Why did I think that the negative reviews for Root 25 on Yelp, OpenTable and Google would not apply to me? Stupid! We picked Root 25 for a early dinner (4PM) for 3 of us. Since we knew we wanted to sit & talk, we didn't want to go somewhere that was either too loud or that would push us out. Here at least, we could spill over to the Hyatt lobby if necessary. Except for some folks at the bar, there was no one around when we arrived. We waited for 5-10 minutes and then actually went into the kitchen & asked a very nice, conscientious worker who did not speak much English for help. He found the manager, who seemed confused as to what to do with us. We asked, "Do you serve food & are you serving now?" He said yes & told us to sit wherever we liked. We asked about the patio area the restaurant stated it had. "Uh, this is actually our patio area" he sheepishly replied. Hmmm. We chose a quiet table. "Uh, you're sitting in our breakfast area" the manager said. The service was terrible, just like every poor online review stated. You can't blame the kitchen for being the culprit because we had extended waits to(1) get the menus(2) get the glasses for water 3) get the water, all before anyone even showed up. We chose appetizer: cheese plate, calamari, veggie flatbread. And we waited. Truthfully when the food arrived, the presentation was nice and it all tasted good. WAY OVERPRICED for the portion size but at least you didn't feel like spitting it out. The service continued to be terrible. We decided not to order anything that needed to be cooked. When the server came back to see if we wanted dessert, we said yes, just to see how long it would take to get the dessert menu. The menu arrived...about 10 minutes later. The bill for 3 appetizers, 2 bowls of soup, & a salad was $80 before tip. All I can say is this was one of the most inadequate dining experiences I have ever had.
I blazed through nearby OpenTable restaurants to find something open, beer-centric, and in the Tech Center. The reviews for Root25 seemed good and the name indicated a craft focus, so I reserved and arrived within 25 minutes. I was disappointed to see that this was a hotel bar, but rather than leave committed to giving it a whirl. The tap list is uninspiring, carrying baseline fare from larger Colorado breweries. (Think Avery IPA, Odell 90 Schilling, etc.--good, but common.) We decided to order appetizers as a test to see if we'd stay for dinner, and after about 5 minutes a waitress swung by to take our drink orders. The gemelli mac and mashed pea bruschetta were quite tasty, but they took more than 20 minutes to arrive. The timing discouraged another food order, so we lingered a bit over apps and closed out. Pricey, gimmicky, and not a destination spot. Fine if you're staying in the hotel on an expense account, but if you have a car and don't mind a 10-15 minute drive, there are way better options in a better price point within striking distance of this hotel.
I took my girlfriend here for Valentines Day and could not have been happier. The food was delicious, the service had zero flaws, and the ambiance was perfect. The noise was very low so it was great. They spread out the guests to make everything more spacious and even offered us a larger table. My girl was very impressed and called it a great find. I will be coming back in the future.
The food was decent, but the service was terrible. It took 2.5 hours for an appetizer and dinner. It took our waitress a very long time to do anything. 10 minutes to get drinks, another 10 minutes to come back and take our appetizer order. It took about 25 minutes to get the appetizer after we ordered it. It was a cheese plate, nothing cooked. The entrees weren't hot when they came out. Seemed like they had been under the heat lamp for awhile since the plates were hot but the food was not. The food tasted ok, although it was nothing special. We won't be going to Root 25 again.
Food is served on "wooden servers" - long devoid of the varnish which covered them. Did it go in the dishwasher on into the food? Please replace these wooden antiquities. It certainly didn't make the presentation pleasing. Most are worn an weary and don't deserve to be under the food you are eating. Time to change, guys.
I originally found out about Root25 Taphouse while trying to find out if the old restaurant at the top of the Hyatt Regency DTC still existed. When we were much younger, we had been to the old restaurant on special occasions to take in the view of the city and the wonderful food. Unfortunately, that restaurant is long gone, and the space at the top is used for special events. In this research, I found out that Root25 Taphouse was the restaurant now in the hotel, so I thought it was worth the try.
I brought my wife here for our anniversary. There happened to be a convention going on at the hotel, so seating for two was limited, but I'm glad I made the reservation. The two of us were seated at a table for 6, so we had a lot of space to spread out our drink and dinner. I ordered the Salmon special, and my wife order the Mac & Cheese from the appetizer menu. She also had a glass of Merlot from a vineyard we had not heard of before, and she very much enjoyed it. I had a beer off the tap, which was excellent. The salmon dinner I had was fantastic, and my wife really enjoyed her Mac & Cheese. Service was very good, albeit a bit on the slow side, but we were in no rush. Our server made sure we had everything we needed, and checked on us enough not to be an annoyance. I will definitely return here in the future.
Overall we enjoyed our meal at Root25. We had the artichoke appetizer, which was delicious (we even ordered more dipping sauce!), and the wine and beer selections were great. The main course was good, too, but not exceptional. I had the lamb tenderloin, which was cooked properly medium-rare, but the accompaniments were disappointing. Was the eggplant meant to be served cold under the lamb? The spinach looked like it came straight out of the frozen box. Again, overall we liked it, but as many choices as there are out there, I'm not sure the whole experience was good enough for a return visit.
Parking was inconvienent. The food and drinks were extremely overpriced. This place considers themselves "American Cusine" and there wasn't anything on the menu that I would consider appetizing, unless you want to pay $15 for a burger. We made reservations thinking this was a "hot spot" and the place was dead. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone, nor will I be back.
The staff for the Mother's Day Brunch at Root 25 Taphouse was amazing. We had a party of 12 including two toddlers and the experience was heavenly. The staff was so attentive to our young children and to our table. The food was amazing for a brunch and we will definitely return next year!
We went there hoping to like the place, but in the end, not a place we'd recommend to friends. The setting, at least where we were sitting, was a part of the large open air hotel atrium. You knew you were in a hotel, especially with fairly loud event going on. Service was just OK, and the food, although good (and somewhat interesting/unique), seemed a bit too high priced. And the fact that a Tap House was out of both Stouts didn't sit right with me either. Enjoyed it to a degree, but with so many other options, so reason to head back.
Staying at the Hyatt / having a large group without enough transportation & weather limiting our walking to a choice nearby directed us to Root25.
The wait staff was marvelous, attentive, nice.
Although the food was tasty, it was also meager in proportion to price. We appreciated the use of local resourses, however several restaurants in the metro area do this & manage to keep their prices in check or serve a reasonable size amount.
? Really, a salad in a soup cup?
The noise was excessive, perhaps some dividers between the bar & far eatting area would be helpful.
Although billed as a "pub" like atmosphere the place looks and feels like a hotel restaurant/lounge. Nothing special. The local beer selection is good and the beer was cold. But as others have noted the service was really pretty slow and inattentive. Food was ok but nothing special. I won't be returning.
I've stayed at this hotel quite a bit - have eaten at Root 25 for breakfast many times. Food and service is very good. This was my first dinner experience. The food was OK, but service was poor. When food was delivered, it wasn't as ordered (even got tortilla soup without the tortilla, which I had to ask for). The restaurant sounds like it's a good choice for brewery choices, but I wouldn't recomment for dinner.
Hidden away in the Hyatt Tech Center, this taphouse has many brews and wines to pick from. The bar area is off the seating area for dining, allowing for good times at the bar and a quieter meal experience for those preferring. Having gone for lunch, we were all very pleased with the selection of items on the menu.
Worst dining experience in a long time! There was food smeared on the floor from brunch. The waitress didn't give us the whole menu (pages missing) or specials until asked. When they poured the wine they didn't pour all of it from the carafe and when asked for all of the wine in the carafe they didn't give it to us and acted as if we were somehow in the wrong. The food was burned with cold BBQ sauce poured over top. We all left hungry and unhappy and this was supposed to be a nice Mother's Day dinner. And the food was expensive. I've had better meals in airplanes. Clearly this restaurant is confused about how to operate properly. I hope visitors to Denver are smart enough to eat elsewhere in one of our many excellent establishments.
This was the worse brunch experience: Food half warm, food variety not well put together. Young man cooking omelets not skilled dropping one on the floor. And egg batter dripping on side of skillet on an attempt flip. The food and ambience did not match the price. I ate at the Hyatt for Easter and was very pleased. This was a F.
