This place is good for take out only. Maybe good for lunch, but most definitely not for dinner. They make you pay upfront for your order. Kind of food court mall style
Our party of four really enjoyed our meal and the service was very attentive. They recently instituted a system where you have place your order, pay for it and THEN they will bring it too the table. When we decided to have another round of cold drinks to wash down the delicious food it meant another round of pulling out the credit cards in the middle of the meal. It seems a little awkward.
Delicious!! The garlic naan and samosas were the best I've ever had!! My curry was a bit watery but still quite good. Overall great experience, we'd definitely go again.
Delicious curries and great service. Our server was very helpful to suggest menu items.
Royal Ganesha never fails to deliver best Indian food, absolutely great value for money. The service was friendly, the server was very professional and nice. Amazing experience from entering to leaving the restaurant, as it always has been for us.
We really enjoyed dinner at royalganesha. food was up to the mark. we tried the onion bhajia, chicken tikka masala, dal makhani and best garlic naan i ever had. service was very welcoming and friendly. Cant say enough.
My boyfriend recommended me royalganesha, we really enjoyed our Dinner here. The restaurant itself is pretty and the service was friendly and warm. The food was good, fresh garlic naan and the curries were tasty. This is a good Indian option in the Downtown.
The restaurant was quiet, cozy, beautiful colourful environment, it makes us feel warm and calm. Thank you. The food also were delicious. More and more people are becoming vegan and vegetarian. In next five years, there will be around 60 percent of population will become vegetarian/vegan.
This place has the potential of being a true gem for it's ambiance and great service . And, although the Samosas were quite delicious , as well as the butter chicken , I had to wonder whether the food was freshly made. All because of hearing the constant noise of the microwave going in the background.
Best indian food with attentive service. Enjoyed Tandoori chicken and Veg Biryani.
My friend recommended Royal Ganesha to me and i went for Dinner with my family and restaurant was full. I really loved the decor and the food was top class and service was also awesome. Definitely recommend !
Food was really good and service was great. Close to work so I'll be back for lunch again.
I totally loved the ambiance and food of this place. The place is neat and things are organized. Our server was very friendly and kind. She was very attentive and makes sure we were well taken care of. The food at Royal Ganesha is amazing .We enjoyed the Butter Chicken, Veg samosa`s, Chicken Tikka Masala (i think the best i ever had) and garlic naan. This is the only place I would recommend for some awesome Indian food.
Our Christmas dinner.
Royal Genesha offered a "Special Buffet" served on Dec 25th. (same special is advertised for Dec 31st and Jan 1st.)
"Special Price $24.95 per Adult" 3 Adults (Daily Regular Price $19.99)
I picked this restaurant through open table as they had availability. There was not a lot of choices left. So after reading a few reviews I thought we would give it a try.
What we were expecting; the basic staples of an East Indian buffet, butter Chicken, pakoras etc.
What we saw in the buffet;
Fish curry, Chicken curry, vegetable dish, daal, chick peas, chicken wings, lettuce leaves, spinach paneer. and sauces, which were not labelled! My son put a dark balsamic type of sauce all over his salad. It was very hot. Please label your sauces.
There was no butter chicken, no samosas, no pakoras, no beef, or lamb dishes. Naan bread was there but not made to order.
To get butter chicken and samosa's you have to order off the main menu, full price. To me that is not a "special". And on Chrismas Day?
There are SO MANY better Indian restaurants that welcome you with open arms and serve you fresh hot naan at your table. This place will charge you for dishes that you should expect at a buffet. They are doing it all wrong.
As well when I asked to see the wine list, the waiter said they cannot serve alcohol or they could get fined thousands of dollars.
*sigh* Wish they would mention " NO ALCOHOL CAN BE SERVED ON HOLIDAYS" on their website.
what was good;
chicken wings, spinach paneer, chickpeas, Mango drink Expensive tho & $4.50
If there was a roast leg of lamb, tender butter chicken, hot samosa's and hot naan served to the table, that would have been "special"
Felt like they are not truly there for the customer.
Also note on their website. "LEFTOVER FOOD DURING LUNCH BUFFET WILL BE CHARGED $10.00" I understand that it may be annoying to throw out a bit of food, but c'mon.
We went straight home and had a nice big glass of wine!
Great food and the service was great - would defiantly go back All the reviews I read were totally accurate. Small and cozy atmosphere. Authentic Indian food. Good find in Calgary
Now our favorite Indian restaurant - a small but exactly right menu that doesn't overwhelm like most massive menus. The appetizer platter with pakoras, samosas and fried paneer was piping hot and so fresh tasting. Lamb Korma and the best dal with coconut rice we've ever had - spiced just right. The service was friendly and thoughtful, making for a wonderful dinner. We'll definitely return!
Awesome place. Must visit. Great service in least costs...
Picked this as a last minute Valentines diner reservation, what a delight, great food, nice atmosphere and an interesting setting there was a slight problem with the samosas but the staff was able to deal with a kitchen problem and all in all it was a great meal. Since then we've been back for our daughters birthday and the service was even better with the same great food. We've found a new favorite Indian restaurant.
Very tasty food but took a little while. The place was a bit cramped and the tables were close together so we could hear the other customers pretty clearly.
We went for valentine's day, and neither of us had been there before, so we went in with open minds and no specific expectations. The layout of the restaurant is unique, being built in an old renovated house. We found the ambiance to be charming and perfectly romantic for such an evening. It was also much less busy than I would have expected for such an evening, making for a nice quiet diving experience. The food was okay, not the best Indian food I've ever had but certainly far from the worst. Prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent - friendly and attentive. Overall I recommend this place if you are looking for something new.
My husband and I enjoyed the food, atmosphere and especially the service. If you are in the mood for a quiet dinner with excellent food check out Royal Ganesha.
After reading several reviews we decided to try Royal Ganesha. I was impressed the minute we walked in; very good smell and welcoming area and server. We enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back. My only disappointment is parking, but that is common in Calgary. Overall, very happy to finally find an Indian restaurant to out taste.
What a wonderful experience. I've eaten at many of the good indian restaurants in town, (Mango Shiva, Moti Mahal, Raj Palace) and this tops them all. Extemely good food and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was very nice and very personal service. We'll definitely be back!
First time dined here, and I was really impressed, with the service-wise, and taste-wise. Everything was awesome and outstanding server,
We hadn't been for Indian food in awhile and chose Royal Ganesha based on its availability and the reviews on Open Table. The restaurant is easy to find in the west end of downtown Calgary, located among the many high-rise condos in an old (presumably) house. The renovations inside have been done quite well, giving the restaurant an overall cozy, appealing feel.
Our waiter was very friendly and offered advice on the food and drink pairings. We were seated on the upper level on a mezzanine that was open to below - the small group below us was quite loud and their conversation reverberating up to us very easily. This was the only nuance of the night.
We ordered our food, two vegetarian dishes and two chicken dishes, with a medium spice; all arrived rather quickly and looked amazing. The vegetarian dishes were spiced as expected but we did find the butter chicken and chicken curry milder (which is likely when they seemed to be both cream/milk based). Everything tasted so good, it was hard to stop!
I would definitely go to Royal Genesha again! It's a lovely restaurant with great staff.
We were looking for a restaurant on Christmas Eve and came upon Royal Ganesh! What a great neighbourhood find! The service was amazing and the staff had plenty to recommend. Authentically Indian, this restaurant is definitely a place I would return to.
We started off with the veggie samosas -- they're huge and filled with so much yummy filling! For dinner we had the veggie Korma and the chicken curry! Both were perfectly seasoned and spiced (you can choose your own spice level).
Have had Indian food in the past, but am no expert. The staff had great recommendations. Evertything was spectacular.
We gave Royal Ganesha a try prior to a Flames game and they did not disappoint. The food was well prepared, flavourful and right at the perfect spice level. (Spicy Hot) The lamb vindaloo was tender and painfully good. The vegetarian dishes we also spot on. We also had the luxury of an Baingan Bharta, not on the menu, (Although it should be) and it was the best I've had.
We will return.
My wife and I went for Friday dinner, best East Indian food we had in Calgary. Great service, answered every question we had, helped us chose from their menu, food was outstanding, we will be back with our entire family.
Royal Ganesha was an amazing gem hidden in a historic 1910 residence that has been converted into a restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly, polite and knowledgable. The food took approximately 25 minutes to arrive. Our waiter had warned us that it may take some time as our dishes were being created from scratch. The atmosphere was pleasant with the restaurant being divided into small rooms based in the design of the house.
The food was delicious with an amazing blend of spices. It was well worth the wait. The price was very reasonable ($50 for two main dishes, an appetizer and two alcoholic drinks). We wIll be returning.
Came down to Calgary to visit my daughter in her new condo. Wanted to find a nice restaurant to celebrate with her. The Royal Ganesha was within sight from her downtown condo. We decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. Though not of Indian descent, I have travelled through India quite extensively. The food was surely not a disappointment. The menu was clear with recognizable favourite foods.
We had, fish tikka, butter chicken, shrimp masala, vegetarian briyani rice, vegetarian samosa's and garlic nan bread.
Each of us thoroughly enjoyed the main dishes and sides.
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone craving a meal with a true Indian flavour explosion!!
I dined here on a Sunday evening. We arrived and were greeted right away. Usually in Indian restaurants, the menus are never ending. For myself (of Indian background), that is not a concern, but my guest was somewhat new to Indian restaurants, so for this reason, I liked the smaller menu.
We ordered an appetizer (beef samosas), beef korma, channa masala (chick pea curry) and Gulab Jamun for dessert. The server stated that the appetizer would be out in 10 minutes and the food should be 10 minutes after the appetizers come out. I really appreciate that level of customer service.
We asked for it mild and it was just that. It was cooked perfectly and the beef was tender. The gulab jamun was very soft & delicious. I would recommend this place.
Very good service - very good food - lamb vindaloo was tasty - onion Bahji tasty -
