Roux - Hilton Asheville Ratings and Reviews
I really wanted to like this place, but would not recommend it to anyone. I had the pot pie which was served in a bowl filled with goopy salty shredded chicken soup with 3 pieces of puff pastry on top. The rice and beans with Andouille sausage was dried out and the presentation left something to be desired. They couldn't even get the salads right. Caesar not tossed with a pile of parma on top. Nice waitress, but not trained. We spoke to the couple at the next table and they too were disappointed in the food. You are virtually sitting in the lobby of the hotel, but I hear breakfast is good.
This was our second visit within the same week with two different groups of friends; one after a movie across the street, the other simply because La Roux offers great food and great service + takes reservations and the proprietor permits the option to have more time for conversation absent any suggestion of "you need to move along now". Hence it has become a favorite for outings where a small group of six can thoroughly enjoy a lunch or dinner and chat!
We enjoyed the NYE New Orleans-style Brunch. The atmosphere was festive, fun and enjoyable. Always delicious on a Sunday, the special brunch mixed traditional with creole classics. It made for a terrific meal at a great value! The staff was a bit too thin for the service and overall to achieve 5 stars, but a great time and meal were enjoyed!
We took advantage of the 2 for $32 special. Any entrée and any 2 sides for each entrée. I had the salmon with beets and goat cheese salad and the asparagus. Salmon was cooked perfectly. My husband raved about the pork and his brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes. Overall excellent meal and fantastic value.
A friend told us about their good experience at Roux Restaurant at the Hilton in Asheville. We were not disappointed when we took our house guests there recently for lunch. The menu is varied and the service by our waiter, Anderson, was excellent. Anderson also mentioned the great dinner menu as well as their very popular Sunday brunch. I am always looking for a great place to take our house guests for Sunday brunch so I look forward to returning to Roux to experience this with my close friends and family.
We normally eat your breakfast and love it. We invited friends to have dinner with us there and we ate outside. The service was terrible and it took forever to get our food. We even joked about going across the street and getting a sandwich. We weren't even offered bread and our water glasses were empty...never asked if I wanted another glass of wine until our dinner was over. My fish was "killed" and I had to send it back. Everyone else's food was good. We had not had an issue like that with service before so maybe it was because we ate outside? Also it's a smoking area which I think looks bad right in front of your hotel. Don't know but wanted you to be aware of it for the future.
People look at you weird when you recommend a restaurant in a hotel lobby, but the atmosphere is very nice, it is quiet unless there is a rowdy group in the lobby, the service is very friendly and best of all the the food is great. Never had a bad meal there.
My husband, some friends, and I had dinner here on a Saturday night when we were all in Asheville for a book signing at Malaprop's. The food was delicious, the service was great, the setting was handsome, but the restaurant was practically deserted. That was a bit odd. There were people in the adjacent lobby bar, just on the other side of a low wall, but the noise didn't carry. Recommended.
Crab cake was tasty but texture seemed old.
Salmon was fresh but way over cooked. I asked for salmon to be Cooked thru, not well done.
Roasted Beet and squash side dish was dried up.
Parmesan unpeeled mashed potatoes tasted old and dry.
Grilled Asparagus was delicious as was the cranberry bread.
Good friendly service.
We visited Roux for restaurant week. We both had the trout, it was fresh and well cooked but a bit bland. We each had two sides, the brussel sprouts were delicious and cooked nicely, also the butternut squash and beets were great, but the most expensive side, black bean stew, was served in a small bowl and was dry.
The service was good at Roux, but the food was just average for the price point. The Pork chop I had was delicious, but my girlfriends crabcakes were lacking. I would recommend for maybe a quick dinner if you're staying at the hotel, but as a local I would not make a special trip to eat here.
This was our third dinner at Roux. We have previously been very pleased with the high quality of both the food and service. However, the service was appallingly bad this time. Our server neglected to bring us bread and did not make us aware of the specials. I ordered a split of cava. He plopped down the unopened bottle and a glass on the table and walked away. After vain attempts to open the bottle, we had to ask him for assistance. He opened the bottle but couldn't be bothered to pour. To top it all off, he brought our entrees while we were only halfway through our salads. We noticed that the nearby couple had a wonderful server. If only we could have switched!
We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The ambiance was nice, the service was good and the food was excellent. We attended during Asheville Restaurant week, which provides a great way to try new restaurants. The meal was an excellent value, very good quality and quite tasty. We will return!
Service was too slow. I think they eyeballed us, made the call - a couple of locals out for the restaurant week deal - then treated us accordingly. Like every other "deal" I've ever used, I've always wondered, why would a restaurant subject any of us to this (disappointed waitstaff and guests) if they aren't actually interested in attracting new clients with good service?
We were impressed that this year the restaurant was prepared for Independent Restaurant Week...Last year they did not realize how many local people would take advantage of the special offers and they were understaffed. Not this year!
The manager was most accommodating since their website menu had listed a filet as being part of the special menu- which apparently they had not intended, but he honored this .
We live in the neighborhood and are thankful for this restaurant.
