem is that we were so full that we just wanted to take a nap! Wish this restaurant was a little closer to our home in Towson, MD. Would definitely head back down to D.C. for another visit to this wonderful restaurant.
I love their spicy talapia! Nice sized portion, good heat, cooked perfectly!
Every time I go, there seems to be a REALLY noisy group downstairs where we're sitting. This time, there were 3 people at the bar who were screaming with laughter - very out of place in such an otherwise quiet restaurant. I wish the staff would have asked them to keep their noise level down, but I know that's a tough call. Last time, there was a group of 5-6 people sitting behind us watching YouTube videos at top volume!! So rude!
But I love the food & the staff is INCREDIBLY attentive (sometimes a bit over the top), so I'll continue to go back & just leave when the noise level gets out of hand.
We were searching for a Thai restaurant with authentic and interesting dishes. We love massaman curry dishes and this one did not disappoint! The drinks were half off between 6-8pm with an entrée too! Crispy tilapia was delicious and would definitely come back!!!
We needed a place to hold a party of 19 with little advance warning. The people at Royal Thai were able to give us a private room and served a great meal. All present were pleased with the service and the food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to hold a meeting dinner.
First they couldn't find our reservation, once seated they took our drink order right away but didn't bring them for another 20 minutes. They wanted to take our food order right away, seemed to hurry us. The appetizers came in 20 minutes, not bad, but by this time we had been sitting for about 40 minutes. The food finally came after we had been seated for an hour. The food was good taste wise but cold. No one came to check on us throughout the meal. Once we asked for the check, they were pronto in bringing it and getting us out of there. I think they were short of staff, seemed food sat in the kitchen for good 20 min. Overall, wont return
