The food, service and everything else was amazing. Such a nice spot in the middle of a housing area. Street parking was fairly easy and free (just find the spot). Felt like a safe area. The Joe Chop was GREAT!!

Food was mediocre-to-good which wasn't great considering the price involved. The drinks were lackluster. The service was decent. The ambiance was nice...though the place could use a refresh in art & decor. Given the great number of other options in Richmond I probably wouldn't go back.

Rowland did an outstanding job with this year's fall restaurant week. I thoroughly enjoyed all three courses and will be going back again. Ended up arriving 15 minutes early. The staff was very accommodating and sitter nice.

Restaurant week fall 2017: 2 of us. Service and drinks were very good. Quiet dark inside. Partner ordered mumbo gumbo starter and I peking duck. Both excellent for taste and quality of ingredients and amount. Entrees: blackened shrimp bratwurst... and feta brined chicken... Only 2 shrimp for partner entree and tiniest spot of grits and the "half" chicken in mine was the tiniest half chicken I have witnessed. It would have fit inside a medium sized mug. Not exaggerating! It had breast-wing-drumstick but was a miniature version of a small chicken. Very disappointing. Tasted fine what little there was to taste. Not expecting huge but very surprised at the tiny size.

Frankly, in my recent travels to Richmond I've been very disappointed in the overall quality of the restaurant scene. Rowland's was okay. Our server was attentive and professional. The food was good but not great. We ordered the pork chop smothered in some kind of apple coating--it was good but not great. The rockfish was good but not great. There have to be better restaurants than this, and, of course, much worse. We will give it another try but I have become a food snob and Rowland's is what it is--it is NOT a gourmet dining experience but more of a comfort-food extraordinaire spot. If you are looking for solid food (not great) and ample portions, go here. It's quiet, cozy, and the service is good. This was more like eating at my grandmother's house.

This was our first occasion dining at Rowland. From the moment we walked through the door until the presentation of the check, everything was above par. We started with the cheese and charcuterie plate. A thoughtful ensemble of cheese, meat, & pickled veggies. Absolutely delicious. We each had a salad with the creamy ginger dressing. It was light and flavorful. I had the blackened rockfish etoufee. Quite flavorful and rivaled the best cuisine I've enjoyed in the French quarter. All in all...2 thumbs up. We will be back.

Rowland is a consistently solid option amidst the trends in RVA's dining scene. The food is delicious and the servers can connect you with the right wine, if that's your thing.

We made an early reservation to be able to attend the theater afterwards and we were greeted at the door by name by our server upon arrival. Elizabeth assured us that she would make every effort to get us out in time for the performance and she quickly told us about the specials and took our orders quickly but without our feeling rushed. The meal was delicious. My husband enjoyed perfectly cooked lamb chops and I had a lovely piece of rockfish over mussels and veggies. We easily enjoyed out meal and make it to the theater. The restaurant is close quarters and we were happy to be able to enjoy a less crowded restaurant. Great experience!

The butterbean cake appetizer is the best. My only suggestion is a little more lighting. I thought it was a bit dark.

So disappointing! I have dined here many times and always been so happy with the food and service. It was a holiday weekend so maybe they were just off their game The chef was there but spent the entire time chatting and drinking with customers at a table and behind the bar and never went to the kitchen while we were there for two hours. The courses came out in a really weird order, with very little attention from waiter, Even the usually incredibly delish bread was sub par this night. Oh well...will not give up but will definitely wait a long while before returning.

A 10 minute walk from our Airbnb. Empty, we were the only diners on a Monday night. Very interesting menu. I had the blackened chicken. My spouse had the Red snapper special. Both very good although a bit too salty.

We live in the Fan and Rowland has become one of our "go to" places when we are entertaining friends. We find the food to be consistently good, a fine list of cocktails are available, and you can carry on a normal conversation. Service is always great.

Made a reservation at 8:45 for 9:15 on a Friday night; was happy to get it and looking forward to going! Received a call about 9:00 saying that the night had been slow for them and that the kitchen was closed...too bad, and back to square one.

Always a delight to go to Rowland's. The food is always fresh and interesting.

This time we had the mussels with curry. Distinctive and delicious. The chef adds a touch of his own flair to create a specal and unique taste. Dinner was the cod and the blackened red snapper. Both perfectly cooked and the Brie polenta is light but decadent. Didn't have them this time which is a first but the local oysters are always amazing. Tried the Orin Swift Abstract red blend. Give it a try. Smooth and opens up nicely.

Rowland still remains one of the growing Richmond's restaurant scene's best restaurant. Many people swear there the no better fish preparation in the area! Chef Virginia will only serve what is available on a super fresh basis. The menu can also be very healthy, for those of us on a limited diet!

Thanks Rowland! keep up the fantastic work! :)

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Richmond. It is in our frequent rotation. The food is fantastic and very interesting. We are always very pleased with whatever we order as the menu changes. In the last visit the blackened chicken was delicious and juicy with wonderful flavor. I always get the Bananas Foster for dessert, it is a mind blower.
