Roots Restaurant and Bar
Not fancy, although expensive. But the food is awesome! Good service too.
Absolutely the best meal we have had out in a long time - everything the chef prepared was stellar with an explosion of flavor. Definitely will return
Showed up early, no problem. Ignored at first, then Andrew did a great job as a waiter. A bit expensive but good food. Not great, but good.
Another excellent meal, this time with a large group. That pastrami sandwich is a taste sensation!
Food and atmosphere is always enjoyable, celebrated a birthday and everyone had a great time.
Great meal(s) enjoyed by our party of 5. Salmon, pork and chicken dishes. All outstanding.
Fabulous food we are regulars I love the cocktails and the friendly staff and fish is always top notch
It’s a good place for a celebration or just a relaxing happy hour with good selection.
Prompt service, attentive server and delicious food.
Always a delicious meal and good service thank you
Service, food and atmosphere were fabulous! Can’t beat it in the East Vancouver/Camas area!
Took Mom here for Mother’s Day dinner. She loved it! We all did! Food was excellent. Very attractive restaurant. The only critique I could offer was that due to it being Mother’s Day, the place was very busy, which caused the noise level to go up and the service to slow down.
Yes I would recommend, however I was disappointed in the SERVICE this time. I have patronized Roots since the first day it opened (special invite to my then employer) whenever in area, and it has been a very good standby for celebrations with family. However this last time (Mother's Day Sunday 2019), the plates were brought out in this order: Husband and myself (pause aprox 2-3 minutes), mother-in law's husband (pause 5 minutes), Mother-in law! Any waiter worth his salt would have noted HER order (obviously eldest woman at table on Mother's Day) and made sure kitchen presented hers first if there had to be delays in bringing meals. We waited for her meal before we started eating so of course our meals got cold. The food itself was quite good, even if they did not plan enough for people ordering the German pancakes (MIL husband disappointed as is on no salt diet). I sincerely hope that they are not letting their standards slip, because when this occurs in a restaurant, people go elsewhere.
Excellent food and service. A little noise coming from a very young child.
The food here is always delicious. Always have a hard time deciding. The servers are friendly and attentive. Great place to dine!
They could use a little more staffing. Food was creative, using fresh ingredients.
We had dinner, and while it was excellent, The tab for our party of 4, with only one person having wine, and only 2 glasses, was $275. We had the steak, the short ribs and halibut. All very good, as were salads and desserts. We chose the bar area because it's a bit easier to hear on that side. Very pleasant space. Wait staff was friendly, but a bit too attentive, with constant interruptions, asking about refills if drinks we said we'd had enough of. I think I'll stick to lunch and happy hour, when I'm not purposely looking to splurge.
We had a lovely Easter dinner the risotto was out of this world with balsamic glaze and my kids loved all the desserts we ordered always a delicious meal
Good place with great service. Food is a little over priced for portion and quality but still a good place to visit. Will be back and do recommend.
had amazing salmon and polenta for lunch always my favorite go to place for a wonderful lunch
nice, upper class meal. is louder then I would like. steak was excellent. chicken stuffed needed more bacon and cheese
Wonderful birthday dinner. Greg our server pampered us just enough without bothering us too much. The food, ohmygawd, best rib eye steak I've had in a few decades. The duck liver pate, superb! Will definitely be back for the next special occasion.
I have already notified my facebook friends how much MaryRose and I enjoyed our 52nd Anniversary dinner at Root's. Our waitperson was Andy and he provided excellent service. Food was terrific and the Rack of Lamb was done to perfection. You can bet that we will be back in the future. Thanks again for making our 52nd good.
Please take steps to reduce the noise level. Very annoying.
Great service and feel. Food is excellent value top 10 steak for sure
Service was s little off this time.
The special- schnitzel- was a delightful cold weather dinner. Had the creme brulee for dessert and it was lovely.
Love the Happy Hour Menu. Dinner was wonderful. Service was great.
Second time coming here for Valentine's Day and well worth it. Asparagus appetizer was fantastic with polenta croutons. Wedge salad was tasty and plentiful and the scallop main course was cooked perfectly and complimented by garlic spinach and mashed potatoes. Highly recommend
Cauliflower soup was delicious. Shared the chicken brie sandwich with a friend. A little dry and more bread than chicken. Fries great. But just would pick something else next time.
This restaurant has a lot of memories of my family meeting here, including my late mother. It is our favorite place to celebrate and absolutely worth the splurge.
Restaurant was is stylish, the booth is comfortable, but the chairs are not very comfortable. There’s a draft that runs through the front of the restaurant. Liked the menu selections. Food flavor is very average, Hey Jack does a better job with flavors and creating an intimate fun dining environment. Before leaving Hey Jack, you can’t wait to return.
The pork chop served was beautiful, but average in taste. Nothing special despite sounding special. Doesn’t vanilla brined sound mouthwatering divinely delicious? Spoiler alert: It was just mediocre and what was disappointing was that it was served very rare. On the plus side: the presentation was elegant and the portions were generous.
The Petrale sole was nicely prepared, not overcooked with a crispy texture. The petrale sole had a standard presentation. I say this because this is how I serve it at home and I have no culinary training. Both the mash potatoes and spinach were over salted.
Service could be tweaked a bit. For one thing, we always appreciate it when servers welcome their customers and introduce themselves. There were gaps of time where we wondered where the server or our food was, but to be noted: everyone serving was polite.
It’s a decent restaurant, but when I take my guests out, I want it to be a memorable dining experience. If I am not plotting my return by dessert, the restaurant may be good, but not good enough to make a loyal patron out of me.
I love having breakfast at Roots. The German pancake is a great addition to the menu. It can be your main dish- or shared as a dessert after your eggs.
We made a reservation for Sunday Brunch, but if you get there right around opening you'll be fine. Big groups start showing up after that. The noise got to be a bit much. They've made efforts to curtail it, and we really weren't sure it was the acoustics or the people. Service was awesome. Very friendly. Ate every bite of our Spinach Eggs Benedict. Will return.
My wife’s 65th Birthday. Roots never disappoints - from the liver patté with wildflower honey appetizer to the warm apple crisp dessert, all was delicious.
Delicious nice the potatoe leek soup
Fabulous chicken and biscuit dish always a delicious meal
Great consistent quality. Rich does a great job.
