We took a chance coming here as our friends told us that their experience was just ok. They told us that they had to return the Halibut 2x and it was still dry.
I love Halibut and I really wanted it. So I told the server to tell the chef not to overcook the fish. And it was moist and perfect.
Anyways, it was a great time. My wife loved her scallops. I did too. I love my meat and seafood mid rare but I know some restaurants would not always grant my request.
I will come back here anytime I'm in Solvang. Oh and the cocktails were wonderful as well.
This place simply beautiful ambiance when walking in. We sat outside for my wife's birthday as it was a beautiful autumn evening. Our server was prompt. Had excellent recommendations. We had the nightly special burrata on toast and roasted cauliflower to start. We followed this by the house foccia. For the entree we had braised lb and fried chicken which was pretty good. The lamb was delicious. Fried chicken was good. We finished with an ice cream sandwich on the house for the birthday. We settled for the barrel aged cocktails. Definitely one of the best old fashions and Manhattans I've had. Highly recommend this place if you are visiting Solvang.
Excellent choice for my birthday dinner. The patio was perfect for the warm evening. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts and steak.

We are SO VERY GLAD we chose this restaurant! The service was impeccable! The food..... I just can't describe just how wonderful everything was!
Next time we are in Solvang, we will be dining here again!
We had a wonderful experience at Root 246 for our bachelorette dinner! The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was just right! The only slight drawback was the "gifting" of the dessert platter for the bride-to-be, but there was a charge for it, without any communication with any of the people hosting the dinner. Typically when items are brought from the chef without warning they are complimentary. It was an abundant and tasty dessert display, but a heads up that it was a discounted price rather than a complimentary price would have been better received. This small setback certainly didn't mar our overall experience. We would recommend Root 246 and will be back!

It was our anniversary dinner . Food was as expected as was the service . Nothing to complain about but nothing memorable either .
Amazing food with lovely presentation. Wait staff was attentive but not overly attentive. Perfect balance. Food was amazing. We had a lovely salad with peaches and tomatoes. The charred octopus was fork tender and my polenta was crispy with an amazing sauce. We split a dessert which was the perfect ending for the meal.
Amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and service! Chef Pink has created an outstanding local menu in a hip but elegant vibe. This restaurant elevates Solvang to a new foodie level with the wine list and specialty cocktails matching the changing menu. The place has different sections so you can go either elegant in main dining area, have it more casual and hip in the bar area or kick it on the outside patio where it is comfortable for kids and adults alike. A must go for dining when in the area!
It was so incredible! I took my boyfriend down to Solvang for his birthday and wanted to take him to what I felt would be the nicest place in town. They sure didn't disappoint! From the food to the service to the ambiance---absolutely wonderful experience.
Table near us was way too loud unfortunately. The last half of our meal was a bit painful.
I've been to this restaurant many times but my friends had not. As usual, it was excellent! I loved it and so did ALL my friends! I highly recommend dining here!!

We booked our reservation at Root 246 not knowing anything about the restaurant because were pretty adventurous that way. I am happy to report that we all had a wonderful experience. Our server, Dana, was very attentive and the rest of the staff, especially Kevin, took wonderful care of us as well.
The food was excellent, from the salads and appetizers all the way through to the desserts. Special shout out to the Fried Chicken. It was Oh My God good.
We will definitely return and recommend it to everyone we know!
Went there with my sister, mom and niece during a girls trip to Solvang. Everything was very good! Recommended to anyone visiting the town.

Excellent service food was very good beautiful plating I had octopus and wife had scallops. The scallops were just a tad undercooked but still really good octopus was done perfectly
Everything was just right, but a family with loud and screaming kids were sat next us.
Special request for a quiet booth was honored. Service was attentive, and a minor misstep in order was quickly and cheerfully corrected. Octopus and oysters were outstanding.
Wine list was not too impressive with almost exclusively California, but the staff quickly responded with excellent suggestions for the meals ordered.
great place to relax over excellent food and drinks after a day cycling through wine country. treat yourself to the guilty pleasure of the prime rib eye steak paired with a bottle of Pinot Noir from Kita Wines. we also tried halibut, scallops, brussel sprouts, summer salad, shishito peppers - all excellent. relaxed ambience and friendly service. enjoy!

Appreciated the kids menu and food being served on a dinosaur. The food was good and cooked perfectly for all 3 meals. Bummed no one acknowledged our anniversary. I put this in our reservations and neither the host nor server greeted us. The service was long and we rarely got checked on. The bussers and runners were more attentive to us than anyone else, so big thanks to them. Overalll, a good night as the food didn't lack quality. Kudos for thinking of the kids, but service could have stepped up a bit. The table next to us definitely got better treatment, perhaps they knew someone there.
Chief Pink had turned Root 246 around, her food is innovative and delicious.
The service was good, a few little errors but out server was very apologetic and corrections were made swiftly.
We ate in the main dinning room which has been remodeled since we were there last and it is a wonderful improvement.
The entire meal experience was excellent. Christian was our waiter and was very attentive. Loved it all!
I always enjoy my time at Route 246 restaurant. Chef Pink and Team do an excellent job curating the menu and experience. Their willingness to accommodate health preferences is something to be admired. My partner and I consider Route 246 and our "go to" restaurant when we are wanting to eat out. Last but not least, that dessert menu... Chef Burns has been another wonderful addition to the restaurant, her creativity is adding so much fun to the dessert line up.

The service was outstanding, the food presentation was breathtaking, and of the the food was cooked to prefection.
The kitchen staff and Chef Pink had it going and were in que during the whole time. A great working team as everything clicked without question.

Lots of restaurants claim to be “farm to table” but Root 246 is definitely at the top of this category. We started with oysters which we baked, briny and sweet. The summer salad was a delight of ripe tomato, ricotta cheese, and peaches. The signature fried chicken dish was one of the best versions of that classic ever, topped with those tasty pickles. Wild caught shrimp were plump and tasted of the sea. The side sauce was a poblano mole which we won’ forget.
Greeting from the host was friendly, server was knowledgeable about both food and wine. The atmosphere was modern, casual and relaxing. The chef came out to chat with us and we were very happy to tell her how much we loved her food. This is a place to which we will be most happy to return and are glad to recommend to other diners. Enjoy!
I wanted to love this place, but it was a mixed bag. Food is nicely presented and portions are generous. We tried the brussel sprouts, local halibut, caesar salad, burger and focaccia bread. However, some of the food was over salted (brussel sprouts and bread), while some was quite nice. Service was also a mixed bag. Pleasant and nice but lacked attention to detail. For example, no plates were provided for the appetizers and when we requested them, they brought tiny bread plates which were smaller than the Caesar salad leaves. We also had to keep asking for refills of water. Overall, it was nice but not necessarily memorable.

Good was excellent. Sort of similar to the Lark in Santa Barbara.... our party shared. Brussels spouts were so wonderful and the polenta and scallops too. It was pretty perfect for us. Not cheap but a good meal for all. Thanks Chumash, we appreciate your sense of detail. It makes a difference. Stayed at the Solvang hotel which was also clean quiet and nice ambiance.
