Roost Ratings and Reviews
I keep trying this place every time I stay at the Hyatt and each time something goes awry
Food quality is sub par - either cold or they screw up the order somehow
this time I booked on Open Table and confirmed both at check in and when seated if they confirmed me on the screen (because I did not see them do this)
then I get the Sorry we missed you message from OT with a scolding - and I had to PROVE i was there to eat sub par food
I am done with this place - the convenience of the location esp on late arrival is not worth the consistent issues - there are so many GOOD restaurants downtown and close
i made a last minute reservation for Thanksgiving. They served an excellent buffet with brunch and dinner items. All the dishes were good and we had excellent service. It was not an expensive meal considering it was a holiday. I also appreciated the low noise level making it easy to comfortably talk to each other.
We had the buffet Thanksgiving afternoon. Most of the food was good but they didn’t have turkey. Come on! No turkey on Thanksgiving? They ran out and kept saying they’d have more “in 10 minutes”. 40 minutes later, they finally had some but it definitely was NOT worth the wait. It was from a boneless turkey breast. Tasted awful. Luckily the other buffet items were good. I expected more from the Roost. I will not go there for Thanksgiving again.
My sister and I had Thanksgiving lunch with a 230pm seating. We arrived early and were graciously seated. From start to finish, we have only positive comments. The food was appealing and beautifully displayed. Our server was attentive and very personable.
Thank you for a pleasurable holiday dining experience!
Great potential in the menu, but a bit more care needed in balancing flavors. The timing of the food was way too fast and all at once even though we said at the beginning we were there to enjoy a birthday meal. Sides were cold and all that was offered was a heat lamp. It wasn’t busy, and many workers were hanging out in the back of the restaurant. Love the atmosphere. Wish it the cooks and server would have taken their time.
Designer of Roost should get 5 stars. Finally a restaurant that captures the sound and allows people to enjoy the conversation at their own table. Also there are only TVs in the bar area, limiting distractions and allowing you to focus on the fabulous food and your company. Several unique vegetarian options as well as gluten-free options. Very enjoyable meal.
Our server was extremely overwhelmed and, for some reason, the manager didn't jump in as much as needed. Waited very long times to order drinks, then again for drinks to arrive, then waited 20 more minutes to put our food order in.
We had friends dining at other tables who were seated at the same time with the same amount of people in their party, and they finished their meal well before our food was served. The food was very good, though.
The reason I'd recommend this place is that the location is very convenient if staying downtown.
2nd time we’ve been and both times food has been great. Unfortunately both times we’ve had the same server and she’s not been very efficient or friendly. The first time she asked it if it was our first time and we said yes... she then proceeded to not tell us about omelets and custom egg orders— we found out after asking at the grill area. They sent us back to the table to ask her for order cards. When I did she acted quite put out about it and then took her time getting them back to us. This time was almost the same except we knew about the cards. We only had 2 at our table but 8 guests and she kept saying she would bring more over.. I just grabbed them from an empty table.. she also offered to get my small child a plastic cup vs glass and we had to remind her a few times about that — when we could find her. I guess when she decided we sat there for long enough she kept coming over every 2-3 mins— no exaggeration— to ask if we needed water, to go cups, or anything. We saw her more at the end when she made it clear she was ready for us to leave than we did when we really needed things through the meal. We took note of her name on the receipt so if we ever go back we are going to insist she not be our server.
Although rated #25 in the list of Greenville restaurants on Trip Advisor, this is not a good restaurant. Their website says they use locally sources, fresh ingredients, but ours was clearly microwaved stuff that was pre-prepared (it came out 5 minutes after we ordered--always a bad sign). It was also way over priced for its quality. I do not recommend it.
This is our favorite brunch buffet downtown. Service was efficient and genuine. (We will ask for Tommy every time we go from now on!) The buffet itself is beautifully presented with options for everyone. Biscuits with sausage gravy and the Anson Mill grits were a hit all around. The braised greens are incredible along with the salmon and fried chicken. And the kids loved the French Toast bar and the mac and cheese, of course. All around excellent value and delicious food.
I've. Even coming to Greenville the last three years to. Is it my son at Clemson. Hands down the best meal we have had. Vibe is great, service and food is great. Something for everyone in our party. I'm a type 1 diabetic and vegetarian. It's very hard to find healthy, tasty low carb food that is good. We will be back next time we visit from Massachusetts.
We had a 5:30 reservation and got seated quickly. We ordered our drinks and waited patiently until they were brought out, at which time we ordered dinner. I have to say there were very few customers (one other table of two) at that early hour. My drink had flat soda, so I was going to let the waitress know, so she could replace it, but she never came out to check on us. We drank our water, but it was never refilled. Inside, we saw her gathered around with other wait staff just talking and laughing. Her customers (us) were totally ignored. When the food came out (delivered by someone else), no mention asking about water refills or could they get anything else. Finally after we finished our meal and still waited for her to check on us, she appeared. I told her my drink was unacceptable and we wanted to pay the bill.
This was a horrible experience. We will not be returning to Roost. There are many excellent restaurants in downtown Greenville, so no need to come back here. It was a major disappointment.
We started our experience at Roost expecting the best. It's and inviting atmosphere, waiter was nice and attentive. The impression changed when the food came.
My wife selected a catfish entree and I selected a mushroom pasta dish. When the meal came her catfish looked just ok. Nothing special in presentation but the mashed purple potatoe dish looked starchy and uninviting ( as was the taste).
My mushroom pasta dish was huge (trying to copy Cheesecake Factory?). The noodles were a grayish color (kinda pad tai looking) and hardly a mushroom to be found (why should I expect that when the menu highlighted mushrooms?). It got real interesting when I started eating when I found that the pasta was made up of big clumps of pasta stuck together. Not just one but lots of them. I brought this to the attention of the waiter who looked and said hmmm, it showed I'd think be like that. I had eaten enough to know I did not want more or to wait for another dish. He took it back to the kitchen.
He returned with a complimentary cheese cake. Nice jesture. Then the bill came - still with a $19 mushroom pasta dish on it. What's wrong here? Badly executed dish, terrible pasta preparation. And literally no mushrooms when mushrooms are supposed to be the highlight.
We enjoy many amazing restaurants everywhere we travel and at home in Chicago. Including some wonderful Greenville, SC restaurants. I would not recommend this restaurant.
