While the food was not as good as I have had in the past; the service was excellent. Unfortunately the half-chicken was lukewarm; it should be piping hot. The biscuits were fabulous as usual, but the carmel latte was not hot either. They need to return to their "roots" in order for me to return.
There was a black out at the restaurant while we were there - but it was Friday the 13th, so probably not the resto’s fault.
They brought my date’s drink about 15 mins before mine, which I thought was strange given we were sitting at the bar.
Otherwise, it was a great experience. Deviled eggs are great, shrimp and grits are some of my favorite. Chicken was a little dryer than I remember but still tasty.
Great environment generally - sit at the back bar if you can!
The food, service and atmosphere was incredible. The biscuits are SO good. The chicken is delightfully seasoned and its so tasty. You've got to try the hurricane tea! It's incredible! It's quaint and cozy. The food came out quicker than expected.
Highly recommend the friend chicken (gf available with almond flour)! Sides of grits and coleslaw were excellent, as was the lemon meringue dessert!
I brought my husband here over the weekend for his birthday dinner. He loves southern food and I knew this would be a hit for him. He got the fried chicken dish with macaroni and cheese, while I got the meatloaf (gluten free version). Both our meals were so tasty. We also ordered the biscuits gluten free. When I say these were the best biscuits I have ever had, I am not exaggerating. I don't know how they made something that delicious that was also gluten free. My husband was equally impressed. Needless to say, we will be back again for sure! Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to try it for brunch.
Perfect, comforting, brunch! And the space was extremely cute. Will go back!
Took my mom and we had such a nice time. Come hungry, you won’t regret it
Cute little place! Friendly staff who are on top of things throughout your dine. Table seating as well as bar seating. Table seating in the back is a bit tight, so you can’t have a private conversation and eating space is limited.
MUST order the friend chicken. Wish it could’ve been more crispy, same goes for the waffles.. but they were delicious in taste. Also ordered the Mac and cheese, which were nice and cheesy. Not dry at all. If you have room, order the biscuits.. they serve it with some honey that makes it all just melt in your mouth!
Wasn’t too impressed with the drinks, But they were heavy on the pour which is always a great thing.
PS* make reservations.
If you arrive early, your not able to sit at the bar and drink while you wait to be seated, bar seating is full service, but the workers do offer to grab your drink for you while you wait by the door.
Love this place. My 1st date was at root & bone & now we’re married.
Bday brunch great service delicious food
I'm from Virginia, and when someone described Root & Bone to me as the first restaurant in Manhattan to get southern food right, I knew I had to go. Firstly, the decorations here are fantastic. It's an extremely well decorated country home type of spot, that isn't too loud despite being packed every weekend. The cocktail menu was well-crafted, but I went for the sweet tea as my first test of whether this place was legitimately southern. It definitely was - borderline painfully sweet and lots of ice, just the way I like it. There were a lot of things to choose from that I'll have to go back for, but I'd recommend the fried chicken and three, as the presentation with mini cast irons really sets it over the top. Two pieces of sweet tea brined fried chicken (sheesh) came with perfectly done collard greens, oven baked mac n cheese and a waffle, with whiskey maple syrup. I am very happy to have finally found down home cooking in the heart of new york city - we will be back!!!
would go back food was delicious very small place definitely make reservations
Great time, great food, friendly service. Only thing I would change is that the main entrees came out while we were still eating our first course.
I absolutely love this place. Some of the most delicious southern comfort food I’ve ever had. And the cocktails are banging.
Went for my 2nd Anniversary and the service was great and the food was delicious. I am STUFFED from the 5 Course Meal we got.
I have been waiting so long to try this place! It did not disappoint. The biscuits were perfectly fluffy and buttery with the right additions. The waffles were the right size. The chicken was a tad dry as it was a huge piece of a breast. Loved the Arnold Palmer cocktail, perfectly southern.
The food was absolutely amazing!! We ordered several dishes to share. The biscuits were incredible; tasty and moist. The Mac and cheese was perfectly rich and creamy. Waffles were savory and sweet, perfect combination. Overall great food, drinks, and service!
Went for brunch- had a reservation and we were escorted to a table right away. Very small restaurant. Had the chicken & biscuits with pepper jelly. It was over the top sweet! Too much honey on top of the biscuit and the jelly was sweet not spicy. Another disappointment is that the fried chicken and the biscuit were room temperature- not hot. Alone the chicken was good and the biscuit was good. Just serve things hot and without all the sweet. Let people put honey on themselves.
The food was phenomenal. Ambiance was amazing as well. All around a fantastic experience
Amazing food, portions, value and of course fun
It's laughable to even think about enjoying authentic Southern food within the boundaries of Manhattan. However,Root and Bone boasts slap-your-momma biscuits, finger-lickin' fried chicken, and indulgently sweet sweet tea. PERFECTION!
Great food- grits and biscuits are amazing! It’s a nice place, but they need to get heating- we were freezing and I noticed half the people there left there coats on. Feb in nyc calls for heating!
Good. Nothing special or great that makes it stand out
The food was phenomenal. Just fingerlicking good. I really liked everything that I ordered on the menu. There isn't anything that I would change about my experience.
Outstanding dining experience! The sweet tea brined chicken & collard greens were the best, EVER!
The fried chicken tasted good, but the outer layer wasn't crispy or hot. It felt like it has been sitting under a lamp for 30 minutes, which is confirmed from what you see in the kitchen as soon as you walk in. Definitely not made to order since it came out within 5-8 min of ordering. Service and atmosphere was good though.
Amazing presentation and food pairings
Service was great, food came out unbelievable fast. Figured it was because it was Valentine's Day and they wanted to turn over tables more quickly. The biscuits were outstanding. The deviled eggs were great, but the portion size was ridiculously small (just 3, so we're talking about 1.5 eggs total). The fried chicken was awesome - would definitely come back here just for that. Next time I'm trying the chicken biscuit. Saw someone eating this and it looks amazing. My only thought is that they don't have enough dairy-free side options. Everything was cheese based except for the collared greens. Oh well!
Omg. Best.chicken.and.waffles.ever. And those biscuits!!!!
The food was absolutely AMAZING. I dined for restaurant week and I will definitely be back. For appetizer I had the devil eggs and the chicken biscuit sliders(sooooooooooooo good). Dinner I had the chicken and waffles. There is cheese on the waffle(not my thing so I opted for no cheese). It was so much chicken, I was in fried chicken heaven.
Restaurant week was a great value. I will definitely be back. I recommend to make a reservation if you can to secure a table.
My friend and I went for restaurant week. We got the deviled eggs, waffle benedict, chicken & waffle, chocolate pudding, and key lime pie. It sounds like a lot of food, right? It definitely was a lot of food. It's worth it for the amount of food, we were both so stuffed by the end of the meal, and had to take some home. Be prepared also for extra salt. Some of the food was really salty, however the waffles were really good.
Came for Restaurant Week Lunch.
Deviled Eggs were good.
Fried chicken was bomb, wasn't overly breaded and was fried to a nice crisp.
Pancakes were heavy and way too doughy, if they could make them either flatter and lighter it would be a lot better.
Key Lime Pie and the Chocolate Pudding were both very rich and flavorful, but so rich that it was tough finishing them.
I'd say the only thing memorable about this place was the biscuits; those were particularly tasty. The deviled eggs, along with the fried chicken and waffles, however, are forgettable. Nothing outstanding about this place, average as far as restaurants go.
Food was great and bartender made great drinks. Loved the breadth of the whiskey selection. Great service! Decor was very cool for east village vibe. Highly recommend.
It just wasn’t good tonight
We’ve eaten here Half a dozen times but tonight we were very disappointed Chicken wasn’t that hot and not even the least little bit crunchy it was no better than takeout
It will be awhile before we go back if we ever do
I took my boyfriend here for a special night together. I’m gluten intolerant but he is not so t was nice to both be able to enjoy the Fried chicken and biscuits and him not have to compromise for gluten free food. Such a nice waiter very attentive. The six point cocktail was very yummy as well!
Love the biscuits, devil eggs and of course the fried chicken with waffles!!!!!!
As always the food was excellent and the drinks were perfect. I can't say enough how much I enjoy this restaurant and how everything from the appetizers, to the main courses and desserts are simply perfection.
Very fun, great service, excellent food,
