Our filet mignon and rack of lamb were superb. The veggie accompaniment was also excellent! The spinach salad was amazing. Our servers were excellent—didn’t hover but were there when we needed them.
We tried three cocktails from the bar menu—good but not excellent. The creme brûlée was average.
We will be returning soon, very soon—the food is too good not to.
Enjoyed a unique avocado & crab 'salad' that was so delicately seasoned, my tongue couldn't stop smiling. I wish there had been a few more 'greens' to go with it but the overall dish was stunning to look at and delicious to eat. The quiet in the restaurant during lunch was much appreciated too. It's usually a bit too noisy for me at dinner.
The food was delicious. My wife started with the tomato soup & I had the Caesar salad with anchovies. We shared the large rib-eye steak with mashed potatoes and peas.
The entre was prepared perfectly. We shared
the fresh peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
We were visiting the Vancouver area and also celebrating an anniversary. Roots came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Everything from cocktails through dessert was outstanding! What we liked the most was not being rushed. Very friendly and respectful wait staff that allowed us to take our time; comfort is a priority. Fresh, imaginative food and ambiance also make it a very special place.
The menu and ingredients here were fantastic. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. The crab and avocado appetizer was great. The rest of the meal just flat out did not deliver. The ingredients were there but the execution of the dishes just was off. Not seasoned correctly/at all, proportions of items in salads were all over the place etc... maybe it was just an off night but for the creativity of the menu and quality of ingredients we expected much better
We were seated right away next to a window with good lighting. Server was awesome, nice wine list, and food was spectacular! A bit on the higher end price wise, but quality of food made it worth it. The only (small) issue, it was a bit loud which made it hard for me to hear. Overall, will definitely come back.
It had been awhile since we had been to Roots so it was time to enjoy their amazing food again. I had actually thought of going there for Fathers' Day Brunch but waited too long for reservations ... so we went for dinner the evening before. As always, fantastic food. We started with the flatbread as an appetizer wonderfullly flavorful. We then split a spinich salad which was very nice. For main courses, my wife had the line caught salmon; it was perfectly prepared (I know as I was able to snag a bite). I had the sea scallops (one of the specials for the night); simply delicious. We topped things off with the chocolate mousse cake that is so creamy. The food at Roots has never disappointed us.
We came here to celebrate my grandmother's birthday, and it could not have been a more gratifying experience. Meesh, our lovely server, was so knowledgeable and hospitable. She answered all of our questions and had great suggestions. The food was delightful! Great presentation, and wonderful flavor and texture combinations. We ordered the Puget Sound mussels as well as the crab and avocado starter to get the party started. For our midcourse, we enjoyed the Kind Fisher Farms spinach salad and the soup of the day, a ham and white bean soup. Delectable! For our entrees, I ordered the line caught king salmon, grandma had the pork chop, and my significant other ordered the braised beef short ribs. All of these dishes rocked our tastebuds. So much so that even though we were stuffed, we still ordered a dessert... The toffee cake with vanilla bean ice cream. It was to die for! Because we were all so excited to dig into our different delicacies I only snagged photos of our mains. Regardless, this place is worth coming to if you live in the Vancouver/Portland metro area. You won't regret it!
Mother's Day, and as busy as they were, we received excellent service. I even was served a dish not on the Mother's Day brunch menu (normal on regular brunch menu). Brother is on very salt restricted diet, and the kitchen fully obliged. Marvelous food, had a great time.
This was our second visit to Roots; the first for dinner and this for Saturday Brunch. Both times the food was excellent and the service outstanding. The decor is a bit worn and dated and food on the carpet was not yet cleaned up (at 2:00PM). Our dinner was on a Friday evening and the noise level was very high due to after work partying. But it is a bright spot in the otherwise sparse restaurant world of Vancouver.
Roots was a joy. We'd been years before and though the kitchen was fine, the service was not. In their price range we were annoyed. Now is very different as everything works and works very well. Everything we ordered was terrific and our server Patricia was a joy terrific; knowledgeable with a delightful attitude. Obviously we will be back and as often as we can.
