This restaurant is permanently closed. Roots and Rye features Prime Rib off the roast, cooked low and slow for 8 hours and then roasted at high temperature for 30 minutes to achieve a crust. Centered around a whiskey collection and craft cocktails, this rustic-industrial restaurant caters to all types, be it after-work drinks and snacks to full course banquet style celebration dinners. Visit Taco-Tuesday and experience a fun twist to classic American Fare, hang out with friends for All Day Happy Hour Wednesday's in the lounge or outdoor fire-pit patio, and don't forget to try the Late Shift Menu for one last bite when out late on Santana Row!

Food selection is poor, mostly fried foods. I used to love coming here for drinks and their wonderful brussel sprouts; but alas they took them off the menu. Wait staff was not informed and the wine list was dismal. Sadly, not returning.

Great service and such a beautiful restaurant. Love the lounge seating with fire pit and the amazing service. Try the bone marrow! To die for!

The wait staff was inattentive abd allowed plates and glasses to pile up on our table. That would be understandable if the place was packed, but it was only at about 75% capacity.

Overall a very disappointing experience. We ordered 2 cocktails, one was ok at best, the other undrinkable- pure lime juice. We sent it back and it came back mildly better, but still not drinkable. For entrees, I ordered scallops, which was the last entree to come by several minutes. The scallops were both undercooked and very fishy smelling- we had a table of 6 and the other end of the table could smell them! We rarely return food to the kitchen- but in both cases it was so extreme we felt it necessary! I reordered a burger, by the time it came everyone was finished with their meals, so I got it to go. The rest of the table got burgers and prime rib. Everyone felt that the burgers and prime rib were fine- not great. We were not comped any food for the experience (we didn't ask, but it would have been a nice touch) and felt that overall the meal was very expensive for what we paid absolutely did not deliver.

The food was disappointing. There were not a lot of menu options. The main reason I picked Roots & Rye was because of all the different food options I saw on Yelp, such as Jalapeño poppers, chicken and waffles, and much more. However, when seated and given the menu, I asked the waiter if they had any other food options like the poppers I'd seen on Yelp and she let me know that they took it off the menu. At that point, the only reason I decided to stay was because I figured, another restaurant on a Friday night in Santana Row would have a really long wait time. But honestly, after seeing the menu, I wish I'd just left. I decided to order the parmesan fries, chicken sliders, and scallops. The fries were just OK and I spit out the first bite of scallops that I had. I will say, however, the chicken sliders were delicious! Sad they were just an appetizer because it wasn't fulfilling and, after being let down by the other two dishes we'd ordered, I didn't want to try anything else there. The bar and ambiance were definitely very cool so I would give the ambiance an A+! I wouldn't return to Roots & Rye though because there are many other places in Santana Row with so many more food options!

Meh, just meh. Nothing special. Food was meh, see was meh!! But I would say, if you have only an hour to live, this is the restaurant to go to. The food takes forever.

Optically pleasant place with decorative exposed framing and distinctive chesterfield sofas, attentive and friendly service. Had brunch with friends, had chicken/waffles, huevos rancheros, eggs benedict, and avocado toast. Everyone was pleased with their choice. Would recommend.

This has been my 3rd time there and I am always disappointed. They are open late on the weekends, but always run out of food by 9p. My most recent visit there, they were out of the special they were advertising, I decided to get something else, which they were also sold out of. Our server probably came to our table 3 times in the 1.5 hrs we were there. Will not be back.

Service was terrible. Waiter must have forgotten about us a half a dozen times.

We sent all the food back because the salads were over dressed and salty and the prime rib was dry and rubbery. When the food came back the second time it was great.

We ordered a few bottles of wine and some whiskey but the waiter didn’t come back for additional orders. We sat dry for much of the meal.

I when's here for a business dinner because it seemed like a pretty nice interior and a decent menu. Unfortunately the night we were there it was extremely loud all over the restaurant. No quiet places and we were essentially shouting at each other from across the table. Had to ask the waiter multiple times to repeat what he was saying cuz I couldn't hear. I certainly wouldn't go back again if a good conversation were required.

Our first visit to Roots & Rye was for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was very warm and welcoming as was the hostess. We ordered the short rib Benedict and the fried chicken sandwich. The Benedict was excellent. The chicken sandwich was only good. I think the chicken was over done but the spread was very tasty. We would like to go back to try dinner.

I had my 21st birthday brunch here yesterday with a big group of friends! All the employees were so friendly and accommodating - they even played my requested song I was so happy! Mimosas were bomb, music and atmosphere was perfect and I enjoyed my time here so much.

Ps - to the man in the suit I assumed to the manager, u fine as hell!

Very limited menu for dinner. Food was OK. Extremely loud so I would say this place is best for bar scene and small bites rather than trying to have dinner and conversation. Fairly expensive as well.

Made reservation for Sunday afternoon dinner for Father's Day. When I spoke to the receptionist to inquire if there would be a limited menu on Father's Day, I was told no. We got there expecting prime rib and whiskey and got brunch and mimosas. They were out of the three things I ordered. I didn't order 3 on purpose, I ordered one and they ran out, then another, and they ran out of that, etc. We had to ask the waitress to place a drink order. We ordered fries after our main order and they didn't come out until after our plated begun to be cleared. I get we ordered them after our initial order, but fries? Taking the rest of the meal to make and deliver??? No quality check. No return for follow-up drink order. AWFUL!!! Will not return.

Had a pretty basic meal, but the chicken was terribly dry and the waiter only stopped by twice the entire meal. We finally had to walk over to him and get a bill.

Our family had dinner for my husband’s birthday. Very disappointed. The meal took a VERY long time. We were there nearly two hours. The waiter was pleasant but unable to explain the prime rib dinner—even though online reviewers had explained in detail their unusual method and raved about it. Our salads took 45 minutes and we were on our second bite when the entrees arrived. Management needs to step up training for the wait staff and timing in the kitchen is way off. The prime rib, however, was very good but a disappointing experience overall.

We were there for brunch and were surprised at the volume of the music they were playing - seemed overly loud for 11 in the morning...we were disappointed that it interfered with our conversation and considered asking the manager/hostess to turn down the music a little but we didn't want to ruin their vibe. I mean we're 40 but still, I don't think it needs to be bumping like a nightclub before noon.

The restaurant seemed overwhelmed by the Saturday night high occupancy, and messed up our food and order multiple times... Ran out of napkins, never refilled water, served appetizers together with the main dish, AND ... completely FORGOT to bring one of our main dishes. The Manager offered a 40% discount on our bill, which was the appropriate gesture and certainly welcome, but the overall experience leaves a lot of room for improvement...

My wife and I enjoyed a date night in Santana Row, Roots and Rye is a fun place for a nice meal. We shared the Prime Rib and Brussel Sprouts. Highly recommend sharing some of the small plates and sampling the fare.

Great prime rib, fairly priced. We started by sharing the roasted cauliflower which was really good and we split the R&R cut of prime rib, it came on two plates with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach already split for us, a salad was also included. All the food was excellent, my only critisism was I found the music a little loud, but I definitely will be returning anyways.

Half of the items on the menu were sold out. Settled on the chicken and it was served raw. For some unknown reason this restaurant does not award the 100 points fir dinning.

I took my family on Mother’s Day and was treated to the worst service. I expect service to be slow on a busy day but there were 8 open tables around us.
I had to get up 3 times to find the waitress to ask for our next course, refills on drinks and water and to clear the plates 10 minutes after we finished.
The food was good but the service made the overall meal unpleasant.
Not likely to return.

The manager, Jansen was great and very accommodating. We were there for Mother’s Day and a birthday. The entire staff was on it. Thank you for making it a memorable day!!!

We went to Roots and Rye for Mother’s Day brunch. We started out on the patio with Mimosa and Bloody Mary. My mimosa came and was very good. My husband’s Bloody Mary took almost 20 minutes to get to us, we were told that they needed to make more mix. I was surprised that on A busy brunch weekend this wouldn’t have already been prepped?! Ordered brunch ( I ordered French Toast) which came burnt :( I didn’t send back because we were in a time crunch, but execution of food needs to be better. On the upside, staff was wonderful, we were warmly greeted, checked on and ALL of the staff were positive and made up for the burnt French toast.
