Roost Ratings and Reviews
We went on a belated Valentine’s Day date and everything was amazing. We received some great wine and beer recommendations for our food and even got talked into dessert - it didn’t disappoint. We had a booth, and although we were between a lot of other tables it still felt very intimate. If you haven’t been, go! you’ll love it like we did.
We were really looking forward to dining here. It is beautifully decorated inside and we were really excited about the food because most of it was local. Our seating wasn't great. They sat us next to the server station so we could hear their conversations most of the time. And then of course they sit a large table next to us with about five young kids. I really wish restaurants would have a kid only section. Not everyone enjoys hearing loud kids while they are spending a lot of money on a nice dinner. Our server was great but she rushed us during the whole meal and we felt like we couldn't just relax. We were midway through our meal when she brought out the dessert menu. The food was ok and I was really disappointed because we both wanted to feel blown away. We got the rabbit which was good but it had so much cumin and that was all you tasted. The meatloaf was just a dense brick. No taste. The bacon jam did help but the homemade ketchup, again with the cumin. Too overpowering. I'm really bummed to leave such an unpleasant review but our experience was just that.
THANK YOU for having Vegan and Vegetarian options.!!! We tried the Butternut Squash Hummus , the Wild Mushroom "Naked" Pasta AND the Zpaghetti, and they were ALL FABULOUS!! We'll be back to try the Lavender Pumpkin Bisque and the Vegetable Curry very soon!
Wonderful food, great service, and overall fantastic evening. If you are looking for just a drink, they have a large bar area that you can sit at with some fun drink specials. The food has a farm to table feel with interest twists on classic southern food. I had a dish that was along the lines and Shrimp and Grits but had it with Alligator Sausage and it was great. I highly recommend this restaurant. Also, make sure to check out the lobby of the Hyatt Regency while you are there, as this is the restaurant for the hotel. It is a beautiful lobby with a great bar for an after dinner drink.
We were in Greenville for the Beatles Return. Was a great place to eat, lots of vegetarian options and our waiter was great...sorry I have not remembered his name...but...he used to live in Athens! We plan to come back for another show and will definitely return!!!!!
My husband ordered the Hamburger, we were extremely hungry when it came out, we were having conversations with friends when he put down his burger after eating several bites.
My husband mentioned that the texture was different and different.
Our friend said to him WOW I have ever seen a burger that rare! My husband looked at the burger and it was rare, I mean rare!!!
The sauce covered up the meat until you bite into it. It grossed us out!! The manager came over and took it off our bill, we hope he doesn’t get sick.
I took a photo of it because it the most rare burger I have ever seen.
For our meals Daniel and I ordered the Fried Chicken and Dumplings. Debbie and Doug II had the Scallops. Wow! Literally, the table went silent as we enjoyed our food so much we didn't even speak. The best Dumplings and Gravy I have ever had. My wife, a tough critic, loved her Scallops and was the first to begin the consensus dialogue for our next visit. We will return! This is our new go-to special occasion place.
The dessert options were Apple Cheesecake and Sweet Potato Creme Caramel. Once again our order split down the middle. They both were confectionary giants! I could eat these desserts every day for the rest of my life. Though surprising to me, the Sweet Potato Creme Caramel edged out the delicious Apple Cheesecake. Unique deliciousness always wins out.
Ultimately, the venue is beautiful, airy and romantic. The service was perfect-Derrick gets it. The food was awesome. Even though the restaurant was near or at capacity by the time we left, the noise level was low and the tables were spacious and comfortable. Add to that a spotless restaurant in a beautiful courtyard and we could not have expected better anywhere tonight.
They're awesome--5 star awesome. If you have $50.00 a person and want a close to perfection meal, come to Roost and find your happy place. It will change your life.
We went to Roost during restaurant week in Greenville. We have enjoyed great meals there before, but actually chose Roost this time as they had lots of seating times available. What a fabulous choice it was! We shared starters of portobello bushrooms-heavenly! and a crispy porkbelly I could have made a main course of for taste and perfection! We also shared main dishes of sea scallops on risotto-perfectly cooked and yummy, and fried chicken and dumplings- the twist on dumplings made on site had a great gnochi-texture and a smooth cream sauce that was refreshing. I would put Roost at the top of your list of restaurant-week choices this year. Chef Daniel has done some very creative and tasty magic with Uber fresh and organic ingredients. Don’t miss this gem!
We came for brunch after seeing the menu online looked amazing. When we were sat at our table we were told that weekends was a buffet only - we looked back and this was noted in fine print on the menu. Pretty deceiving. We were “assured” by our waiter that the quality of the food was still excellent... however the buffet features a poor selection of cold dried out food. I first tried the breakfast items. Which was basically cold eggs, greasy bacon, and dried up French toast. They had a lot of dinner items that didn’t look much better. I ended up getting a salad from the salad bar. At the end of our meal the table next to us was served omelettes. We asked our waiter how they got those. He told us he “forgot” to tell us we could order omelette made to order. That would of been nice to know! I feel like maybe those actually may have been good.
When we arrived, we were offered to sit OUTSIDE on the patio (enclosed with plastic & overhead heaters on a “below freezing”day) or to sit at a high top table in the bar. When we inquired about sitting in the dining room, we were told all the tables were booked with reservations. (We had also made a reservation)! We were seated in the bar. The bartender was our server. He was swamped with drink orders, making it difficult to attend to the tables in the bar (although he did the best he could). The table was not set up for dining … we had to ask for salt/pepper, sugar, butter. When the heat wasn’t blowing, it was cold & drafty as the door leading to the patio was propped open. A man, whom we assumed to be the manager, came around to see if everything was good. We were able to express our concerns to him. He was very apologetic, but made excuses of being short-staffed. Based on their lunch crowd thru the week, they apparently hadn’t properly staffed for this particular day (Sunday Brunch). Overall, this was not a good Brunch experience.
Food was decent, server was slow. I had made the reservation and the restaurant knew the size of our party, but had one server to a big room or large parties.
I also specifically asked prior to ordering anything, if we could all have separate checks. The server failed to separate the bill and took a while to fix his error.
We spent last Christmas at Roost and It was one of the best experiences we’ve had dining out. This year we had high expectations based on our previous experience. The server was horrible. Never refilled drinks, offered us anything other than water, and walked away after dropping off coffee without asking if we wanted cream or sugar. He also did not clear the plates from our table. His reasoning for not filling our water glasses, “the water pitcher is empty”. I’m
Sure the experience would have been better if we had a different server. The selection of food was also better last year. We will go back next year for Christmas and hopefully have a better experience!!
The food was just okay, nothing to write home about, or rush back to order from the normal menu. The turkey was the best, and the Christmas selection was nice. If there was a desire to return, it would have been ruined by the server. There were obvious differences in her treatment of customers. We also observed the manager only visiting certain tables, even repouring their water glasses. Although our glasses were in need, we didn’t get a refill until it was time to pay! I visited several restaurants on my trip, all of wish I hope to return, this one is not on the list! Southern Culture Kitchen & Smoke on the Water are close by, both had great food and great service!
We were seated away from the buffet. Very drafty because the vinyl curtain was installed incorrectly. Indoor heaters were not adequate for all seating and too warm for closer tables. Not enough servers for crowd so we waited for drinks and clearing of plates. Food was just ok. Not enough desserts or salad selections. For the price we were expecting more variety.
