The overall experience doesn’t match the price point. The food was very good but the rest of the dining experience wasn’t.
We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday at Rogue. The staff was so helpful with my mother and elderly father. They gave our group of 6 a quiet table where we could have great conversations and enjoy the wonderful food. Thank you to our server Peter for being ever so respectful of my parents. It is a birthday my mother will not forget.
Took my 9yo for her first true fine dining experience. Much to my delight, she selected the chefs tasting menu and we loved it. She was so interested in the creative food, and the mocktails the bartenders created for her will not be soon forgotten! We had a fabulous evening together, with delicious and visually stunning food, skillfully selected wine (ok, only I had the wine), professional, knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff in a memorable space. Loved every minute.
Chef Darnel never disappoints. Fine dining in a lovely setting.
Outstanding food and ambience!
We have visited this restaurant several times & have always enjoyed the experience. The staff are extremely polite, very up to date on the menu & wine choices and pleasantly attentive.
We enjoyed the appetizers, the main course & the desert. The pace of the meal was just right and the ambiance very satisfying. This is an expensive place to dine. The portions are small but very well prepared & presented . You have to be prepared to pay attention to your meal & enjoy it. Its not for everyday dining but more for an occasion. Definitely will return.
We had been to Rouge a few years ago for our anniversary and liked it. We thought we’d go back and did. It was a Tues evening so it wasn’t a peak night but the place was nearly empty (there were only two other tables occupied). The food quality was okay but not great given the cost and portion size. The portions were 1/2 to 1/3 of the size you’d expect and the price was 2 to 3 times the price you’d expect to pay. There are hundreds of great restaurants in Calgary to go to before you should go to Rouge.
My Mom and Dad were celebrating their 45 year anniversary and enjoyed their meal and could not stop talking about how good the service was. Thank you!
I had one of the best meals of my life here. The service was top notch as well. I was so blown away by the entire experience. So much so I am booking my wedding for Rouge! <3
Amazing! My gf and I had a blast. People complain of portion sizes but we got the chef's menu and were stuffed! The arugula salmon salad was delicious! The meat dish was splendid! The way they described the food was awesome! The ravioli dish was to die for! The service was great! Just hated how far the parking was. It was a cold walk. In the summer it would be amazing! You know they took great pride in their dishes! Loved it! Would go again! It is pricy but worth it. Their beet yogurt dish was yummy!
We have always enjoyed Rouge for special dinners. The food is delightful. However, yesterday we were served a salad that was very salty and with tomatoes that were tasteless. We sent it back. We were given a free dessert as compensation but no explanation. Everything else was fine and as I said this was not what we came to expect and have been happy before. We will return.
We didn’t really enjoy our time. The food was well prepared and quite expensive but underwhelming. They clearly put work into the presentation, but the dishes lacked depth. The ambiance was a combination of boring and pretentious. Perhaps if everything were $10-20 less expensive and a livelier of an atmosphere, it would have been good.
Exquisite. Tasting menu is out of this world. Quiet, intimate ambiance. Eating is an experience here; no rushing through your meal, great timing; wonderful portion sizes: you don't leave feeling like you can't walk, and you're definitely not left feeling hungry. Special occasion is perfect here :)
Food was outstanding, service impeccable as always. I️ have never been disappointed and will return again for any occasion. Love it!
The staff was exceptionally welcome and kind. The dish size for my son, unfortunately was not enough to fill him. We had a budget of $100, and he left the restaurant still hungry. The staff were able to meet my dietary needs for celiac disease.
I’m always so impressed by the quality of the food and service at Rouge. It’s a lovely experience every time, and they can make a ton of accommodations for dietary restrictions. They often add on little extras which are just as good as the meals. Just a classy, excellent time. If you go in the spring up to the fall, you can enjoy the patio and take a gander through their garden after your meal, which has a ton of herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Once there was a chef gathering some fruit who gave us a mini tour! I can’t recommend it more.
Excellent as always. Food is fabulous and beautifully plated. Great ambiance and professional non-intrusive servers make it well worth the dining experience for lunch or dinner.
They should not allow other customers to sit and talk on their phone for hours on end. That is literally the only problem I had with the dining experience other than the portions.
Great food & service. Fantastic place for any kind of special occasion, or just a great meal out. Can’t wait to go back during summer to enjoy the beautiful patio and the restaurant’s own home grown veggies and herbs.
Over price over hyped ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!??????
Super service and great food. Love this restaurant and will return
Overall, I would highly recommend Rouge.
The portions aren't large, but very typical of Nouvelle Cuisine. If you're looking for healthy sized portions, you may want to look elsewhere. However, the food was fantastic. The Atlantic lobster tortellini was delicious and the sturgeon was flavourful and cooked to perfection. My guest enjoyed the butter leaf lettuce salad and the smoked benchmark ribeye, which were also very tasty and prepared nicely. The meal was topped off with the dark chocolate brownie and the malted mousse cake, both of which were a pleasure to the senses.
The service was also excellent. Our waiter was observant and efficient without overkill. And the venue has character and is very quaint. As the restaurant is in an old house (and we went on a very cold evening), I was pleased to find the temperature very comfortable without any cold drafts, something quite typical in many restaurants of this nature.
I look forward to returning in the summer months to sample some of the produce grown on site.
I had been to the Cross House years ago and loved how the old house had been reinvented into a lovely restaurant. So after the transformation to Rouge some years ago and the many accolades I had heard, I was quite disappointed. While the food was excellent, there was simply no ambiance. The walls are stark white and the track lighting is bright. A beautiful old house that could easily have been decorated to reflect the era and enhance the old world experience was sorely lacking.
Our first time there. We had always wanted to try going there for a dinner meal but their bookings were full usually during festivities times, so we decided to do it after the New Year just for a lunch meal. It's actually more enjoyable as it's quieter & more relaxing. The food was excellent. They even offered a 3-course express weekday lunch for $25 only. We definitely will go back & bring some friends & relatives along. Thank you for the great food!
Went out for dinner with our son and his wife. We had the chefs tasting plate which was a 6 course meal Andre Wes went with the matching wine tasting. Enjoyed most of the courses very much especially the beef and tortellini courses. Had two red wines and two rose along with the dessert wine.
All good but enjoyed the Red’s the most. Quite pricy for the overall meal so not something we would do often.
My wife and i had a fabulous time at Rouge! We will defiantly be back. Sage and the rest of the service staff were outstanding.
We were there in Thursday Dec 21st.
The picture below was a selfie as we entered your restaurant!
Christmas get together with friends. Very good location with minimal noise for good conversation. The food was amazing as usual but the prices are very high. The wine list is off the charts for price with very few options less than $120 per bottle. Wines we can buy for $35 at liquor store are $100 to $125 and one of the ones at $95 they did not have and the second bottle at $110 they only had one botttle. Each one they recommended was $20 more. A great spot if cost is not a concern.
We went for her birthday, looking for a special night out. We opted for the Chefs’ tasting menu(6 courses)with the wine pairings. The food was delicious and the wine pairings were very well done. It was a lovely meal and (with the service we received) made her night a very special one.
This was one of the best meals my husband and I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The service was excellent. Will be back for another special occasion.
Best for Foodies and local eats! Splendid and wonderful tasty bites! Thank you!
The food was fantastic, and the service was impeccable. The soup starter was delicious, and the Wagyu Steak was perfectly done, as were the trimmings.
The pricing was very reasonable for the superb quality .
Everything was excellent other then the appetizer. $17 for 5 miniature lobster ravioli was highly overpriced.
A friend and I went to celebrate her birthday. We had the tasting menu and the accompanying wine selection. The tasting menu was very creative and had some excellent small servings. The wine pairings were carefully considered and suited the theme of the dishes they accompanied. The meal was good value for money, but predictably not cheap. The staff provided a very high quality level of service without being overly serious. All in all a memorable sortie.
Rouge never disappoints. The food is always amazing, creative and will make you wish you could eat more.
The service was exceptional. The food was good. We did have a problem with the way the Pheasant Confit was prepared (too dry) , however, the wait staff and the management offered another choice of menu and delivered it very quickly. The second option (Beef cheeks) was very good. The ambiance was nice - lively, but not too noisy. The restaurant acknowledged and helped celebrate our special occasion indicated on the OpenTable reservation (birthday celebration). Thank you for a great evening.
Took forever to take our orders. Pheasant dish arrived, and was too dry to swallow. I mentioned it to the server and she wasn't surprised, and said that she has heard that often before. She did offer to let me get something else, but my date had hers and ended up waiting while they prepared something else for me. A man I can only presume was the manager came over with the replacement meal and just said "SALTY" and repeated over and over. Hard to hear him because crowd was so loud. I said "uh no, it was extremely dried out". He said "oh" and walked away. I found it very rude for any restaurant, let alone one that is supposed to be among the best in the city. The server was pleasant. Overall it made for a very unpleasant experience.
It was our first time there & we all enjoyed your restaurant very much!
Last time we have been to Rouge was couple of years ago and the food was great. This time we were really disappointed with the taste of the meals, which was opposite to what it used to be. I used to love their bison tartar, which this time turned into a gooey lump of meat. The pheasant was incredibly salty. Disappointing to see such a negative change of taste.
Great experience. Fantastic service in a very unique and enjoyable setting. Nice well dressed crowd . No hats.
Awesome. Will be back again and will bring friends.
