Rosy's at the Beach Ratings and Reviews
Went back for more Crab. Rosy's is one of the few places around the south bay that advertises that they have Crab. Being a crab lover and not wanting to miss out. Rosy's gets my business.
Crab melt was excellent as was the service.
When you go back to a place you like that is the best review you can give.
Rosy had sent out an email letting it customers know that the Crab was in. So the wife and I went down to get some or Rosy's Crab Linguini. At first we were told that there crab had not been shelled yet and the only available crab was half or whole crabs. Thinking we had come to early we were them informed by our server that the cooks went the extra mile and shelled some of the crab to make us the linguini that we have craved.
Just goes to show that Rosy will do the extra for her customers.
We had a very pleasant experience at Rosy's. The food isn't mind blowing but it was good. Staff was friendly and attentive. Had a nice laid back vibe and not too crowded or noisy. The clam chowder and their fresh baked bread was our favorite thing we ordered.
Overall, the menu was very good, great wine list and good food. Had it not been for the slow, inattentive service, I would have given a much better rating. The menu and wine list were at the "white tablecloth" level, but things like not bringing appetizer plates, not providing utensils with each course (we had three), etc. brought it down to "just alright." We had to ask several times for plates, utensils, water refills, extra sauce, etc. We sat outside, which was really nice, but very noisy with muscle cars cruising up and down Monterey and two rounds of fire trucks. Would probably go back, but not for a special night out.
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. We especially enjoyed the bruschetta and the special bar drinks, the island martini and the pink mermaid were great .. My husband and I look forward to stopping by again....
Rosy's has been recommended by friends and my sandwich of Black Forest Ham with Brie was just okay. It was light on the brie, the balsamic onions overwhelmed the flavors of the sandwich so I removed most of them. The slaw on the side had no flavor but the truffled fries were very good. The Pink Mermaid martini was too sweet. I should of asked the waitress if it was on the sweeter side because if she said "yes" then I wouldn't of ordered it. So that was my mistake. My sisters salad looked delicious and she said it was and my friends open faced tuna sandwich looked equally delicious but she didn't say anything to that effect, so I can't speak for her. All in all, it's an adorable place, I will go back to try other items because there were many I wanted to try.
Celebrating Mother's Day dinner. Our waitress was very pleasant, but lacked attentiveness. She did not bring us any bread when asked during drink order, or check in for drink refills & general meal follow-up. Unfortunately, my companion's ahi was not quality grade & was halfway un-edible due to a bad cut. Our lobster tails & chicken pasta entrees were good. They did offer us a free take home dessert & did not charge us for the ahi entree or soft drinks. Otherwise, our dining was okay except that my companion was once again left unimpressed with Rosy's. :(
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars for everything was because we were seated at a table meant for 4 with 6 people. Elbow room made it somewhat difficult to eat comfortably and get all the plates and drink glasses on the table. There were also bread and butter dishes on the table taking up space, but no bread was ever served. Otherwise, it was all excellent!
Usually great food. This time however, the chef who was cooking fish didn't give a darn about his customers or quality. I ordered Pepper Crusted Ahi. It came out w/o any pepper. No big deal I sent it back and specifically requested that they give me a new cut of Ahi. If it was to be executed properly they needed to start with a new cut. It returned, same piece, over cooked because he just took the oil covered Ahi, rubbed ground pepper on it and then reheated it. Garbage! Used to go there twice a month and spend $150 each time. Never again til we hear they replaced that cook.
Service was slow and three of our six meals were bland and unappetizing. We didn't eat them. The waitress never checked back with us after the food was delivered so by the time we were done, the bus boy cleared our plates and asked if we were satisfied. We said no and he told the manager who looked at us but never approached us. When the waitress finally returned with the bill she said we should have told her we weren't happy, then offered us free desserts. By then we just wanted to leave. We felt, with the poor service and undesirable food, that we should have been refunded the three meals we did not eat. We all agreed we will never go back there again or recommend it to anyone.
