Natasha did a great job serving us and made our 37th anniversary special. We stayed in Solvang for a week and ate there twice. Really good food and service.
I must say the food was horrible. I will never go back and will let others know to not go back. It was a couple years ago that I had been to the restaurant and the food was such a disappointment. Not what it use to be and its actually pretty sad.
Our server Dana was fantastic and attentive. Food was delicious and fresh. We really enjoyed our meal and will return next time we are in Solvang!
This was our fourth; and sadly, last visit to Root 246. I recall fondly when Bradley Ogden was at the helm, this placed rocked! Sadly, the meals were unimaginative, uninspired and overpriced. Food in this price range, prepared poorly and presented even worse are not worth the money. We use to love coming here, so I surely have a different view on food than someone who just tried this place for the first time. But even a first timer would know that a restaurant must offer something good for a dish worth almost $40. The street tacos sounded good, being made with filet mignon, but the chef obviously didn't know how to cook filet. The Barramundi surrounded by chickpeas were bland. The steak was just OK without much sparkle. The Menu is VERY limited and I recall there were so many more items months ago. Halibut, Duck, Cheese & Charcuterie are all gone. So many better restaurants in Solvang and Los Olivos. You guys have to step up your game!
Went for a family get together. The food was really good but after the waitress poured the wine and took our order, she disappeared. We had to follow up with another server regarding our main courses, which took a long time.
Didn't like the brussel sprouts, but the barramundi was fabulous
Quiet night out at Root 246 to celebrate my wife's birthday. Large comfortable chairs. We both enjoyed our steaks (NY for me filet mignon for her)- very tender and flavorful. Attentive service. Will return with friends.
Made a reservation for Mother's Day Brunch and when we showed up, the place was closed. Went to the hotel lobby to ask why and they just said "Sorry, we're not open on Sundays for brunch" although on the check-in counter, it clearly stated that it was open on Sundays at 10am. Why did no one from OpenTable or Hotel Corque give us a heads up or allow a reservation to be made in the first place?! Poor customer service on the restaurant and OpenTable. Ruined our Mother's Day.
It must have been an off night. We had 3 different servers, all polite young people. Our appetizers were served late (nearly 35 minutes after ordering) and as our appetizers came out so did our main dishes. The tables are small,
The plates big, it was a bit of a Tetris game to make it all work. The drinks were watery and the food was just okay. Nothing stood out as amazing. Overall I was disappointed as this has been one of my favorite places to visit since 2012. We’ll try again in a couple months to see if they’ve ironed out the kinks.
A friend of ours had been here many years ago and planned our outing. We were advised by locals that the chef has changed several times and that she would not have the same experience. They were correct when it came to the food- two friends had the fried chicken and said it was tasteless, poorly seasoned. One had the strip steak and said it was ok.
Another had the carrot soup and she enjoyed it.
The appetizers were much better- roasted Brussel sprouts, Mac n cheese.
Our server was phenomenal and we enjoyed ourselves but the entrees need work.
We had a lovely Anniversary dinner at Root 246. Our server Jessica was extremely helpful and personable. Her recommendations of both the Brussels sprouts and the friend chicken were “spot on” as both were delicious.
I enjoyed my steak as well and it was cooked perfectly.
We will return.
Excellent experience! My wife and I enjoyed sitting at the Chef’s table and letting the team serve us their cuisine. The food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional. A special thanks to Chef Frank, Chef Pink and their amazing team for a magical evening.
Nothing short of amazing. Completely covered all the bases. Such a delightful experience. Will return in the near future and recommending it to friends.

The service was exceptional.
Good menu, a little of everything, Three different dining areas, Formal, cozy lounge with bar, or bar. We ate in the lounge, Very comfy. We didn't want a big meal, just a nice glass of wine, with a small meal, and a chance to sit and relax and it was perfect.
Negative, was that I booked on Open Table, and they said that I wouldn't receive points for this booking.

I went to Solvang for birthday weekend with friend and wanted to find a fine dining place in the town.
root 246 was beautiful, atmospheric and cozy as well.
the food was delicious and waiter was friendly. Overall a greatest choice we could have made.
Great service, but steak was very over cooked. Returned it to the kitchen. Second steak was moderately better. Wait staff was very apologetic and offered a free dessert that turned out to be stale cookies and ice cream. The service was above average, but the food was definitely NOT worth the price.
The Easter Brunch Buffet was fantastic. So many wonderful items to choose from and they were beautifully presented. The staff was prompt, friendly and very attentive. The price couldn't be beat at only $40 per person! Root was the only place in the SYV doing and Easter Brunch Buffet and it was a very smart decision. The next special event Brunch Buffet is Mothers day and we will be recommending it to everyone. We had a great time!
Our waitress seemed bored with her job, never coming to check if our food was satisfactory.we worked hard to get a smile! Filet was very tender but my entire meal was cold. Since she never came to check, I ate it but voiced my displeasure.
My husbands New York steak was full of fat and gristle.
Desert was wonderful. I felt it should have been comped, but enjoyed it just the same.
Excellent food and service—even with a party with two young children. We will be back!

The menu looked good enough but the food was disappointing - nothing special or worth noting. The shrimp appetizer was burnt and had no flavour. I think I had the lamb pasta and it was such a small plate for $28 - and it didn't taste amazing. I think the best thing was the butternut squash - and I only mean that as in best thing compared to everything else we ordered. I usually never regret where I reserve and what I find on Open Table - this was my first bust in all these years! I was only in Solvang for a few hours and maybe it was a rainy day and low season but there was no one in the town but I felt like we should've picked a different local place instead.
Decor was nice and the patio would have been lovely if there was nice weather; servers were okay but overall - not the best experience.
Root 246 has had its share of chefs over the years. Each year on the Taste of Solvang weekend we've looked forward to our visit (we've been there other times as well). This year something was way off. The menu was completely different as would be expected with a different chef and we had a hard time trying to find something on the menu Sorry, I don't come to a nice restaurant for fried chicken. Was I looking at the kiddie menu? I settled for the barrimundie (seabass-like fish as it was explained to me) and my husband the short rib ragu. We also ordered the squash soup and Caesar salad. The salad was good, but I've had far better squash soup. Then the entrees arrived. My fish was soft and mushy with very little flavor, but it had a strong fishy smell It was on this giant pile of chickpeas--much too much for 1 person to eat or want to eat. The beef ragu was also flavorless and even using the salt and pepper on the table didn't help much. Our server was terrific, but she could tell something was wrong because she kept asking us if everything was OK. Perhaps things were off because we knew the head chef was over at the Taste of Solvang event going on that night as well. We know the restaurant likes to use locally available things, but so have other chefs in the past. We are hoping this was just a fluke.

Dining in the bar lounge area is a challenge since the seats and table height are not designed to eat a full meal. Our food was well presented but each course - soup, salad, macaroni/cheese w/truffles was tasteless. The soup and main course had to flavor and the salad virtually no dressing. This is our third time eating here and we will not be back.
The high back chairs were comfy, but not easy to lean back into. They had a nice selection of wines by the glass and my server was helpful in helping to decide on what to order. I especially loved the grilled shrimp.
Beautiful decor, but the chicken we ordered was tasteless and dry. It was so bad that we were thoroughly disappointed. We had received a positive recommendation from a friend so the poor quality was a surprise. If this was an aberration from the norm at this restaurant, it was a bad one. Unlikely that I will try this restaurant again.

The appetizer was really good, but the main entree were not worth the money. The beef ragu with pasta was $28 and the taste was okay but not worth the money. Husband had short ribs and it was too salty and also not worth the money. Service is 5 stars.

The filet mignon was absolutely delicious! However, the fried chicken was not as tasty as I hoped it would be. The chicken was too moist for my taste, I wish it had some flavor to it. Maybe it might have been nice if they had rotisserie chicken for a different type of flavor.
Our first time coming to root 246. It was my husband’s birthday. It was perfect!! Great ambiance fantastic service Daniel & Jenson so nice friendly and knowledgeable about menu. Food was fabulous my hubs had the filet mignon I had the barramundi both were over the top good, layers of flavor.
Definitely will go again ☺️
We were there to celebrate a birthday and because it was SYV restaurant week, we ordered from the special menu. It was a disappointment. The food was not prepared as ordered. ( very rare beef, instead of medium). The chef apparently relays heavily on garlic as there were several full cloves in every single dish. It is rare for me to dislike a dessert. But, the s’more cake and the sweet potato donuts were of a quality below the local donut shop.
