Great food, amazing cocktails, great bartenders. Service for actual dining left something to be desired. Server was quite rude.

We went to Roost during restaurant week in Greenville. We have enjoyed great meals there before, but actually chose Roost this time as they had lots of seating times available. What a fabulous choice it was! We shared starters of portobello bushrooms-heavenly! and a crispy porkbelly I could have made a main course of for taste and perfection! We also shared main dishes of sea scallops on risotto-perfectly cooked and yummy, and fried chicken and dumplings- the twist on dumplings made on site had a great gnochi-texture and a smooth cream sauce that was refreshing. I would put Roost at the top of your list of restaurant-week choices this year. Chef Daniel has done some very creative and tasty magic with Uber fresh and organic ingredients. Don’t miss this gem!

When we arrived, we were offered to sit OUTSIDE on the patio (enclosed with plastic & overhead heaters on a “below freezing”day) or to sit at a high top table in the bar. When we inquired about sitting in the dining room, we were told all the tables were booked with reservations. (We had also made a reservation)! We were seated in the bar. The bartender was our server. He was swamped with drink orders, making it difficult to attend to the tables in the bar (although he did the best he could). The table was not set up for dining … we had to ask for salt/pepper, sugar, butter. When the heat wasn’t blowing, it was cold & drafty as the door leading to the patio was propped open. A man, whom we assumed to be the manager, came around to see if everything was good. We were able to express our concerns to him. He was very apologetic, but made excuses of being short-staffed. Based on their lunch crowd thru the week, they apparently hadn’t properly staffed for this particular day (Sunday Brunch). Overall, this was not a good Brunch experience.

Food was decent, server was slow. I had made the reservation and the restaurant knew the size of our party, but had one server to a big room or large parties.

I also specifically asked prior to ordering anything, if we could all have separate checks. The server failed to separate the bill and took a while to fix his error.

Great job accommodating our group of 12 for a late lunch.
I was the only vegetarian in the group and found a few good options.
The food was served cold but the waitress had no problem warming up my plate.

It was good overall. Server was great. Manager and other staff made a huge deal about our reservation for 11. Acted as if they were booked solid. Got there and there were literally 5 tables in entire restaurant.

We spent last Christmas at Roost and It was one of the best experiences we’ve had dining out. This year we had high expectations based on our previous experience. The server was horrible. Never refilled drinks, offered us anything other than water, and walked away after dropping off coffee without asking if we wanted cream or sugar. He also did not clear the plates from our table. His reasoning for not filling our water glasses, “the water pitcher is empty”. I’m
Sure the experience would have been better if we had a different server. The selection of food was also better last year. We will go back next year for Christmas and hopefully have a better experience!!

The food was just okay, nothing to write home about, or rush back to order from the normal menu. The turkey was the best, and the Christmas selection was nice. If there was a desire to return, it would have been ruined by the server. There were obvious differences in her treatment of customers. We also observed the manager only visiting certain tables, even repouring their water glasses. Although our glasses were in need, we didn’t get a refill until it was time to pay! I visited several restaurants on my trip, all of wish I hope to return, this one is not on the list! Southern Culture Kitchen & Smoke on the Water are close by, both had great food and great service!

We we're at Christmas dinner. Food was good. Would have preferred some more vegetables and less starches but overall a good buffet. Some noise from a large group close by but otherwise very nice. Would go again.

My family and I visited Roost for the Christmas buffet. It was outstanding. The spread of food, traditional, seafood, and breakfast were delightful.
They also have an amazing selection of wines and beers.

We were seated away from the buffet. Very drafty because the vinyl curtain was installed incorrectly. Indoor heaters were not adequate for all seating and too warm for closer tables. Not enough servers for crowd so we waited for drinks and clearing of plates. Food was just ok. Not enough desserts or salad selections. For the price we were expecting more variety.

I’ve been to Roost several times but this was the first holiday brunch. The variety offered was great and what I ate was very good. The wait staff was very friendly for such a busy day. I think we’ll come again next Christmas!

Absolutely wonderful food. It's $30 a head on Thanksgiving and Christmas, so diners must go in with the attitude that this is a special treat rather than a "go-to" place for a meal out.

Roost is where we go for Mother's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is one of the few downtown restaurants open Christmas Day. Food is good but no wow factor. Service was very good and everyone in the holiday spirit.
We support Roost because they serve a good meal, have good service, are VERY polite, have valet parking, and make it easy to relax and enjoy downtown Greenville.

We ate there on Christmas Eve and they were out of a couple of things which was understandable. The server was great although the restaurant itself (or just where we were seated - covered patio) was very loud so it was impossible for our party to hear each other speak. I'll say the food was good - not great. For example, the vegetable curry had an over abundance of carrots and not many other vegetables.

We had a group of ten so sometimes that is hard to manage. We had to wait a long time for service. Not sure it was server’s fault. I think maybe understaffed that night. Menu could use an upgrade. Need more small plate options.

Roost is one of dozens of farm to table restaurants in Greenville. Its menu is now pretty limited. Service has a feeling of inattentiveness to it. The food is mediocre. There are many better in Greenville.

The food was very good, but the service was very slow. We will likely try Roost again and are hopeful it was just the particular waitress we had. She seemed to forget about us and our food while other tables around us were getting faster service.

We chose The Roost for our lunch at the last minute as we were looking for something that everyone could agree on. The Roost had something for everyone. It is also 4 blocks away from our office and typically we do not range that far. I must say we all felt it was worth the walk.
The food was very tasty! The garlic fries are wonderful and did not leave lingering after affects!
Our server Brittney was the epitome of an efficient server. She was there with our drinks as we took the last sip. We never had to ask. Plates were whisked away quietly and the whole lunch was a very pleasant experience.

The food is different than you find with a nice southern approach. The salmon and grits with alligator sausage were good. Soups were ok. Cocktails a bit on the slim side. Ok but not noteworthy

We have eaten at Roost on a number of occasions, and up to now we have been very pleased. This time two of the salads were very skimpy, and the bacon on one was mostly raw. The sandwich our friend got was fair, according to her. My grits with shrimp was ok. We cancelled another reservation there for the following week. We'll try them again, probably. But, consistent quality is the secret to success in the restaurant business.

I keep trying this place every time I stay at the Hyatt and each time something goes awry
Food quality is sub par - either cold or they screw up the order somehow
this time I booked on Open Table and confirmed both at check in and when seated if they confirmed me on the screen (because I did not see them do this)
then I get the Sorry we missed you message from OT with a scolding - and I had to PROVE i was there to eat sub par food

I am done with this place - the convenience of the location esp on late arrival is not worth the consistent issues - there are so many GOOD restaurants downtown and close

Met a long time friend that I had not seen in 3 years for lunch at Roost. The waiter was very accommodating without interrupting our lengthy conversation. The food was perfect - I love the Roost burger and my friend enjoyed a salad. As the crowd grew larger, it became more difficult to hear each other. The outside view is much better in the warmer weather without the plastic enclosure. Overall, everything was great and downtown was not the hassle to navigate like Haywood, Woodruff and Wade Hampton Roads in Greenville during the holiday shopping season. Little did we know the Christmas Parade was setting up for later that evening. :)

i made a last minute reservation for Thanksgiving. They served an excellent buffet with brunch and dinner items. All the dishes were good and we had excellent service. It was not an expensive meal considering it was a holiday. I also appreciated the low noise level making it easy to comfortably talk to each other.

We spent a night in Greenville on our way to Asheville the next day. It was Thanksgiving evening and I had made a reservation several weeks prior. We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving buffet with a wide variety of course selections and carving stations. The service was superb. Also, we became big fans of downtown Greenville, what a progressive downtown. We would highly recommend the Roost.
