We went there for our anniversary. The food was fresh & tasty and the staff was quick and polite. Great atmoshephere!
We haven't tried Root 246 since Chef Pink took over. We were pleased with the new menu offerings and with the good service we received.
The only reason for four stars on food is that the Shrimp was overdone...in fact, dry.
The summer salad, NY steak, ribs, roasted halibut and chicken were all winners!
Looking forward to returning and giving the shrimp another shot.
The Customer Service was great, the staff was very friendly and polite they were very attentive. The food was awesome! I would definitely go back, when we return to Solvang!!
This place was fabulous. We drove down from Napa on the way to Newport. Stopped in Solvang for an overnight stay. My hotel had a nice restaurant but this looked more fun and not stuffy. It was a warm day so we ate dinner outside, had Heirloom tomato salad, so delish. Split a burger and fries (had bacon aioli super good) with my husband and the Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes. It was a slice of Heaven.
Food was great. Noise level was high, making it difficult to talk. I prefer quieter dining
Creative cocktails. Oysters were wonderful. Interesting menu choices. We especially enjoyed the Heirloom Tomato & Peach Salad with Farmers Cheese and the Shrimp with Peanut Mole. Service could have been more attentive, but server had tables both inside and on the front patio. Having to juggle two separate stations didn’t allow for very good service. We waited so long for the server to take our order after receiving dessert menus, we didn’t get to try the cheesecake and ice-cream sandwiches (or we would have been late for our play.) We also had to wait for someone to pick up the credit card and finally had to ask a busperson to take it. Then, when the server was bringing it back to be signed, they stopped to talk to an adjacent table while we waited for it. We will come back again for the food, but sincerely hope that the service improves.
Delicious. We came to Solvang for a short trip and this was one of the best meals we had. They were very accommodating to our 5 year old and made her a delicious pasta dish and steamed rainbow carrots. Our food and wine was excellent as well. Highly recommend.
We have been coming to Root 246 since it opened, and enjoyed each experience; the food was great, service was good, and the ambience was excellent.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit was a disappointment; the service was extremely slow, while the food was still good, the current menu is extremely limited, and the main dinning room was closed; our choice was to sit in the patio, or in the bar area.
In the past, bread was provided at no cost prior to the meal; now bread is chargeable. Also, sorbet was served between the first and main course; today, nothing.
In our future visits to Solvang, we will seek out other restaurants in the area.
The food was horrible especially for the price. Every entree was served cold and nothing what we expected. Will not recommend or come back for dinner. Drinks are great though
It was a lovely restaurant in ambiance. The food was a bit disappointing only because we were expecting another menu. They changed the menu the same week we came up to Solvang. I was already expecting to order my Top Sirloin steak with bordesaise sauce and the side dishes that came with it. Bummer it was no longer on the menu. Granted what I did order was $10.00 less, but I would have preferred paying the $10.00 more to get a better cut of meat and what I was looking forward too. The steak I had was marinated with a major amount of salt and the side dish was just ok. My husband's dinner came cold not once, but twice. They were very helpful in trying to get it right. He eats vegan and the only choice was a polenta dish. He loved the flavor, but didn't appreciate it coming out cold twice. He practiced patience that evening. Overall 3 stars is my rating because the cocktails were good and the service was as good as it could get...especially on a Saturday evening when it was a busy time.
My husband and I moved to Solvang last year and have been on a quest to find the best SY Valley restaurants. Overall Route 246 ranks high for creative cuisine in a nice atmosphere for a reasonable price. We'll definitely go there again.
Had a great family meal at Root 246 - appetizers and entries arrivee in a timely manner, food was good across the table, and the server was pleasant and knowledgeable about the food and wine.
Great creative food and trendy menu. Need a few more options for red wine by the glass
The chimichurri sauce was amazing! I was sad that the filet was unavailable due to a menu change, but the sauce more than made up for its absence! The staff was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was great! We’ll definitely be back!
Everything was amazing. The location, service and food. They only had a little mishap by over salting the burger but even with that, we would go back again. Especially for the salad.
Amazing food, friendly staff! We had an awesome experience
got two tables for our gathering of 3 families and the service and food great
Food was great. Server neglected to ask us if we wanted to hear the specials. Would have been nice as she told everyone else she was helping. They sounded good but didn’t want to create a problem by attempting to change our order.
Jessica graciously helped my wife and me to accommodate some special dietary needs. Pleasant and attentive service, but not intrusive. Lovely ambience in the room as the sun set and the day passed from twilight into evening. Worth the drive.
Filet was over cooked but server brought a new steak which was cooked right.
Servers were very nice but it took too long between courses.
This was our 3rd year going to dinner for 4th of July. It will continue to be our go to place for this special day.
They have a specific menu for this day but we have been there on regular days, they have a full menu and the food is fantastic, always great service, very friendly and attentive. My family and I love Root 246!
Loved the gourmet ice cream sandwiches!
we enjoyed a delightful dinner. The décor and ambiance is wonderful (the very private booths were almost like having a private room). Our waitress, Jenson, was lovely; she made recommendations based on her taste and NOT at all pushy or judgmental. The food was delicious. the Gem Salad, focaccia then mac & cheese were perfect for my dinner. My friend had the NY steak and raved. At the end of the evening, we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Pink, our interest not necessary if this is too familiar for your experience. Again, I will definitely be back!
We had a great dinner. My wife had the fried chicken and I had the fish. Both were excellent.
Average we were expecting a more interesting menu. Menu was also small.
Excellent food- somehow fried chicken with sliced dill pickles and mashed potatoes was absolutely delicious.
My wife & I had dinner here. The waitress was very good. Not a huge food selection, but sufficient variety. Food was very fresh & tasty. Priced reasonably! We had great experience & would definitely be back next time we stop by Solvang.
Bread was great, steak was juicy & tasty. Fish was very good too.
We had been here before about 4 years ago. We were impressed, so we went back. The overall was good, but it has changed. Not as cozy. Limited menu. High prices.
We will not be back.
The food was either dripping with oil or burned. They shoved a dinner dish in an appetizer sized plate and were unapologetic about the whole thing.
Natasha did a great job serving us and made our 37th anniversary special. We stayed in Solvang for a week and ate there twice. Really good food and service.
I must say the food was horrible. I will never go back and will let others know to not go back. It was a couple years ago that I had been to the restaurant and the food was such a disappointment. Not what it use to be and its actually pretty sad.
Our server Dana was fantastic and attentive. Food was delicious and fresh. We really enjoyed our meal and will return next time we are in Solvang!
This was our fourth; and sadly, last visit to Root 246. I recall fondly when Bradley Ogden was at the helm, this placed rocked! Sadly, the meals were unimaginative, uninspired and overpriced. Food in this price range, prepared poorly and presented even worse are not worth the money. We use to love coming here, so I surely have a different view on food than someone who just tried this place for the first time. But even a first timer would know that a restaurant must offer something good for a dish worth almost $40. The street tacos sounded good, being made with filet mignon, but the chef obviously didn't know how to cook filet. The Barramundi surrounded by chickpeas were bland. The steak was just OK without much sparkle. The Menu is VERY limited and I recall there were so many more items months ago. Halibut, Duck, Cheese & Charcuterie are all gone. So many better restaurants in Solvang and Los Olivos. You guys have to step up your game!
Went for a family get together. The food was really good but after the waitress poured the wine and took our order, she disappeared. We had to follow up with another server regarding our main courses, which took a long time.
Didn't like the brussel sprouts, but the barramundi was fabulous
Quiet night out at Root 246 to celebrate my wife's birthday. Large comfortable chairs. We both enjoyed our steaks (NY for me filet mignon for her)- very tender and flavorful. Attentive service. Will return with friends.
Made a reservation for Mother's Day Brunch and when we showed up, the place was closed. Went to the hotel lobby to ask why and they just said "Sorry, we're not open on Sundays for brunch" although on the check-in counter, it clearly stated that it was open on Sundays at 10am. Why did no one from OpenTable or Hotel Corque give us a heads up or allow a reservation to be made in the first place?! Poor customer service on the restaurant and OpenTable. Ruined our Mother's Day.
It must have been an off night. We had 3 different servers, all polite young people. Our appetizers were served late (nearly 35 minutes after ordering) and as our appetizers came out so did our main dishes. The tables are small,
The plates big, it was a bit of a Tetris game to make it all work. The drinks were watery and the food was just okay. Nothing stood out as amazing. Overall I was disappointed as this has been one of my favorite places to visit since 2012. We’ll try again in a couple months to see if they’ve ironed out the kinks.
A friend of ours had been here many years ago and planned our outing. We were advised by locals that the chef has changed several times and that she would not have the same experience. They were correct when it came to the food- two friends had the fried chicken and said it was tasteless, poorly seasoned. One had the strip steak and said it was ok.
Another had the carrot soup and she enjoyed it.
The appetizers were much better- roasted Brussel sprouts, Mac n cheese.
Our server was phenomenal and we enjoyed ourselves but the entrees need work.
