Chicago's Roong Petch Thai Restaurant is where locals and visitors go when they crave flavorful and authentic Asian fusion cuisine served in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The crispy deep-fried chive dumplings with sweet soy dipping sauce and the grilled honey pork skewers make delectable and sharable starter options. Some of Roong Petch Thai Restaurant's specialty entrée dishes include the spicy beef red curry with peppers, bamboo shoots and peas, the bamee noodles with barbecue pork, crabmeat, peanuts and fried wontons and the marinated and grilled chicken teriyaki. A tantalizing array of vegetarian dishes, like the sweet and sour mock duck with peppers, onions and pineapple and the pad Thai noodles with tofu, crushed peanuts, scallions and sprouts, are also popular with diners.
For a sweet end to your meal at Roong Petch Thai Restaurant, indulge in the deep-fried coconut and banana spring rolls with a Thai iced tea.
Or the larb nar salad. Or anything. It's all outstanding. And top it off with Thai iced tea. I used to live around the corner from here, and I would have dinners with friends here frequently. Since moving away, I still make a point to come back here any time I'm in town.
Now, if only they would bring back the mee grob...
The food was good and the service was good too, but when I arrived they had no record of my reservation. Thankfully, they weren't crowded and could easily fit us in.
The food was good! My 3 friends and I were the only ones in the entire restaurant on a Wednesday night. Strange but since we were the only ones there - the waitress was always available! I'd go back. Beware though, the portions are small, but still good.
been coming to Roong Petch for over 15 years, still the best Pad Thai anywhere.
On a visit to Chicago we chose this restaurant based on other reviews. We didn't realise how far it was from the Magnificant Mile and were a bit concerned when we saw the restaurant. Decor is basic and the restaurant lacks 'ambience'.However the standard of the food more than made up for this - particularly the Tempura vegetables and the Chicken Thai curry!
I was looking for an affordable BYOB for my birthday dinner that could accommodate at least 10 people. I've eaten at Roong Petch in the past and have always been more than satisfied with their food but its been awhile since Ive been there after I moved away from the neighborhood and was beyond their delivery zone. They've redecorated and added a sushi bar so the ambiance was much classier than I expected or remembered. Again the food was great and the service friendly and attentive. The place is not over crowded so we didn't feel rushed to free up tables. The best part was the bill, reverse sticker shock. I would definitely pick Roong Petch for group or a date spot again.
We had been there once before with just family - this time we scheduled a birthday dinner for my sister. Sixteen of us - different ages (from 20s to 72). Table was reserved and ready, water, silverware and menu in place. Everything was done perfectly. It is BYOB but they were terrific about supplying corkscrews and glasses, keeping bottles chilling in the fridge, etc. Just cannot recommend it highly enough - everyone loved the food.
