At The Chateau Louis we strive to provide the freshest top quality products available. Our beef is Alberta Triple A, the wild sockeye salmon is from B.C. , the lamb is local Alberta. All sauces, salad dressings and desserts are freshly made in the hotel kitchen.

Running a gluten free kitchen can be tiring so our son suggested dinner out at Chateau Louis's Saturday gf prime rib buffet. His enjoyment in being able to choose his food without worry would have been worth the cost no matter what the quality but every dish was expertly prepared. The beef, fish and chicken were moist and tender and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. The selections were not inventive but all were tasty; imagine the best home cooking you have had. As for the previous comments regarding the dated ambiance, when the food is this good no one is thinking about decor. My only suggestion would be to turn down the music but overall I would be happy to go back - especially as my highly sensitive celiac son had no reactions.
We were here for family dinner for the Gluten-Free Saturday night buffet. The food was plentiful, freshly prepared and well presented. It was such a treat to be able to eat any dessert on the table without having to worry about the ingredients. I've found it difficult to find good tasting desserts that are gluten-free in Edmonton, but this buffet would be the place to go- all made from scratch! The 3 other in my party did not have gluten allergies but they enjoyed their meals just the same as the flavours were outstanding, and the prime rib made to perfection. The chef had also prepared a poultry and seafood selection too. Kudos to the servers and staff, who were attentive and always ensured our waters and coffee was replenished. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and look forward to returning soon!
I was recommended this resturant for the Saturday evening gluten free Buffet. I have celiac disease, my husband does not. We both found the food amazing. I was so appreciative to have a meal without worrying about what I was eating. The prime rib ,the shrimp risotto and the almond torte were the favourites.
The place is dated and the resturant isn't fancy to look at but since we were there for gluten free Buffet, it didn't matter.
Went for the gluten-free prime rib buffet. Last Saturday of every month. Food was very good. The prime rib was very good. The deserts were awesome and all gluten free. It was great to go to a buffet and not have to be concerned and ask a lot of questions to ensure something was gluten free. It was ALL gluten free. Thanks Chef Lorne! We'll be back.
We have had brunch before at the Chateau Louis and it has always been excellent. The food is well prepared and always freshly made. However, things were not great on Father's Day. It seems that they were not ready for the number of people that came for brunch that day. There were huge lineups, and items were not always replenished as quickly as they were eaten, which made the long lineups even more frustrating.
The worst part was that we had to wait a very long time to get and pay our bill, while at the same time we were being rushed out because another party was waiting for the table. Over all, a frustrating experience.
We went to the Father's Day Brunch. There was some confusion about the reservations and what time the brunch opened but the management cleared it up a few days ahead of our reservation. The brunch was good. The food was fresh and the buffet itself was clean and well organized. We found the dining tables too close together but considering it was a special day we understood. The staff were attentive and polite. The only suggestion for improvement would be the location and performance of the waffle and omelette station. It ran out of waffles in the first 15 minutes so people had to wait. This meant a long line that wound past all the tables close to this station. It was very difficult to get around this line to go to the buffet. People were nice and did their best to make room but with two of our group being 86 and 91 it was challenging. Overall we had a good time and will go again.
This is the one Saturday evening buffet in all of the Edmonton area where myself, my husband & our granddaughter (all 3 of us have wheat allergies), can be certain it is safe to dine & not get cross-contamination of items containing wheat. It is so refreshing to be able to select anything on the gluten free buffet. Our granddaughter is 12 & she loves the fact that she can try every dessert, instead of being limited to only 1 or 2. Other places we still pay full price for a buffet, but can only choose a few items and even then need to worry that some other patron used the wrong spoon and then we will get sick. The buffet menu is always awesome with a variety of selections.
We also love the Sunday brunch. While brunch is not gluten free, there is always a decent selection of items we can choose from and the staff is always very accommodating in bringing us items from the kitchen to ensure it has not been cross-contaminated.
We went for the Easter Dinner Buffet, and we were not disappointed with the food, it was very good. Service was timed perfectly for drinks and plate clearing.
Although I booked a reservation, we were seated in the piano bar at a booth and the ambiance was lost for this dinner with the TVs and rowdy bar crowd. It was not the experience I wanted for my parents.
I would return again, just request the buffet room for seating.
The Royal Coach Dining room and the adjacent Julie's Piano Bar sounded really interesting, so we tried it out. The restaurant had a buffet night and this was a bit disappointing, everything was edible and OK prepared, but that's it. Nothing special. In fact, I have had better buffets (for less prize). They tried to make a gluten-free desert bar- this didn't work at all, since this reduced the desert pallet to sweet, sweeter, too sweet. It might be better to have some - well signed - gluten free dishes and some "normal" dishes.
The Piano-man in the Piano Bar was, good; actually, he was the best part of the evening (besides my partner ;-)

Way overpriced! It was 0700 pm and half of the Desert was gone already. Nobody refilled it! When I wanted some of the Primerib, I had to wait till someone had time to come over and slice me some. Small Buffet! Not much choice! $33 for this was NOT worth it at all. Then $3 for a small cup of instant coffee that dud even taste like coffee! NEVER AGAIN!!!!
I should have gone to River Cree, way better food for my money!
We went to the Friday night Italian Buffet. The selection was great and the quality wonderful. The Chef was at a cooking station where he would make a pasta dish out of you selection of 70 items. I asked him to choose for me and it was sooooo tasty.
There was an accordian player in the corner. At first it was charming then it was too loud, and it would have been nice to have had a break from it.
The staff was very attentive and friendly and eager to please.
Was very disappointed in our recent visit. We have been there before and were looking forward to brunch. We arrived for 1045. The food was cool to lukewarm. The cherry tomatoes were shriveled up and looked horrible. The omelet and waffle station was one of the few things that made the meal edible. Definitely NOT worth the money we spent for a party of eight.
Royal Coach dining room is a trip back in time. The quality of food and value are wonderful!
The staff is attentive and personable. The desserts are the downfall- they are too good!

Overall it was a great dining experience. Food arrived quickly, hot and was served with a smile and pleasant attitude. Making reservations was easy and even easier to modify. Will definitely consider Chateau Louis again when looking for a group dining experience.
We had a family get together, at the Chateau Louis on Saturday evening. It was the evening they have a gluten free buffet (last Saturday of the month). The food quality and variety was excellent, the service was excellent as well (Helen was our server). We had our meal early, and were surprised how few people were actually there. I think if more people knew about the gluten free buffet, it would be much busier. We have been to the Sunday brunch buffet many times, and it can be very busy, as the food is great for that buffet as well.
The food is great. However, our server who was a white girl always pushed me to pay the bill and leave.I told her that my kid was sleeping and she hasn't started to eat yet. Then, the waitress still brought in the bill and asked us to pay first. Anyway, then I paid.The buffet didn't have time limit on it. I don't know why the waitress still pushed us to pay and wanted us to leave after one hour of dinner. But we didn't leave. We stayed for longer time and waited for my kid to finish her meal.
I have had the brunch buffet before and I found that this experience did not meet up with the previous one. We had an 11:30 reservation, but they didn't have a table ready at that time and we had a short wait to be seated. The selection of food on the buffet was good, but not all that flavorful. The shrimp were bland and tasteless, the eggs Benedict were cold and overcooked and the layout of the buffet did not allow for a smooth flow.
The food was wonderful, the service was excellent, all staff were friendly and cheerful. My daughters loved the artwork on the wall, both are big into history. All mothers enjoyed the brunch, it was well laid out and organized. Carnations for the mothers was a nice touch!
This restaurant is located within the Chateau Louis hotel and has a definite retro French décor. With dark blue and cream colors and a great mural, our kids were awed. We were there for a Saturday night carved roast beef buffet that included roast lamb, fish and pasta. It did not disappoint. The staff were attentive and the food was regularly replenished. The chef was on hand to carve the perfectly cooked prime rib and the gravy was tasty. We will definitely be coming back!!
The atmosphere was nice and quiet and relaxed when we arrived however shortly after due to a function in the far corner of the room, it became a huge steady stream of people coming and going while passing right through or right by where the buffet was set up, I like buffets, but I think only the people who are dining at that particular buffet should be allowed in or around all of the buffet food that is set out. That was not the case this particular evening, something should be done about how the people using the far end area for their own private buffet, come and go, like maybe making a different access route to it or something!
