Roundhouse Ratings and Reviews
We had a lovely dinner at the Roundhouse on a Saturday night. It was almost a full moon and we thought it would be a perfect time to dine there. Unfortunately, the clouds didn't cooperate and the moon was hidden. It is a fun treat to take the gondola to the restaurant and we really appreciated the blankets given to us as we got on the gondola. The meal was very nice and the service was good. It is a 6 course "tasting" menu, prix fix, but we didn't find that it was too much food. My only complaint is that the on-line menu is different that what we were offered at the restaurant . It probably wouldn't have changed our mind, but I was disappointed to discover that what I had picked out wasn't available.
Overall, this is a nice option for a special night out. Expensive, but unique.
As always, in a spectacular historic building, you will be surprised to find an excellent wine list, surprising menu choices (warm lobster roll!!, lollypop lambchops on a crisp tossed salad, the best elk burger ever) and service by Peter Kelley that topped the charts.
Access by gondola allows non-skiers to meet their skiing/snowboarding friends and family for gorgeous views and cozy luncheon by the crackling central fireplace. Just incomparable!
Atmosphere beautiful, food great, service superior! Was disappointed there is no sugar free syrups for lattes nor sugar free packets for regular coffees, not diabetic friendly. There did seem to be gluten free items. Please consider the many more diabetics than gluten intolerant people.
One of the most magical evenings we've had with our four kids. All starting with a romantic gondola ride in the dark!
Service was top notch and the culinary experience was exceptional. The kids were delighted by each course and we must say we've never had them sit still for 2 hours this contently! An evening we will never forget!
I was so excited to experience the Roundhouse and it did not disappoint! Amazing menu/food/wine, atmosphere & ambiance are the most cozy & romantic you could possibly want, service is impeccable, views are beyond breathtaking. I could've stayed for hours, enjoying wine close to the fireplaces! Cannot wait to return!
This was the best meal we had while in the Sun Valley area. The sweet potato bisque, croque monsieur, and special lamb and eggplant sandwich were all fantastic. The service was excellent, as well, and the snowy views by fireside added to the experience. We highly recommend Roundhouse!
The menu and course selection is very good. Each dish is served with flavor and style. Part of the experience is riding the gondola up and down with a warm blanket and great view. The restaurant was not full but had a few large parties which caused our service of courses to be very delayed to a much unacceptable level. Dinner at 7:15 and at 9:30 we asked to box the dessert.
The view, service and atmosphere were outstanding. A fun experience. But after spending $20 to ride up to the restaurant, I was hoping for better food. In this resort, with high quality everywhere, I was disappointed that the Roundhouse meal was the worst we had in the Valley.
What a great dinner on our ski weekend with friends. It all started entering the gondola and being a handed a blanket for the spectacular ride up. The food was great. Definitely things you won't find on your neighborhood restaurants menu. It was all delicious. Service was fantastic.
We very much enjoyed our experience at the Round House. Brandon, our server was excellent in every way. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day afternoon for drinks. Brandon recognized us from the night before and made a point to ask us about our experience. The entire staff was great and the food was perfect.
Extraordinary round building sits atop the mt with scenic, unobstructed views for miles. One of the few places where one can see this distance without seeing roads/buildings/man-made items....only mts. The facility is built of whole timbers and stone in a round shape with a 4-sided fireplace in the center. The rugged structure is balanced by comfy seating, nice decorative appointments, and the most amazing large window views. Being vegetarian, the fondue was about my only food option, but it was fantastic (and meat/lobster can be added.) The other members of our party enjoyed the bison stew and other hearty fare. The most memorable lunch spot of our trip.
We had been to Roundhouse for lunch, but thought it would be a nice place to celebrate the new year. Taking the gondola up on a cold and clear night was magical -- shooting stars, city lights... They thoughtfully provided wool blankets for the ride up and it was fun to go up in the dark. The restaurant was cozy, warm and inviting. A nice big round table for our group of 8 made it a social meal. The multiple course menu was outstanding (LOVE the fondue). Each course was delicious, appropriately sized and innovative. Solid wine list as well. Our server and the staff could not have been more professional and welcoming. We would highly recommend a visit for dinner!
I think the chef quit two days ago, before our experience ..,during the holiday season, on purpose ...never hire him again. He put the kitchen in chaos. The well flavored fondue arrived with no bread and veggies. And no response to rectify. We literally went to other tables and into the kitchen to get our own Breda..Mushrooms were ordered and never received. The waitress was really apopologetic...she said she would take the mushrooms off the bill. Why, thank you! We never received the mushrooms. NOT a good day at roundhouse this season.
We are a little old fashioned and would prefer to go back to dinner rolls with butter, steak and potatoes. Although everything looked beautiful it was not really according to our tastes. We have dined here several times in the past and loved the experience but have decided to go elsewhere next time.
This spot was perfect for a memorable evening. The gondola ride is unlike anything else, including the personal touch of blankets to keep warm! The views of the city and the mountain are breath taking and fun to share with friends and family. The lodge was cozy, warm, rustic, and upscale. Food was nicely paired and the staff all super friendly. I would highly recommend!
Roundhouse is charming and of course the trip in the gondola to get there is half the experience. I had forgotten that for dinner Roundhouse is prix fixe. That is good as we probably would not have gone because it is pricey but we would have missed out. The food was very good, the service was excellent, the view of Ketchum from the top of Baldy at night is amazing, watching the snow cats grooming the mountain is neat and the building itself is so charming. It made for a very memorable Valentine's dinner.
This is a Sun Valley classic. Had my birthday lunch here after a morning of skiing. Staff is great. Food is good, with classic winter choices like fondue and other hearty dishes. A must try at least once restaurant as there is no other like it. If you don't ski it can be accessed from the gondola at River Run.
Roundhouse has been a favorite for many years.
It's relaxing after a hard morning on the pistes and makes for a consolation prize for the luckless non-skier.
The menu has changed and the waitstaff slipped
In the past couple of years. The mountain dish of tartiflette and lunch dish of sausages are gone. A salmon BLT has appeared
It's unfortunate as there are rare offerings on the starter and main course menus that match . How to follow or accompany the fondue? Not the kale and quinoa salad, nor the trout salad, one too much of everything, the other dainty but lacking.
But if they were to offer an escarole salad with chèvre and an acidic vinaigrette, that would be the ticket.
Service tries -- Trevor perfect -- yet other seem
unused to the more formal service.
Nothing equals the interior setting, nor the view.
I'd recommend management improve the menu with complementary first and main courses which can also stand in their own as choices for the visitor too anxious to return to the slopes.
Roundhouse for lunch has improved over last couple of years. Good variety of food. Excellent cheese fondue.Great ambiance and wonderful mountain views. Delightful place for lunch after skiing!
Over the holidays it was, as would be expected, very busy and crowded so service was a bit slow.
A must if you are visiting Sun Valley.
growing up in sun valley, I wasn't sure if the roundhouse prix fixe would be worth the $85 ticket per person... But this was such a great evening and one we will remember for years. We were seated in avrells- the fownstairs section, which definitely kept the noise down. The seven courses were each mouthwatering and the service was fantastic. It must be tough to run a five star restaurant halfway up a mountain, but from the blankets in the gondola to the totally clear- of snow pathways, this night was perfect down to the details.
