Very disappointed. I have been going there to celebrate my birthday for 6 years. Not again.
We had an incredible dining experience over Stampede. One thing we found was lacking at almost every place we’d dined during Stampede week was good service. Not at Rouge! Our server was knowledgeable, prompt and extremely professional.
Our garden view patio table was comfortable and relaxing despite the business and chaos Stampede week seems to inflict on the rest of the city. It was the perfect reprieve before putting our cowboy boots and hats back on.
This place offers an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone, whether you are visiting Calgary (like us) or just wanting a day/night out.
Excellent food and service. I requested a special favourite birthday dessert and they didn’t disappoint ... added touch of a birthday card signed by all the staff was appreciated
Very good as usual
Lovely garden to spend a warm summers evening
Tasting menu June 2018. Was fantastic. Kept getting better and better. Highlight for me was the beef main and the cheese crepe (my wife said maybe the best dessert she's ever had and I would agree).
Went for our wedding anniversary- lovely ambience, beautifully presented and delicious food, and great service.
We made great choices for lunch (soup and salad) and added a glass of wine. We were not paying attention to prices necessarily but were very surprised at how expensive the bill was for lunch. Perhaps pricing better suited to special occasions not an everyday place
Fantastic experience, with the exception of some loud tables. This is not a negative on the restaurant, it is the customers that should have been more mindful. I'm sure next experience will be better!
Great as always. Food and service was fantastic. Never had a really bad experience here.
Great experience, except for the baby in the dining room at another table. It was my impression that children under 10 years were not welcome based on literature on the website, so a shrieking baby at times was an unpleasant part of an otherwise outstanding and romantic ambiance.
It was a wonderful night. Our server was knowledgeable and kind.
Limited lunch menu and very disappointing considering that this place should be exceptional. Previous experiences (dinner) have been positive. Poor value.
Wonderful ambiance, fantastic entrées, and superb service.
We had the tasting menu and it was such an incredible and delicious experience. There was an overarching theme to the dishes that tied them together very well, and the portions were perfect; we left feeling satisfied and comfortable.
Food was quite good, expensive though. Portions were larger than I expected.
Totally delicious, neat location, great service. Best mushroom soup ever. Would go again!
When we arrived nobody came to greet us and we waited a while standing around. When finally the hostess showed up we were brought out to dine in a tent??? Service for food from the kitchen was extremely slow. We had to ask for our food to be served as it was taking way to long, 3 1/2 hours to dine. And when we asked for the bill we had to make our way to the hostess desk to pay as our server wasn’t around to collect payment.
I brought my 9yo daughter here a few months ago for a special fancy dinner out - we did the tasting menu together(I had the wine pairing) which certainly was a new experience for her and a wonderful experience for both of us. The staff were wonderful to us and made a couple very unique and delicious mocktails for my daughter. She loved everything about the evening. We were back in Calgary again last weekend and she asked if we might go back to that same place again. We did more of a standard appetizer, entrée and dessert meal this time and had another friend with us as well, but still had an unbelievable meal! The sommelier paired a fabulous wine for the appetizers and entree's we had ordered. Loved it. My only critique would be with the drink menu, our server advised that the restaurant had returned to a more classic cocktail menu which was disappointing for us. The cocktails I had enjoyed on previous occasions were out of this world. So creative, sophisticated, unique and fun. I would vote to bring back some of that! I do have to say that our server did dig out some frozen cucumber lemonade and they came up with a fabulous gin cocktail that we thoroughly enjoyed so I greatly appreciated that effort. Between the 3 of us we had the bison tartar, fois gras mousse, mushroom risotto, beef tenderloin and duck breast. We enjoyed every single one of the items we chose.
Thank you for another spectacular dining experience!
We had a wonderful dinner. The staff are always attentive. The food as always great.
I thought t food was excellent. T black truffles unique y flavour full. T appy surprised me even when she took t time to warn me of t one bit. Enjoyed such fine cuisine. Ty
Very nice place good, food and special but pricey.
We had the tasting menu with wine pairing last night and it was tops all around. The food was very tasty and they were happy to sub out one of the courses for me. Our server Bree was delightful and we enjoyed chatting with her. Overall a two thumbs up.
My wife and I went for date night. The food was good but the service was only fair at best. We had the Bison tartar which was excellent and the Halibut was also great.
Rouge is a special Inglewood gem across from the zoo. It has free parking and charm as soon as you walk in the doors of this historic property.
The food is absolutely divine! Everything is prepared from scratch with special attention to even the tiniest detail. Homemade bread and butter complement each meal.
Even the bill came with two tiny carrot cakes with Chantilly cream frosting!
You won’t be disappointed trying this sweet spot!
It was amazing. Would definitely recommend and go again. Amazing food and patio was perfect
We recently dined here for our wedding anniversary. The setting was beautiful I must say!
However, I had emailed a note to the restaurant that is was our anniversary that evening and anything special for her would be appreciated! On arrival we waited at the front for someone to show up and we thought maybe there was another way in because nobody came. Eventually I proceeded into the restaurant and flagged someone down. We were seated and asked if we wanted water to start. Water was not served till I reminded them of it about half way through our course. Was really not impressed with the meal, especially the beef as it seemed tasteless. Way overpriced for the quality and quantity of food and as for the special occasion we received a paper card with happy anniversary signed by all. 👎
Our anniversary. Our server was outstanding from food knowledge to wine recommendations. Very enjoyable. Our feeling is that the look of Rouge needs an upgrade. Floors and wall covering should be upgraded.
The food although not unpleasant was pretty 'run of the mill'. The service was not too bad but the ambiance was really substandard with poor linen and very stark décor. the patio which will come into its own in the season still had assorted (apparently) broken furniture on it.
A perfect evening sitting outside at Rouge ... celebrating two birthdays!
Service made you feel top notch, great food atmosphere nice, gotta go back for a chef tasting.
Staff were very informed on your choice of food. Great service, garden area is very nice. A great place for a special occasion.
We took our mom for mothers day brunch thinking it would be an exceptional dining experience. We were incredibly disappointed. The service was great but the food was very under whelming. We ordered the quiche and eggs benedict, the quiche was cold, and the eggs benedict would have been better had we made it at home. In no hurry to visit this restaurant again.
A special brunch on Mother’s Day deserves a special restaurant, and Rouge always works for the four of us. It’s on the higher end of the price scale but hey, it was Mother’s Day. We shared starters (charcuterie plate, bison tartar, and a mushroom truffle dish). All very good but the bison tartar—we were experimenting—was amazing. The mains were also very good with decent variety on offer but it was the bison we were all talking about, right up until dessert. Here again we shared, and the star was the chocolate brownie cake. That and double espressos capped off a very nice meal. See you next Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day and birthday for my mothers 64th
Was a little disappointed in the service
Had to ask 3 people for a soda
Our appetizer only had 4 piece of bread for our cheese and meats
The desert was definetly not my favourite or my mother’s
Coconut Bruele was very more of a custard rather then bruele
We made a point of returning to Rouge as our first experience there was amazing. On this occasion the food was phenomenal as we expected but the overall experience was below average. The experience was ruined by the poor service. Our waiter never did tell us his name. He returned to the table twice to ask which wine we had requested. There were very long periods of time in which he gave us zero attention and I got up from our table multiple times to pour our own wine. Also at no time did he ask us if we liked either food or drink. Very disappointed to return to such a high class place that held special meaning for us and have the experience soured by such terrible and impersonal service. Doubtful we will return.
On balance a good experience. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings. The pairings were inspired, with perhaps 1 exception, and was probably more memorable than the food. Probably the only downsides were 1) the hostess, who had no personality to speak of and didn’t seem to be happy in her job, and 2) an uncomfortably long wait to be served once seated. Our waitress was really good and the meal was well paced. All in all, a good way of spending a few hours.
Ouch. This restaurant used to be a favorite, but this is the second time we've come and been utterly disappointed.
The venue is admittedly still gorgeous. It's only spring, but the patio is beautiful, and you feel like you're much farther from downtown than you actually are.
That is where my positives ended. The service was roughly what you might experience at a dennys, but with none of the value. Our server was unable to communicate knowledgably about any of the menus, and clearly was used to making up answers to guests who weren't used to dining out. We rolled our eyes as we listened to her mumble incohernetly about the food. The manager and other servers were little better. We were also left to top up our own water and wine all night. We left 10%, and felt that was being generous.
The food was a little better. We had the mushroom soup and tuna to start. Both good, but simple. The mains, particularly the pork were chewy, underseasoned and expensive. Hopefully the chef wasn't working.
All in all, lazy service and mediocre food at a premium price tag. Avoid!
Booked a table at Rouge for lunch for my friends birthday treat as it was somewhere she had always wanted to go. While the service from Sarah was outstanding, the food was disappointing. I ordered the quiche, the daily special, and it was inedible. Clearly warmed in the microwave, it was like rubber. Sarah was very good about tak8ng it back, but because I didn’t want another one, ordered the cauliflower appetizer to replace it. I was surprised to find I was charged for the cauliflower. At $105.00 plus tip for lunch for two, I expected to be wowed. I was not.
Sat on the balcony and the ambiance and food were both outstanding
Rouge never disappoints! We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our evening and can't wait to do it again. We even enjoyed the music playing in the background. 10 out of 10
