The restaurant was rebranded with another name and would not honour the reservation. Rousseau House should be removed from Open Table so this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Very good. Brought a dessert with a candle.
Thank you for an excellent dining experience at Rousseau House...
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel very comfortable...
I will definitely recommend Rousseau House to all my friends and family...
Surroundings very nice.
Service very good.
My food was not
I had the squash salad which was soggy.
The mushroom risotto was bland.
My friends were happy with their food.
No options for vegans and not many options for vegetarians.
good value for $ - my favourite dining place in Ancaster. It will be better when they expand their pizza and other menu items!
The menu did not offer a wide variety of items and some in our party had difficulty finding something appealing. The risotto and Euro bass were way too salty which was too bad because otherwise quite tasty. The apps and desserts were delicious. The atmosphere is charming although quite noisy. The entrance was rather dangerous as the lights were not on and it was dark when we left. The staff were all lovely and attentive. We would recommend and will try again.
Restaurant is under construction. Waiter wasn’t very personable and we felt rushed to order. Food was “ok” but nothing to rave about. Pasta special sounded terrible and so we ended up having the burgers. We opted to have salad with one, at the waiters suggestion, instead of the fries but found out later he charged us $2 for that. Wanted a glass of wine but the prices were astronomical. So much for a nice anniversary dinner. We’ll never go back and wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to “anyone” let alone friends.
As always a terrific value, sophisticated and original cuisine, a lovely evening and culinary experience. Extensive wine list, first class and personalized service. Everyone should try the foie gras and the superb Foirerro Rocher we had over the summer!
We hadn’t been to the Rousseau for awhile. I was disappointed in the ambiance. It seemed really tired not the classy place I remember.
My dinner was very disappoint ing.
Meat was tough and presentation very unappetizing. "Duck"
My friend asked for well done. Too rare.
Other 2 meals were good.
Lovely spot. Attentive service, but the waiter described the pasta special twice and our guest ordered it based on that. When our meals arrived the waiter said that he had given us the wrong description and simply served a completely different pasta. Our guest graciously accepted the substitution but I know he was disappointed. It would have been better if he had been informed earlier and able to change his order.
We arrived for a reservation and the host was extremely distracted and did not seat us right away. Once seated we waited 12 minutes for someone to come over to just give us water only to find out that that was our bartender, not our waitress. Our waitress had been in our section at least six times while we were sitting there waiting for her. She had come to the table directly behind me four times to give them wine samples, the table beside us twice dealing with their bill, and the table kitty corner to them twice as well. Due to the extreme noise we asked the bartender for a table upstairs that would be quieter. She said she would inform our waitress at which point my husband said “we have a waitress?”. We waited another two minutes (total of 15 minutes after sitting down) and with the waitress still not coming over to even greet us, we got up and left.
We've been to this restaurant three times now as a family. The food is very good and twice we've been seated by the window at the back. Great view. I wish there were a few more items on the menu for those if us who are dairy intolerant. The service was a little slow this last visit, but fine for the other two. We'd go back.
Absolutely a delightful yummy experience! Will absolutely go back for more!
Cucumber water was appreciated. The avocado bruschetta was delicious. The flat iron steak was good. The avocado, egg, and chicken salad was good. The burgers were awful. The fries were lukewarm and way too salty.
Had a great meal. Ambiance wonderful...sat on the patio. Never been disappointed!!!
We had a great evening celebrating a friends birthday. Everything was wonderful
One of the best dinners we've had in a long time. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. We sat out on the patio and it was beautiful.
We really enjoyed our time at Rousseau House. Excellent food & service.
Always enjoy our time at the Rousseau House. Great patio and lovely tapas selection.
I have been to Rousseau House many times and it remains one of my favourite Ancaster restaurants
The quality and freshest of the food was noticeable. A solid experience all around.
It was a very disappointing experience. The food was mediocre at best...it really is a shame. We have tried this restaurant many times over the years, hoping that it will be better but it just isn’t
I’m a local restaurant owner as well and I must say they have amazing service and food. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.
Went to Rousseau House for a birthday dinner...my meal was delious...I had salmon and beets...it would have been nice to have potatoes as well but the beets were amazing, the salmon was perfect! My wine was delicious but there were only three choices. The waiter was fun and a bit quirky! It was a fun and nice place for my birthday dinner!
Great meal and service!
Unremarkable at best. I expected more, because I received a recommendation from a friend but the construction was an inconvenience; there was concrete being poured beside our table, no parking because the lot was included in the renovation and the entrance to the restaurant was not clearly marked. The staff was very good however, which was very pleasant but the fried chicken was terribly over salted. Overall I would say, no...I would not recommend Rousseau House.
Always great service and good food.
Had a very enjoyable lunch
This is our second visit as a family and we enjoy the venue in the old house. Last time we were in a booth in the middle section and this time we faced the garden which was really nice. Everyone was friendly and our orders were taken promptly and the food did not take long. The flavour and seasonings of the meat and vegetables was delicious. The only criticism I would have was the menu is very difficult for anyone who is dairy intolerant. From appetizers to dessert, milk/cheese were in most things. Also the old fashioned chairs are beautiful to look at but need new springs to be comfortable for sitting. We would go again regardless.
We came in early for our reservation and seated right away - very friendly - enjoyed nice calamari app with green goddess dressing - tender and good - enjoyed steak frites and salmon mains - very nice vegetables with them and all nicely cooked and presented - lovely old building and enjoyable overall. Not inexpensive but ok for quality of food and service
Food arrived hot, fast, delicious, and all at once, and the server was great. Prices were very reasonable too, and a lovely patio which wasn't overfull. Fantastic.
Generous Portions - but THANKFULLY not supersized
Place was noisy, portions small very noisy a very loud group near us we could not hear our own conversation. One gentleman at the table yelled his conversation. Will not come back. Food wasn’t worth the price and because of the noise there was no ambiance
Fantastic food, amazing service, a perfect place for an evening out!
The food was absolutely incredible. No complaints on that end at all! Our server was fairly new but we didn’t feel confident in anything she said or did. Even when she went to find an answer for us it still felt like she was responding with a question. Food was amazing but for the price I wish the service was a bit better. I think for a fancier restaurant they should train their staff with better cues.
What a great evening. Thank you. Great food. Reasonable prices
Half price tapas was excellent. The only complaint I had was the calamari wasn’t quite crispy enough for my liking. Everything else was delicious and the service was incredible.
The menu for mother’s day was odd . Every other main dish had poached eggs and sauce . Mom had the brisket it had no flavour and full of oil and the poached egg was under cooked . The ceasar salad had pink peppercorns which over powered the salad the only good thing was the waitress . Not a good time for Mother’s Day will not be back and I am a Ancaster resident
Thanks for a good evening
