In a place (Rutland, VT) that continues to struggle economically, Roots offers a more urban alternative to the basic fare served by they competition.

I found most of the entrees were sweet with either maple syrup apples or coconut.
More savory dishes.
Calamari was oily.
Not many choices in town.

Stopped in for lunch today. Service was great and our lunch came out quickly and it was delicious!

Incredible food and service. Completely blew us away especially the fondue. We were in Woodstock for a long weekend and it’s worth coming to VT just to visit Roots. Make sure to visit, the food and service are top notch and you may be lucky enough to catch some live music while you’re there.

I had lunch with a friend the day before and enjoyed it so much booked dinner last night. A wonderful gem in the city. Great food and service and the singer was very very good. Will return often. Thanks for such a great place!

Roots The Restaurant is a great venue with delicious food and helpful servers. Always enjoy eating here when I visit Rutland (which, by the way, is a gem as well).

We went to Roots for a birthday celebration. We had excellent service and the food was delicious. The speed of the kitchen was commendable. One of our favorite spots!

We chose to eat outdoors as we had two dogs with us. Our waitress and food were outstanding. Highlights were the pork belly appetizer and the burger. We also had the pulled pork and a grilled Caesar salad with chicken. Everyone enjoyed their food. Excellent craft beer choices as well. Would definitely come back.

The new Roots needs some help with ambiance. At the old location you felt like you were in a special bistro. Kelly made great drinks and everything was special, including service, servers and the menu. The latest space addition just adds to the feeling that the new location isn’t special. Not saying it is a cafeteria, but it needs help. The unique quality of the old menu seems to also have been lost. the risotto with shrimp was good. I did miss the emu,,, The cod was not only good but had the snazzy presentation of the “old” Roots. We recognize it is harder these days to run a restaurant given the staffing issues and provide great quality and service, but when you have a hit, sometimes it makes sense not to dilute it too much. Hoping the NEW Roots can become the OLD Roots but with more space. Our server went above and beyond. And it was her first night working there. She deserved kudos for doing a great job.

We had a high top in the bar area and I think that is the best place to sit unless it is warm enough to be outside. The food was great along with a decent wine selection by the glass (we aren't beer drinkers). Our server, Lee Ann, if I remember her name correctly, was excellent which in these times of staff shortages a real pleasure to find.

Excellent waiter, the food was outstanding, and we sat outside, it was truly a wonderful experience. We will return.

We are since 2020 in the US. This was almost the best outdoor dining experience we had!

We absolutely loved the food. We are in Vermont (from the Washington DC area) to celebrate my guy’s very special birthday. This restaurant was a great choice. The food was delicious and offered somewhat unusual takes on well known ingredients. My only complaint was that we were at the back of the restaurant and my seat looked directly into the kitchen. That was unappealing and they should make some effort to put a baffle on the door or somehow obstruct the view for seated guests. / This afternoon, I received a confirmation call to make sure we would be coming in for our reservation. At the time of the call, I was offered very helpful and explicit information on where to park and where the restaurant was located behind the iron gates. Had I not gotten that information, I’m sure it would’ve been a less auspicious beginning to our evening meal. / if we are back in this area, we will make a point of visiting the restaurant but we will also make sure to request a different table location.

The staff members were accommodating, kind, and they work as a team. Food was delivered quickly and every item was delicious! We are heading there for the third night in a row!

Food and service were excellent, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. Love this place. The corner where we were sitting was a little stark, and the lighting was a bit severe, but that certainly didn't diminish the overall experience. Can't wait to return.

Donald has upped his game over the past few months. The food is better than ever.
But, I Still wish he would change his menu more. I find it too dark inside for lunch, and too noisy if you want to have a business meeting.

We had a nice dinner outside in the patio. The service was excellent. I had the salmon special which was served with an ancho chili sauce and Mango salsa over jasmine rice. There wasn’t as much heat as I was expecting with an ancho chili sauce and the mango salsa and jasmine rice did not add any exciting flavors to the dish. Having said that, I would return for another visit, and try another dish. My husband had the braised pork which was quite tasty.

Food was tasty and beautiful. I would have liked a little more space from my fellow diners. There were quite a few bees around, which, not sure they can do anything about that, but it was a little stressful.

Still dreaming about the brussel sprout appetizer. Everything was great from the service to the cocktails, apps, and main courses. Also had pork belly app which was delicious and cod over scallion rice for dinner. Wife had the salmon with soy glaze which was excellent. I highly reccomend! One thing to note....Waze took us to a side street. The entrance to this restaurant is through a gate on Washington Street across from Rutland City Hall.
