Come sit, eat, drink, relax and watch the city of Philadelphia go by.
Went for my birthday. Food was very bad— steak cooked well when we asked for medium. We are it anyway because we were simply starving after slow service. Waitress seemed brand new and we were patient but it was just so incredibly slow. A kind estimate would be 15 min before we got our first drink. But the manager did try to make up for it. Except he sent us a hard as a rock lemon tart after I had already sent back a blueberry drink for being way too lemonish. Literal nightmare bday dinner. Will not be back. Will not recommend to others including coworkers.
We drove past the restaurant a couple of times over the weekend, saw how packed it always was, and knew it was a happening place. So we made sure to go there last Sunday and had such a lovely time, sitting outside on a spring evening. The waiter was incredibly nice, informative, and attentive, the food was just delicious, and the setting lovely. I’d go back tomorrow.
Incredible birthday dinner! Do NOT pass up on the waffle praline dessert, melts in your mouth
Nice special occasion lunch. The Rouge burger is as good as ever.
Did not seem as good as it was years ago. Trout dish was small and uninspiring. Burger was big patty but also fine and fries were somewhat cold.
We were outside and asked hostess to turn on the heaters on a very chilly night and it never happened.
Food was good although it came out slow and salty, despite no-salt request. Server (Taylor) was top-flight.
I was very excited to spend my anniversary dinner at Rouge after reading the write up in eater philly since it said the cocktails were designed by someone from Hop Sing Laundry. Instead, I found the service to be slow and confused (we were brought the same appetizer twice, we had to ask for our bottle of wine we ordered twice, and point out that more water would be nice). Except for the negroni, the other cocktails we ordered were watered down. The servers were not particularly pleasant-even after my husband read the bill incorrectly without his glasses and mistakenly left a 30% tip. We decided not to change the tip to a more standard one, but we definitely won’t be going back.
Rouge’s service and renovations disappoint... as a long-time diner at Rouge, I was looking forward to seeing the new look after renovations. It seems that Rouge is imitating airlines: to squeeze a row of tables into the center of the dining room, they have eliminated the grand bar which gave the restaurant glamour and charm. While this is an understandable economic decision, the room has lost lots of its attraction for me. My guest and I sat outdoors on a glorious day and enjoyed a chicken entree, octopus salad and a burrata salad. My guest loved the chicken, I found the burrata salad just ok and was sorely disappointing with the microscopic slices of octopus hidden among my greens! I have dined at Rouge dozens of times and was not impressed with these two appetizers. My Manhattan was just ok.
As to service: I arrived first and was left unattended for about 10 minutes; I finally asked to see my waiter and he told me he thought he’d give me some time to settle in...not exactly the response I wanted to hear. I also asked for some bread to go with appetizers, that never arrived. Had this been my first visit to Rouge, I wouldn’t return; however, I have enjoyed lots of good meals here and will try them again. But I do hope management addresses service issues, including the hostess stand where more finesse may be helpful.
Mediocre at best. An extremely limited and uninteresting menu. Noisy inside. Great location and if you want a burger and can get a table outside its top dollar but it works. If not, go to a restaurant with good food.
Food was delicious. Very loud but energetic crowd. Fun.
We enjoyed a nice, simple lunch of two very delish dishes - mushroom toast and three-chili shrimp - simply divine, in their flavor and texture. Only minor complaint was that the service was slower than it should be, but otherwise a really good experience overall!
The service and ambiance and food were incredible. We had an amazing time!
The old Rouge (pre-renovation) and menu were much better. Dinner was not a memorable one in terms of food.
What a shame, food not very good and menu selections poor. Much better with other menu/chef...sorry
The food was fine, not great. My guest had the 1/2 chicken and enjoyed it. I ordered a burger, which I thought they were known for and it was nothing special. I asked for no butter to be put on my roll, so I got the burger without the roll. I asked for a roll and the waitress said that the rolls are made with butter. Strange! Anyway, the service was soooooo slow! My guest had an hour for lunch and we did not receive our food for what seemed like forever (longer than 1/2 hour for food). The restaurant was about 10% full, so I can't imagine what took so long for our food to come out. Additionally, the food is way overpriced, for what it is. I don't see myself going back any time soon.
The cocktails were extraordinary and the food was wonderful. The portions are moderate size but with plenty of flavor. The scallops were crispy, cooked to perfection and delicious. The trout in Bechamel sauce was amazing. The lamb cigar was a surprising treat with the most wonderful spice dipping sauce. Great food in a fantastic setting. Sidewalk sitting with a view of the park was an added treat. Rouge was a trailblazer on Rittenhouse dining that remains up to date--a classic!
food was good, always stop in when in Philly!! Love the hamburger!
I’m not sure what was worse, the service or the food? If you want to have a drink at the bar, your probably ok! There are a hundred better restaurants in the city where you can get a good meal and good service. I’ve never been to a restaurant where the waitress asked what you would like for desert and then comes back 5 minutes later and says “the chef didn’t make desert today”. Just a bad experience! Won’t make that mistake again!
Water glasses were left empty throughout dinner, our meals all arrived at different times with up to five minutes waiting for the last to arrive, our waitress rarely came back to the table.
Best burger in town.
Food has become very disappointing
Honestly the location and atmosphere were great, the food was okay but our server was terrible. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2p.m. for a late lunch. We were a 4 top. We ordered cocktails, a shareable appetizer for the table and then individual entrees. There were long wait times between refills and courses. We had to ask twice about the cheese board (which was nothing special when it finally arrived). We ordered a bottle of wine which our server asked one of us to open (instead of seeking help from a coworker because she was struggling) and then she got a little snarky and said to give the bottle back before someone saw and she got into trouble. We didn't mind helping but that was odd. We had to ask about entrees. One of the burgers came out incorrectly cooked, it was served rare instead of medium. We hated to say anything because of the wait but everyone was gracious enough to have another burger prepared. Maybe our server was new, didn't know how to time manage or she was just having an off day. Not really sure I would recommend to friends or family visiting Philly.
New renovation and staff , also new chef sucks don't waste your money unless you are drinking wine or beer or any other bottled drinks, cocktails are a rip off. I use to love rouge now it's just mediocre at best
Not as good as before the renovation, which is so sad. The burger was fine but not nearly as good as before and they took the Brussels sprouts off the menu. I don’t know why they would have changed the best burger in the world but my husband and I are very sad about it. Bring back the brussel sprouts and the old burger!
Very limited menu. Food was good not great. Great location and service was very friendly.
The restaurant was reopened after a refresher. Couldn’t tell
Much of a difference. The menu is limited. Ok food just not memorable.
Love the renovation and new menu! We had brunch on Sunday and everything we ordered, the hamachi crudo, oysters, lobster scramble with big, succulent chunks, eggs in hell and, of course, the classic Rouge burger, were delicious! Wine selection is also well curated. The much anticipated return of a Rittenhouse staple hits the ball out of the park!
Disappointed and no desire to come back. We were looking forward to having a dinner after renovations. We have been regulars for the past 16 years. How could the owners decide to get rid off the gorgeous oval bar, that was a signature of Rouge? Restaurant lost its charm. Food was mediocre. Wine was not great. Rouge was the place we could always count on. We used to take our out of town friends to Rouge. Not anymore.
New chef, new menu, poor selections. I am an adventuresome and fairy knowledgeable eater, but this missed in every category. The quality was decent but two scallops at $20 was not wonderful. No bread offered, inattentive and amateurish service. Crossing off my list except to meet a friend for a cocktail.
We received a gift card for Rouge and made a reservation on OpenTable. We received confirmation before via Opentable. However, no one let us know it is closed, whether it will reopen and how to get the money for the gift card which they sold knowing they were closing. The voice recording says it is closed for renovations and to check the website for updates. But the website is down. They should not have sold gift cards if they knew they were closing and should not have accepted a reservation if they were not open for business.
Very friendly and accommodating, great burgers and truffle fries. Intimate bar. Casual or Fancy.
I went looking for a quiet place to talk in a beautiful environment with good food. I’ve been there a few times but this time the bar was filled with Eagles fans and the noose and ruckus almost had us leave. We spoke to a female young manager who said”it’s a bar”
Now I know . They did say if it if for crazy they would ask them to tone it down but I really didn’t know it was a post game kinda rowdy bar. The food was good.. nice waiter but not what I was looking for for ambiance. The bar is really pretty so if you a looking for a loud fun time with good food, this is your place.
Wasn’t that busy, initially
Kitchen seemed a little slow
My favorite restaurant in Philadelphia--the food is consistently good, great choices of wines and cocktails and the waitstaff is the best in the city.
Fun restaurant! Delicious food, dark, and cozy. A little loud, but everyone seemed to be having a great time.
This was our first time at Rouge, and it will not be our last. The food was truly amazing and the service was exceptional.
La mejor hamburguesa de Phila y las mejores patatas con aroma de trufa.
Our Favorite place for lunch!! Best service and delicious food!!! Always look forward to a Fabulous meal and very attentive service!!
Food was over cooked they apologized and paid for one drink
The ambience and service wasn't great! It was really hot and stuffy in there. Rushed through our meal. Good tasting food but sadly couldn't enjoy it.
