We will heartily miss this spot. The food was amazing and creative. The drink were fantastic. Excellent dining for an anniversary, two years in a row. Beautiful menu.

We just enjoyed the weekly wine dinner menu every dish was off the chart! The shrimp ceviche was amazing served with a light citrus sauce and not sitting in to much liquid like most are served. The "chicken pot pie" was the winner though with crunchy flaky buttery bread and crispy chicken with all the fixings...Awesome! Finally for dessert chocolate on chocolate on chocolate...wow! my favorite decadent dessert done right! We will be back next week for sure!
Excellent meal and service as always. We love the chef tasting menu because its always something new. We also suggest getting a chefs pairing because you get the best of the bar between cocktails, wine, and beer. Looking forward to joining Roots again soon. Great work guys always a pleasure dining with you!
We absolutely adore this neighborhood gen for some of the most well prepared creative foods and drink in all of Long Island. Outstanding preparation of locally sourced ingredients meant to delight your palate as well as make you question your own flavor preferences. Quaint atmosphere for bold flavorings and nuanced pairings. Just go!

Delicious and innovative. Every item we selected off the menu from the oysters to the lobster with celery mouse was fantastic! The presentation was beautiful and the staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable. Definitely will go back soon.
Have been to roots a few times. This occasion, drinks, appetizers and dessert were fantastic, however the dinner was not the best I have had at this restaurant. Nice presentation but the sauce with the fish was a bit bland.
Made a last-minute reservation at 8:45 on the way there. Even though the kitchen was due to close at 9 PM, the staff was warm and welcoming and we never felt rushed. The food is Amazing! The cocktails are Amazing! They have an awesome wine and beer menu. This place is really quite wonderful.
Our waitress was lacking in personality so much so that the highlight of the service was the busboy who was very friendly. While the food was tasty the portions were ridiculously small! I don't mind paying top dollar for good food but I don't want to leave hungry! I will not be returning....
Had a octopus pastrami, didn't think that would work, boy was I wrong. OUTRAGEOUS!! Friday night band One Step Ahead was icing on the cake , they are amazing! Lots of fun a must do again!!
Mediocre food for top dollar. I have no problem paying almost $50/meal but I think the food should be worth at least that. $15 per glass of house wine. Manhattan prices
Overbooked for valentines an extra hour wait from the actual reservation. Many people left. Just a terrible experience altogether. Maybe try another day.
Advertised as gluten free, however none of the menu items on the Valentine's Day menu could be modified for food allergies. We were left with two items on the regular menu, one of which was sold out. On top of this, even after letting the hostess and the waitress know that we were gluten free, they tried serving us bread twice, and once said " I think it's gluten free" when it was not. We left and went else where for our meal. Would not recommend this restaurant as gluten free friendly as advertised.
Second time dining here. The food is very good but prices are high, portions small. Not sure that 3 very small chicken medallions topped with a cream sauce and a tablespoon of mashed potatoes warrants $34 even though it was delicious. Also had the Quailducken, very small but very tasty. This dish came with an unpleasant grainy whipped maple smear (no vegetable or starch), strange. Drinks, bartender and appetizers were outstanding. During our first visit service was "okay", not great, not terrible. This time service was almost nonexistent. Had to get up to get our own drinks, took over 20 minutes for server to arrive, said she was going to get bread and didn't come back for another 15 minutes...no bread. Busser came and asked to clear the table when we hadn't been served anything yet...no bread. Waited another 20 minutes for appetizers...no bread. Finally flagged someone down and asked for bread, they also brought the mise en place at that point, just minutes before our dinner was finally served. Waited a good long time after done with our meal for the check. We will return because the food is very good but be prepared to pay a lot for it and don't expect exceptional service to come with the exceptional price tag.
Roots is always consistently good food and great hospitality. Drinks are innovative and beer is good.

We both had the Chefs tasting menu. My wife is vegan. So her dishes were completely different than mine. She raved about each course and her cocktails were wonderful. My tasting menu was terrific as well. The presentation was great, the explanation of each dish was and its wine pairing was friendly and professional. We look forward to returning soon. I highly recommend roots bistro.

Excellent food. Was a bit loud on a Friday night but food and service superb and compensated for it. Drinks were fantastic.
After years of passing this restaurant and wanting to try it out when I finally went there on a Saturday night. I can't tell you how the food is because did not even have a chance to try it. My husband and I had a 8:30 reservation and did not even get seated until 9:40. When they sat us down we were so close to the table next to me I thought about introducing myself since I would basically be eating dinner with them. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt, even though my husband wanted to leave after the 1/2 hr. mark, because of how badly I wanted to try the restaurant. But when I looked in the next room- after passing an open table in the bar- I saw two more open tables to fit 4 people at but because we were only 2 we were squeezed. I finally had enough we got up to leave and told the waitress why we were leaving. In the middle of telling the waitress the manager came over listed for one second heard me complaining and ran away. I was planning on coming back but after the manager of the restaurant didn't even have the decentsy to listen or even apologize but choose to run away I will never go back. My experience shows how the treat their customers. Apparently their food is so great we can wait for them and what we have to say does not matter. Which is very disappointing on many levels.
I have been there 5 or 6 times and every time I make a Rez for a time I always wait at LEAST an hour and a half. I won't return for this reason and the food has def gone down hill big time for the price. The drinks aren't good anymore as well. Very sad I enjoyed it there
I went here for restaurant week. Been meaning to try this place over one year. I went solo and felt very comfortable there. I am so happy I went as the food is phenomenal. I ordered off the prix fixe menu for restaurant week. The risotto lollipops are to die for! It was paired with a dry Alsatian wine. I then had the brandy chicken entree paired with vignoier - fantastic. I didn't think it could get any better until I had dessert which was a butterscotch pot de creme paired with a port- so smooth! I never enjoyed a wine with dessert. This was a superb combination. I'm glad I stopped "waiting to go" and finally went !

Great eclectic cuisine, wonderfully cheerful owner and manager, and a great wine and beer pairing option. The happy hour is quite good as well. This is an excellent location for a romantic night out or a date, given the quaint and cozy feel to it. Two thumbs up!
Restaurant Week Menu was excellent! I honestly can't agree with some of these reviewers as they must not dine out much. The price fixe menu was well put together all dishes had great flavor and were not just slop on a plate like you see at most other restaurant week menus in our area. Sure, there was a wait, but its $27.95 so that should be expected. We sat down at bar and enjoyed the bar menu and perfectly made cocktails and then were seated. Dinner was excellent and every course was sized appropriately. I enjoyed the Winter Salad and Lamb Shank which was super tender and crusted with a lemon crunch that gave the dish excellent texture. My group likes to eat and we dine at Roots often. This was one of the best restaurant week menus we have had yet. If you really want a treat you should join them for a chef tasting with pairing as its creative, tasty, and always something new. Service is always on point and kudos to the new manager Paul as he kept us entertained the whole meal with his pairings. See you guys again soon!
We dined at Roots for Restaurant Week and it was EXCELLENT! My husband enjoyed the Octopus and Lamb Shank and I had the Raw Beef and Chicken. It was very crowded for restaurant week as it is a only $27.95 for a 3 course meal. There was a slight wait but that was to be expected for this type of deal. We dine with Roots all the time and we consider it to be a Gem for our local area compared to all the other selections near us that don't even come close. Its like dining in Manhattan without the drive! Thanks Roots... Keep up the great work!
The food was delicious. The wine pairing was a good value. Enjoyed our evening out very much but I felt the there wasn't enough space between tables. Would definitely go again.

Third visit to this restaurant, and once again it was a fantastic experience . Food was awesome , and my waitstaff was knowledgeable about the dishes I had asked about. I have recommended this restaurant before and l will continue to do so
My second visit to Roots for restaurant week. Happy hour very good and bartender very personable. Was pretty quiet at 530 but given it was restaurant week, it quickly filled in. Food delicious (although duck a bit salty) and took a bit of time for the food but hey, it's all prepared fresh so worth it! Would definitely go back again. Love the happy hour cocktails and appetizers.
They seemed underprepared for restaurant week. We had a reservation for 730pm and didn't get seated until 9pm. The food was excellent and our server was very nice. Would like to try it again when it is not restaurant week to know if that was a fluke or not.
We went during restaurant week. Had to wait almost 1 hour for a 7:30 reservation portions were sparse. The salad, while good, was not a large portion. I had the lamb shank, which was a little to well done for my taste was also on the skimpy side for a lamb shank. Would think twice about going back for their
Regular priced menu. I do not think that they put their best foot forward.
Wonderful evening. We had always wanted to try Roots and we took advantage of their Restaurant Week promotion. Hands down the best onion soup and duck that I have ever had and the dessert was also really yummy. Our server Amanda was awesome especially considering how busy it was. Can't wait to go again.
Except for being seated between a large, loud table and the bathroom entrance despite several other open tables, this was a great resturant. I was on a date night with my boyfriend so it was pretty easy to get over the bad placement and enjoy our selves. The menu was creative and the food came out perfectly. Risotto balls were life changing.
