I'm always on a quest for the best burger in Philly and for years have been hearing raves about the Rouge burger as being tops. I have a favorite at a different restaurant and was excited to try the Rouge burger. Unfortunately it was such a huge disappointment. It was really awful.
1. Too much meat (I like a big juicy burger, but this was too much even for me)
2. Sad little bun
3. Asked for it medium rare but it was so thick that it came rare
4. I've never had a burger that was so devoid of flavor (I wanted to ask for salt but didn't want to be rude)
5. I only ate half of it because it wasn't worth the calories (I don't think I've ever not eaten the entire burger when i get one)
Had a really nice and not too expensive bottle of red wine which saved the night from being a total wash.
Rouge is always a pleasure. The menu is fresh and well thought out. We started with a great serving of calamari. One of us had diver scallops and the other had garlic shrimp on homemade pasta. The wine selection was just right. Rouge is small with excellent service. Our waiter, Cameron, was attentive but gave us plenty of time to enjoy. It has been several years since we were in Philadelphia, but this was one place we had on our list to get back to.
A very pleasant neighborhood place with attentive staff and tasty food choices.. atmosphere was to our liking.. will return.. vegetarian options were good too..
It was all good
Rouge is always wonderful. I hadn't been there for a while. The menu is rich and varied. The burger is phenomenal, usually gruyere cheese. The only negative was the noisy work truck doing repairs in Rittenhouse Park. We were seated outside on a beautiful day aand the truck cut into out enjoyment.
We always look forward to our lunch date at Rouge. We are never disappointed. Great food wine and service.
I am usually charmed by Rouge, but I think they were having an off day. The food was just fair and it seemed gloomy somehow. Probably because of the weather. Our waitress was very nice, though, and I would still recommend it. Everybody has an off day now and then.
Good food at a reasonable price for the area; very low key and easy to have a business lunch
great dinner great service with wonderful wine pairing selections. the only issue was we were first seated by the bar which was packed and spilling over into our dining area. the restaurant was essentially empty, yet when we asked to be reseated there was some push back in sitting in the back of the restaurant, away from the front door with a draft from the 20 degree weather outside.
The food is consistently good at Rouge, and it is great sitting at a table by the window facing Rittenhouse Square or outside in warmer weather enjoying the street view.
Went here for lunch the week before Christmas -- it is a very small place so difficult to get reservations. The menu is varied, but doesn't have a lot of options for someone that doesn't like out of the ordinary. Opted for the grill cheese special with soup; the girl cheese had provolone and horseradish cheese with tomato/spinach and the soup was minestrone. The sandwich was great, however the soup was basically a tomato chunk with bits of carrots and very few other vegetables. The waitress was very nice, although service was a bit slow. Not sure if we would try this restaurant again, need to see the menu ahead of time.
The lunch menu has a wide variety of choices from soups salads sandwiches to platters. Everything is always interesting and attractively presented. Service is friendly and efficient. The setting is attractive and comfortable with most seating on banquette. Prices average less than $20 and are excellent value
Loved the food selections and specials — it was hard to decide what to get. The pho was soothing to my cold, and the squash soup was hearty and flavorful. I had hoped for more from the fish tacos, but the romantic ambiance made up for it.
Couldn’t get a seat next door at Parc so decided on Rouge. Rouge was empty! Asked in reservation to be seated at window. That didn’t happen. Dining partner ordered seared tuna salad. Inedible. Tuna had so much gristle it was gross. Sent back for soup which was good but not hot. My veggie burger was good buf nothing special. Won’t be back.
The day boat scallops were delicious and prepared perfectly. My husband had the roasted chicken which was flavorful and tender. The drinks were wonderful and the service was terrific- professional and friendly. I highly recommend Rouge!
The chopped salad was delicious and the bread pudding was amazing! Our server was great too!
Good food, good service, pleasant atmosphere. I recommend it.
Food and wine were excellent . . . service a little slow but the waiter and staff were very pleasant.
Everything was good from the hostess, waiter, food, drinks, and bartender
We ate dinner early because of a 7:30 show. As the restaurant was not yet full, service was quick and noise was low; and because of the warm weather, the windows onto the street were open. All of this was very pleasant. The food was excellent (the scallops with pork belly were unusual and delicious).
Beautiful fall day and a table outside at Rouge, it doesn't get any better! Lunch was good. You can always count on Rouge for a quality meal and fun atmosphere.
I love having lunch at Rouge. It is the closest thing in Philadelphia to the café culture of say - Rome or Paris. Once a seriously hip joint, it has matured into a very pleasant restaurant. I have frequently extolled people of its past and then said the food is good enough to have survived on its own. Rouge is a great place for a business lunch. But even better as a spot to grab a table on the street overlooking the park - get a drink or two - and not go back to work.
Food was very good, service was excellent, but did not appreciate the bar scene. Might be best for those 30 and under.
Always great. Good. Drinks. Buzz. Very approachable environment.
As always this restaurant does not disappoint . Great atmosphere, great service and good food.
Heirloom salad was everything. Mule was delicious.
Lunch food was not very good. Must have been an off day
The food was poor quality and expensive. I was unpleasantly surprised when I walked in and the hostess was wearing a crop top. Not impressed with this restaurant.
Dark and cozy, but sophisticated. Frank gives a whopping two thumbs up.
WE had outdoor seating....it was great weather !!! WE had calamari and a burger. Split both and portions were huge. Our waitress Jill was fabulous!!! Thank you JILL!!!! It's always delicious and the service was the best!!!
Food was delicious - especially the salmon (entree)and brussel sprouts (appetizer)! Our waiter was awesome - attentive and personable and also let us have lots of time at the table just to chat. It was lovely having the windows to the street open. The restaurant did get a little too warm towards the end of the evening but other than that it was great!
I heard a lot about Rouge but after finally having dinner here with a friend, I was a little disappointed. The mussels were not seasoned well, but my entree was better. My dinner partner did like her meal, but our overall experience wasn't what we thought it would be. I guess we should have had a burger.
Food quality and service is not what it use to be.
Cozy and pretty space, with good sidewalk tables, very good food, really nice service. I'm in town for business, didn't want to eat at the hotel and this was a near by Open Table recommendation. I'm glad I went. BTW, the tuna tartare was as good as the waitress suggested.
Finally tried the Rouge burger! Definitely surpassed expectations.
Never fails to disappoint. Great service, food and wine 🍷
Delicious meal! Will definitely return in the future
Wasn't in love with our server and the burger was over cooked. Salmon dish was amazing. Probably Would go back but I would sit at the bar and not get table service.
We enjoyed an evening together outside on rittenhouse square viewing the park
