Rothmann's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Food, as always, was fantastic and plentiful. Station chefs were wonderful, well skilled, and accomodating. The place was busy, yet very comfortable.
This time our service was poor which is not the norm. Our server did not ask if we would like to order another drink, did not offer coffee until we asked for the check, did not bring accessories for lobsters nor the bowl to disgard the shells. He did NOT derserve the automatic 18% gratuity on the check.
Been coming here for years, sometimes the food can be inconsistent, however, lately it has been on the money. Oysters were excellent! Swordfish was delicious and five of us had the surf and turf which was a generous portion of each and cooked to perfection. Good service! Will be back again later this month!
Food was hit and miss. We were there for brunch. It is expensive, but I'm willing to pay if the food is excellent with service to match. Sadly, I can only day the food was good, not excellent. What was excellent was the skirt steak, the roast beef, the clams on the half shell, the shrimp, and the omlette station. What wasn't great was the lobster (very tough), eggs Benedict (or what they try to pass off as), deviled eggs (tasteless). It was not a horrible experience by any means. But for $50 a person for brunch, everything should be excellent, not just select things. Service was not great, which is saying something for a buffet. Table was slowed to be cleaned. Also a turn off was that they automatically add 18% gratuity regardless of your party size. I have no problem leaving 20% or even 25% for excellent service. This was not excellent service. And it wasn't full service. It was a buffet. Ledt disappointed feeling a little ripped off.
We had an 11:00 reservation and they do not open the doors to the restaurant until 11:00. We were a party of five. We were brought to main room at a booth style table which was not conducive seating for a buffet. We asked for another table and were seated in the library room and It was freezing in that room. The service was ok, but the waiter was not friendly in fact he was acting like he was annoyed at something. We finished our entire meal, dessert too and then he told us we can each have a free mimosa, Bellini or Bloody Mary...really perhaps he should have mentioned that sooner as we were there to celebrate our daughters 25th birthday. The food was very good. The only exception was the chilled lobster. It was so cold that we had to wait a bit to eat it. I probably would not go back for brunch.
We dined at Rothmann's in East Norwich on Xmas eve. For a restaurant that I have long rated as being among my top three (3) favorites (#2 in NY and #3 on the East coast), our dining experience that evening was dismal and discouraging. We had secured the 6:30 pm dinner reservation through Open Table on Nov. 14, 2017 - 6 weeks in advance. As the 12/24 date approached, we had twice directly confirmed with Rothmann's by phone regarding the 6:30 seating. As is our custom, we arrived 10 minutes early. At 6:30, the table wasn't yet available and we were left standing until 7:05. The entree requested by one of my guests was cooked incorrectly and was sent back to the kitchen. The table bill included a double billing entry for a 2nd drink not ordered. When the reservation was made, we had requested to be seated in a quieter section (called the Library) and requested by name the services of a specific server (waiter). A follow up phone call acknowledge our requests but informed us it was too early to know if the room and server would be available. In a confirming return phone call that I made on 12/23, to assure our intent to keep the 12/24 table reservation, I was again told the requested room and sever were still uncertainties. When we arrived, neither the room nor the server were available. A discreet inquiry informed that both had been requested and booked many weeks in advance. I wasn't surprised but was left with asking myself why wasn't Rothmann's simply candidly truthfully about the room and waiter having been assigned prior to our reservation requests. Rhetorical Q - Why lead us on falsely? It certainly left us with a bad impression. Overall, on Xmas eve, we expected a much higher level of quality service from Rothmann's. Will we return to Rothmann's - ? - yes, probably. But I think, going forward, not so frequently.
Food was excellent, service was unattentive. We we're seated across from the bar and by the window. There was several knats ( bugs ) flying around the table thruout our dinner, definitely a Board of Health violation. Note that the table behind us complained of the same problem and were moved for their dessert. Sadly this was my wife's birthday and family Christmas Eve dinner that was ruined by insects.
We arrived for a 6 PM RESERVATION AND WERE SEATED RIGHT AWAY. The restaurant was mobbed. We were seated near a very large family with many small children. They had been there awhile so the children were restless. The children were running around and way too loud. The adults ignored them, I guess enjoying their meals and conversations. It made it unpleasant for a small group of adults to try to have a conversation. The wait staff couldn’t even hear our order. I know it was Christmas Eve, but for several years we have gone at 5 PM and been seated without small children around us and the experience was much more pleasant. We will give it another try next year going back to a 5 PM reservation. Hopefully, it will be more like our previous experiences. I love children and had a very noisy Christmas day at my home, but that was not what we wanted on Christmas Eve. Maybe there should be A section without small children. The wait staff wasn’t as attentive, either. It was like since we weren’t a problem, we were ignored. It was definitely not like the usual Rothman’s experience. The food was exceptionally good. Each one of us loved our meal.
This is not a restaurant that normally caters to children, but we arrived none the less with a two year and a two month old! The staff was totally accommodating and did everything to make them comfortable, warming milk and serving chicken fingers! Sorry for the mess they left, even though they were on their best behavior! But no one complained - especially the staff! Thank you, Rothmann’s!
The ambience is wonderful and out waiter was great. I was seated at a table where every time a waiter went by, they would inadvertently pushed or brushed by my chair so it was a little bit uncomfortable. I had the lamb chops and they were great. My date had a steak and he enjoyed it . The asparagus were too thick and boiled and void of taste. Service was great but I think it was a little overpriced. Dinner for two came to $350.00 with two drinks and one appetizer.
waited for almost two hours to be served our entrees. place was empty, but service non existent for our table of five. no excuse for this, given the prices charged (i.e. i waited almost two hours for my steak, prices at almost $200.00). They recognized their error after we raised the issue on a number of occasions and offered dessert on the house. i politely refused as i would rather have my two hours back and feel they should have comped the whole meal under the circumstances.
After an acceptable 5 minute wait at the front, we were seated in the far back room amidst a birthday party of 16, which was a tad noisy, but certainly festive! We had a fantastic dinner celebrating my wife's birthday. and the filet's and a rib eye hit the spot, but sadly the prime rib ran out just as we ordered! Also a small pet peeve of under cooked asparagus...which was a minor flaw considering the exquisite flavor of the meat. Bravo once again....we will be back!
A wonderful atmosphere for celebrating a special occasion - or for an extra special meal. The octopus appetizer was crisp and well grilled. The raw clams were extremely fresh. Our petite filet mignon was especially tender and extremely flavorful. My guests couldn't stop raving about Rothmann's and what a fabulous night was had by all.
