Great food, nice variety, friendly and personal staff and service. Delicious food, simply and well prepared. Reasonable prices (entrees include a nice green salad and bread). You will not be sorry!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Richmond. It is in our frequent rotation. The food is fantastic and very interesting. We are always very pleased with whatever we order as the menu changes. In the last visit the blackened chicken was delicious and juicy with wonderful flavor. I always get the Bananas Foster for dessert, it is a mind blower.
A fine place - classic Fan restaurant - a bit tight but excellent food and very good vibe. We walked here (across several blocks ) with some of our best friends and truly enjoyed it.
Mothers Day lunch was fabulous. Fantastic menu, delicious food, everyone enjoyed!! Will definitely be going back.
Superb... One of our long-time very favorites ...-Richmond's best kept secret ... Hidden gem! Chefs are amazing! Extremely relaxing. Excellent service.
It was simply great as always. We have been coming here for a number of years and the food is always consistent with such a great atmosphere.
Another excellent meal at Rowland. A real neighborhood gem. If you are a foodie and you haven't eaten here you really need to try it!
Rowland was a magnificent. Food was incredible. Service was attentive and courteous. Close to The Altria Theater.
Oh! Do not pass on the bread. Melt in your mouth heaven.
Wonderful wait staff...said "Hi Girls",,,,,when my friend and I, both in our seventies, sat down. Food was fabulous,,,oysters, flank steak, poached pear. Can't wait to go back!!!
Consistently excellent food - and good service
Sat. night dinner with 6 out of town friends celebrating a special birthday for us this year. The staff at the Rowland made us feel so welcomed-our waiter Nick was attentive and very cordial. Our food was phenomenal-everyone enjoyed their meals. I had arranged earlier in the week for Virginia (owner and pastry chef) to make a birthday cake for us which was a surprise to everyone else. They really pulled it off -was delicious and Virginia then came out to greet us. Really a special evening-beautiful restaurant, great service, awesome food.
Such a terrific meal - rockfish special was amazing and pork chop rocked. Service was friendly and helpful. Love this neighborhood gem even if it's not my hood. Well worth the trip to the Fan.
We always enjoy dining at Rowland's. The food is always very good and the service is very attentive.
One of my fave places to celebrate friends' birthdays.
We made a last minute decision to eat out on a Monday. Rowland came to mind because (a) they were open on a Monday and (b) we've had good experiences there before. We arrived at 6:30p and were the only diners at that time. So, the service was fabulous. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. The drink sizes were great for the price, lasted through the entire meal and were a good mix of ingredients. Very tasty. The entrees came with a basic salad and the ingredients were fresh. I had the Joe Chop (huge pork chop w/white cheddar Mac & Cheese and Brussels Sprouts) and my wife had the Clams (didn't really pay attention to her sides). Very good. We topped it off with a bread pudding based dessert that was gone before we knew it. Overall, very enjoyable. The tab was a bit eye-opening ($93) but I guess that's standard if you do drinks, appetizer, entrée, and dessert.
Nice atmosphere and great service, but the food wasn't amazing. Gnocchi was gritty and not as solid as it should have been, Mac and cheese was a runny and the pork chop was dried out.
Rowland is a cozy environment with made to order entrees. We had the rock fish with a pine nut langoustino butter over pasta that was out of this world, the sauce is so flavorful!! The pecan crusted "joe" chop was cooked to perfection. While it was not my flavor palate preference as it has a apple cider sauce over it and makes it too sweet for my liking. All was cooked well and nicely presented. I have had this place on my bucket list for a while...enjoyed it!
No one greeted us on arrival. I had to tell a guy behind bar who we were. We were seated quickly. Got our drinks in a timely manner, but they were out of the two wines we were interested in and that was at 6:45pm. The wine we ended up getting was mediocre, and did not deserve the $10/glass price. The food tasted fine but was not prepared in the manner you would expect. For example, the appetizer gnocchi was basically a fried potato ball , not a tightly packed traditional potato gnocchi. It was flavorful but the it fell apart easily. The Branzino I ordered Was not a whole fish as I expected, but instead a small filet. It was flavorful but not worth the $24 price ! I was still hungry when I finished. The Eggplant parm was a generous portion but only mediocre in texture and flavor ( it was cut too thick). The pizza was a nice thin crust. The salad that came with the meal had wilty lettuce that seemed too cold and maybe a few days old. I probably will not return to this restaurant given the many other wonderful restaurants in town.
We love this neighborhood gem! We can always get a table and the food and service are always excellent.
The food was outstanding. The menu they created for valentines day was excellent. I had the filet ...my wife had the scallops........the bar tender was very generous. I also had the smoked trout salad which was loaded with great paired flavor. These guys have been around for a while....you cannot go wrong with the quality of their food.
Great service, delicious food. Very, very pricey but nice for special occasions.
A truly excellent restaurant. Terrific service. Fine food.
Waited over an hour past reservation time at bar. Finally had to leave and patron another restaurant. In his defense the bartender was quite nice but the rest of staff was clearly overwhelmed or unprepared for the crowd they had that might.
Valentine's Day dinner with my wife but several business men stumbled in after the dinner rush was over. Food is AWESOME. Really top notch. Price is very reasonable. Dinner for two including 2 drinks, appetizers, salads, entrees and dessert with coffee was only $140 with tip. Our server got lost in the weeds and neglected us a bit but still provided adequate service. He forgot our salads and took a while to bring the check but other than that, it is well worth a visit. Just do not be in a rush. Dinner is likely to take 90-120 minutes.
Table was not ready when we arrived. Waiter forgot to put in one of our appetizers. We were brought a bottle of wine that was not the bottle we ordered. My fish dish was very bland. The restaurant itself looked cozy and it was busy, but we were disappointed with the overall experience
It was particularly busy and took over 2 1/2 hours to get our entrees delivered to our table. The waiter was a bit rude, or seemed uninterested (maybe he was just too busy and needed help serving).
Food is good, and have had great experiences and food here before.
Food was average...underseasoned and underwhelming. Service was incredibly slow. We ordered desserts and finally canceled the order after 35 minutes of waiting. How long does it take to put a piece of pie on a plate? No plans to return here when there are so many better options.
Meal was not as good as I had experienced before
We had received a gift certificate to dine and were very pleased with the overall experience. The ambience was warm and inviting, our server was knowledgeable and made great suggestions for us. Our meals were very good - seared Branzino and Rib Eye Steak. Limited menu, so it's not for picky eaters! Would definitely return.
Always a treat. Service is always excellent and the food is fresh and delicious. We had the Quinoa crusted eggplant this time. One of our favorites. Also had the appetizer special with scallops, pork belly and pea purée. Could eat 10 of those. Restaurant was busy but always has a neighborhood sophisticated casual feel.
