    This is our third visit to this very good restaurant. We had butternut squash soups, my husband ordered the Wagyu burger, and I the Impossible burger. The food was delicious. Our hostess and servers were warm, friendly and diligent. We will come back as soon as the health crisis allows.

    The service was slow. The food was delicious and the cocktails were delicious. This is a favorite stop of mine in Solvang, and the hotel next door is just charming.

    We had not been here in awhile so we thought we would try it again. We were disappointed at the small selection of options that looked appealing. Friends had the Halibut and thought it was fabulous. We tried the appetizer special and very disappointed. The wine selection was descent and reasonable based on local options. The rest of our meals were average. But the dessert was fabulous.

    Have been coming to this restaurant for years. New menu is rather small, but everything is healthy and delicious! Service is always friendly and skillful. Love the location and the style. An all around great experience.

    The food was good quality and very fresh. Service was a little slow and inexperienced. Portions we smaller then expected. The halibut was too hard. Expected more selections to choose from for the main dish’s.

    Food took a while and was pretty mediocre. I had the steak which was very thin and my date had the scallops which she liked, but were not special.

    Our experience started out wonderfully- the hostess were welcoming, We received a lovely table by the window and we were greeted warmly by the waitstaff. Our appetizers came promptly and were delicious - squash soup and roasted Brussels sprouts. Then it went sideways / we waited quite a bit longer for entrees which were a mixed bag - dayboat scallops were delicious but the “beets two ways” were lukewarm and uninspired. The steak entree was flavorless and tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed before cooking. To their credit, the staff comped us a dessert but then charged for an addition to the dessert we didn’t really want! Overall the restaurant has a lot of potential and we loved the use of “farm to table” ingredients and sustainably sourced seafood, but the kitchen needs to get the timing down right and make sure the quality of the preparation and ingredients extends across the board. Definitely worth going, but just choose carefully.

    The food was great but the service was so slow it took away from the overall experience. I'm not sure I would recommend the restaurant because of that.

    Our server was the best. Overall, it was just okay. I had the halibut and it was a bit dry, bland. We started off with the liver pate, which was served on quite large triangular toast points. It was a bit difficult to cut into bite size pieces and too heavy to pick up and eat by hand....awkward. I booked here because we were also staying in the hotel for my birthday (which the hotel is awesome btw). I was just a little disappointed that there was no acknowledgment of the occasion mentioned when booking. Guess, I just expected too much. The wine was very nice and the aged cocktails (I had the Old Fashion) were enjoyable, with really pleasing and unexpected melded flavors. Would maybe visit again for only cocktails in their small bar which was cozy, especially after the fireplace was lit.

    Everything was wonderful the service the drinks I had that legit Fried Chicken it was incredible as with a mashed potatoes with it my wife had to have a bit and it was marvelous would come back again Christian was our waiter and he was wonderful thank y' all much !

    We found the room much too noisy, perhaps because of the special attraction of restaurant week or Super Bowl weekend. The food tasted fine , small entree portions for this special but nice presentation. What you lost on the specials you made back on the drinks, I'm sure. We were visiting from Canada, looking for ambiance and location and food. Should have gone to the Alisol.

    We have gone for many years, thru many chefs. We were looking forward to revisiting. Greeting and seating great. Waiter came by, took restaurant week orders, opened wine, very friendly. Salad arrived quick. Very small portion for a salad. Tasted great, then empty plate sat on table for 20 minutes! Diner arrived, we exchanged empty salad plates for entrees. Not fine dining! Portions too small for a even a tasting menu. Chicken and salmon tasted great. Dessert was the largest portion size of the whole night. We used to love it, not tonight, hard to go back.

    We love restaurant week in our town it gives us a chance to enjoy new restaurants without breaking the bank. Root 246 will definitely be on the list of places we return to.

    We haven't been to 246 for quite a while, but decided to try it again during restaurant week. The food was outstanding, served hot and beautifully presented. The only ding goes to the waitperson whom we asked to give us 5 minutes before ordered. A full 30 minutes later, we flagged down a busser and asked him to send our waitperson over. He did, and she did come over. With a HUGE attitude. Then passive aggressively continued the service. I get that she was very busy, but no need to leave us hanging for such a long period of time.

    We came for restaurant week. We had the salmon and the fried chicken. The salmon was delicious but unfortunately the fried chicken was very over cooked. The skin was basically burnt. Did not send back because the others in our group were already eating. The service was very good.

    I love this spot! It’s gorgeous inside and the Staff is so friendly and helpful. We came back the following evening and dined in their bar and the Manager greeted us and remembered us from the previous night. So very refreshing. We will be back!

    The food was delicious. We did the $20.20 restaurant week menu. The Salmon was marvelous as was the short ribs. Our server Dana was lovely and kind and attentive. I was just cold in the restaurant but I’m always cold!

    Went for restaurant week and the food was delicious. The waiter did inform us that the special menu was smaller portions but it was 3 courses and each course was better than the prior. Will definitely go back again so that I can order from the regular menu.

    From start to finish - just great. Food, service and ambiance was wonderful. It's no wonder that the dining room and bar were packed. We had to wait a little past our reservation time, but the host genuinely apologized and advised that patrons seemed to be spending a little longer at their tables.. That's understandable as it is very enjoyable.

    We wanted to eat here for Restaurant week and we're glad we did because although the food was good, there wasn't much of it AND the service was not the fastest. I would have been upset if I had to pay full price for everything.

    Arrived early so we could enjoy a cocktail in the bar before dinner. Bar tender was excellent - good recommendation for wine for dinner, quick turns on drinks, chatty. Superior service when we got the table. Waitress was attentive without bugging us on our anniversary dinner out. One busboy was working so hard and seemed so since, I slipped him $20 cash aside from the tip to the waitress and encouraged him to work hard and succeed in life. Dinner was superior in every way - steak for me and fish for my bride. Walked down the street afterwards to a hip wine bar and finished the evening with some red wine.

    Manager was excellent and very understanding, removing two items off our check in apology for negative issues. Unfortunately our experience at Root 246 was bad overall: although it is beautiful location, lovely ambiance, nice staff, we had inexplicably slow service (restaurant was 65% empty) and very unpleasant-tasting food. -- The lamb ossobuco with sweet potato gnocchi arrived over half an hour after ordering with all gnocci scorched on one side, gummy on the other, and the lamb overcooked and breaking apart in an unappetizing way. -- The pate tasted too strongly of blood and liver, and was spread far too thickly on four large pieces of toast, making the bread soaking wet. -- The butternut squash soup was bland and served tepid. -- The shrimp appetizer was cooked poorly, with some shrimp still bluish from undercooking throughout, others with a very hard overcooked bite. We politely refused their offer of a complimentary dessert. -- I would suggest simplifying the recipes and presentations, focusing more on the ingredients instead. I hope the food will match the beautiful setting next time we're in town.
