Rowes Wharf Sea Grille Ratings and Reviews
Claim to be a restaurant specializes in seafood, but I think it is rather disappointing. What is the most important factor to be a good seafood restaurant? Fresh seafood. It definitely fell short of that standard. To make it worse, the fish dishes were overcooked. Wouldn't go back.
We had a great experience at this restaurant a few years ago so when visiting Boston again, decided to return. We were so happy we did. The ambiance is so beautiful. Nautical colors inside compliment the beautiful energetic harbor view. The food was absolutely delightful. And service was excellent. Highly recommend.
I have eaten here a number of times over the years. The food was predictably good, but the service was subpar. When our oysters were first served they were not properly shucked and had to be sent back. The chef made good and sent us out new ones and more than we had originally ordered. That was much appreciated. Unfortunately, I had better, more attentive service at the local diner where I had breakfast the prior day than this restaurant. We had to repeatedly seek someone out to get service. Three times in a row we had to request our server's attention and it was not busy at all- just a few other diners. The servers were polite and pleasant, but it was tedious to constantly have to look for them.
Nice place, the service was excellent and actually the Shrimp and Wild mushroom appetizer was quite good. Had the Clam Chowder which had good flavor, but unfortunately the clam garnish was the only clam to be found in the soup. For main course had the scallops which were a bit bland. My wife had the lobster which was average as far as lobster goes. All and all the food was disappointing for such a nice place with good service.
I had a reservation and when I arrived there was plenty of outside seating. However, the hostesses were very unorganized and seating from 2 different locations resulting me in waiting unnecessarily for a table. People who arrived after me ended up being seated before me. The table location as a result was poor.
Our waiter was exceptional. I do not know his name but he was a south American gentleman. He provided a great explanation of the menu and was very informative, courteous and friendly all evening. His recommendation on the wine was spot on. I was there for my wife's birthday but take clients to the restaurant all the time. Exceptionally consistent. Sea food is always fresh and well presented. I recommend the restaurant to people all the time.
The lemon sole of my guest was dry and tasteless, while my filet mignon and vegetables was not medium rare as I requested and EVERY THING was OPER-PEPPERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've enjoyed going to the Sea Grill many times, but apparently they had fourth-ranked chefs doing our meals. I will have to wait to decide whether I go back again. Probably not, even though it is right across the street from where I work. Such a disappointment and I feel embarrassed for my guest who was expecting a great meal as I had told him it would be. Shame on the Sea Grill!!!!!!!!!!
This was a small 50th birthday celebration with a view of the Blues Barge. Being of moderate income, we stuck with the salads but splurged on 3 delicious desserts. The best touch was the Happy Birthday in writing on my friend's dessert plate. Despite our meager order (no liquor either) the waitress was attentive and gracious, and we never felt like we had to finish quickly. thank you!
The service was superb! The cocktails were so delicious, we had to, both, have a second!!
However, being named the Sea Grille, we expected our fish entrees to be superb as well, so very disappointed! We have to give it sometime before we returned as there are so many great restaurants surrounding it.
We went for afternoon tea and made a reservation on Their website - since we could only do 2:30 on open table- arrived at 1:30 reservation time to be told tea began at 2:30 (not on their website) and if we made a reservation on open table it would have been blocked - but we made it ON THEIR SITE with no note of time. Hostess rude about it - we went for a walk on the harbor came back, different host was better. Hostess made a big deal about whether they could fit us in as they were so busy, making 2 phone calls -one to kitchen and who?. We were there through the whole seating time and one one other group of 2 women came in.
The waiter on at least 3 occasions reached across me from the left to serve tea - boarding house reach my mother called it -rather than serving from the right - REALLY? Someone who presents themselves as luxurious and proper with the white linen and your waiters do not know to serve from the right??
Was rather a disappointment in proper hospitality by 2 employees - others we encountered were gracious.
The hour also cost quite a bit on parking as we had prepaid for a specific time and the extra hour cost.
This restaurant serves great food and good wine in an interesting and vibrant location.
It's just let down by the service.
It's one of those restaurants with friendly hosts who seem to serve no other purpose but to seat you.
Then there's a small handful of waiters who are supposed to serve and remove dishes.
But the ordering of food and wine and the paying of the bill can only be handled by one man who seems to covering the whole restaurant. Crazy!
As a result of this silly staffing structure the order had to be corrected and delay seemed to be caused at every turn because the poor head waiter was occupied elsewhere.
And it can't be that they are understaffed. Not at those prices!
This is not a complaint email at all. I was only surprised at the expense of the meal!
My friends birthday dinner was the occasion. Everything was outstanding and I imagined the bill for the dinner would be somewhat expensive - I just didn't think it was going to be $175!!
Y'all can charge whatever you'd like for dinner (I live local in Boston), and I realize you cater to a high end clientele, but WOW! I wasn't expecting that.
I think I'll just come for coffee and dessert instead. And probably just once a year for a special occasion.
