Good food Possibly shortly staffed however the bartender was our waiter maintained a pleasant disposition and was excited about the menu items.
Dinner for my husband's birthday was first rate. He had Norwegian salmon and I had Pork Carnita ravioli with a butternut squash light sauce. We also had the pea soup, which was incredible. This place never misses the mark, it is always great.
We had a fabulous dinner at Rowland. There were five of us and everyone’s entree was outstanding and service was great! It was a Monday evening so probably quieter than usual but that made it even more enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back.
The Joe Chop and the Rockfish are spectacular! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and make all guests feel very welcome. Still one of Richmond's Bests!
Rowland Restaurant was a wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere was very welcoming and warm as the waitstaff greeted us and mentioned our special occasion, an anniversary. The menu was clear and easy to understand, with many delectable options. The fresh bread was so delicious with the garlic dipping oil. We ordered 2 starters which were a nice size to share! The dinners came with a lovely salad with homemade dressing and both entrees were delightfully delicious. Wes, our waiter provided prompt, but relaxing service; we never felt rushed. I will definitely be coming back to Rowland with family and friends in the future!
First time here and it exceeded our expectations. Small intimate restaurant full of what appeared to be a lot of repeat patrons. Owners came out of kitchen to talk to several tables.
Food was fantastic, my pork chop was the best I have ever had.
Highly recommend this restaurant
Still one of Richmond's best restaurants. Located in the "fan", Virginia and Bruce Rowland have been "putting out" great food for years. Bruce's signature dish, "Joe Chop" has been on the menu for years and it is there for a reason. It is really good!!!!
Rowland continues to be one of the best restaurants in Richmond....and these days that is no small feat! wonderful menu options, delicious nightly specials. Rowland offers a great dining experience and if you try it once, you WILL be back!
Very happy with the food and service. They did a great job.
I ordered the steak, and it was just ok, not great. My husband’s rockfish, however, was delicious. The bananas foster had no ice cream in it , only cream, which was disppointing since it was $10!!
Excelent food, service. Always everything is perfectly serve, savory and perfect.
Kudos to the Chefs.
Sadly, we were not happy with our last meal at Rowland. We have enjoyed it for years and always rave about it to others. Our meal on March 6 was not a good experience. There was only one server for the entire restaurant. This server was also the bartender. He was unfamiliar with much of the menu (bar items and food). He made a Cosmo that tasted terrible and he served it in a highball glass witha straw. When we asked about this, he said it can be served that way. Never have I seen it served like that nor have I tasted a cosmo that lacked any flavor. It was awful. He also could not tell us what bourbons were available. He brought each item on every single course to the wrong diner. It was so dark at our seat that I ended up eating my guest's fish entree and she ate mine- we could not see which entree had a curry sauce on it due to the lack of light. (The server told us he did not know how to turn the lights on in the back). The food tasted good but it was not enough to overcome TERRIBLE service. Sorry to say we will not recommend Rowland anymore nor will we return. It really was a favorite in the past but no more.
Quite a little gem in the neighborhood! It was Monday night
and very few diners but delicious cuisine, interesting menu
and lovely server, Madeline who was right on task. Definitely
Great food! Got the pork chop and sat at the bar..
Yummy and very friendly and attentive server. Pizza was very good.
Service was super slow- food was meh. Been there many times over the years. I have to say was really disappointed with this experience. Usually it’s been good, not this time.
Good food as always; but service on Saturday night very lacking. Took 45 minutes to get appetizers. Very noisy!
Food was good. Our only issue was we couldn't be seated until 45 minutes after our reserved time. The staff was very nice about it, was just a little off putting. The space is very small so I highly recommend reservations and be prepared to wait if it is a busy night. Some people may sit and chat too long delaying your table seating on time. NOT a good restaurant for vegetarians. Meat in basically every dish and a lot of pork as well. Fine with me, but my friend didnt eat port and her only option was the filet.
My group of four all enjoyed their meals—the butter bean cake is fabulous. Very busy Friday night so service was a bit slow. Waitress lovely and hard working
The menu on Open Table said there was a Hanger Steak, but there wasn't (always check the restaurant website!). I had tenderloin, my spouse had lamb sliders and pork carnitas ravioli. Everything was were excellent.
Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The food was good. A couple of us had the pork chop encrusted in pecan. I noted that seasoning was seemingly not used with the calamari and chop meat, but the ginger cream sauce on arugula (with calamari) and the chop's pecan crust had nice flavoring. Healthier with less salt, just not used to it. It was a nice atmosphere and good to be able to have conversation without having to yell. I would recommend for small or intimate gatherings.
What a gem of a find...excellent meal and beautifully presented. Loved the setting and appreciate the owner coming to our table. Will be back soon.
Wonderful meal, service occasionally slow, but busy night and our server kept handling new patrons checking into reservations.
Bought a boat
Staff not organized, didn’t sit until 20 minutes after reservation, waiter a bit distracted, food took a long time
Great food, but the valentine's day prices made it a very poor value. Go on the other 364 days of the year!
Dined on Valentine's Day with the special menu. Ordered off of special menu for the occasion. Ordered a variety of foods and everyone was happy with their meals. I had a steak, which was okay - not the best that I have had, but I give them some benefit of the doubt given the evening and the crowd in the restaurant. Will try them again on a non-"holiday" occasion as I hear this is a fantastic place to dine.
Valentine's dinner. Excellent food.
Relaxed environment, friendly staff and a very nice meal. Was a great way to enjoy a rainy Saturday evening in Richmond.
Chef Virginia is always be amazing. Her passion and unique style of flavors come out in every meal she puts out. Highly recommend to anyone looking a night out on the town.
Food is okay, but not great and not seasonal. Would be better if menu were adjusted for seasons so food tasted fresh and innovative.
Had not been in years. Had an early reservation and it was almost empty when we arrived but quickly filled up. Never too noisy. Both had Rockfish and was delicious!
Our favorite place in all of Richmond!!! Great food and we always feel at home here.
This was our second experience @ Rowland. We enjoy trying new places, but I didn’t want to take a chance on our seventh anniversary. Rowland did not disappoint. We arrived early and were sat immediately. Our server was prompt with the drink order as well as telling us the daily specials. We started with the calamari. It was fresh and served in a plate of fresh salad greens and a dressing. Delicious. I had the potato leek soup and the shrimp and grits. The soup was a healthy portion and smooth. Great on s cold rainy night. The shrimp and grits did not disappoint either. They were a little spicy. Right up my alley. My wife had the beef tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly and served with a potato croquet and asparagus. She raved. All in all. Another outstanding experience. My only negative (and it’s not a biggie) would have been the fusion music playing in the background. The style of Rowland deserves a Miles Davis playlist. Or some light jazz.
Everything about our evening was great! Food, service, atmosphere. There were a lot of good choices on the menu: light and not so light. Rockfish was great! We will certainly be back soon!
Quiet enough to hear each other, but loud enough so you aren't part of the conversation next to you. And the food was AMAZING!
It had been several years since I had been to Rowland for dinner and it hasn’t lost a step. Food was delicious. Service was great. We had the duck and the mahi mahi and both were fantastic. Definitely will make return visits to Rowland.
Always consistently good, Great diverse selection and priced appropriately.
Not to mention it in a good location. Go you'll like it mikey
Our out of town "foodie" guest was blown away by Rowland's Fish special of the day. Great food, festive atmosphere....a true Richmond Gem!
Lamb sliders and fish tacos
We're delicious. Been filet cooked perfectly nicely split for 2
