Roof Terrace Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
First time dining here for dinner before Kennedy Center show. Not problems with reservation, promptly seated at nice table location. Service excellent; not intrusive, vigilant, and delivery by courses timed perfectly. Food outstanding. Comfortable and classy restaurant.
If you are attending any event at The Kennedy Center, this is a nice place to eat. Our server was very attentive and the entrees we ordered (the rack of lamb and the angus beef tenderloin) were well-prepared and tasty. We also enjoyed the caesar salad and the cauliflower & cashew soup appetizers. However, depending on what you are ordering, the food & drinks can be pricey and the portions can be a bit small. When you add the cost of tickets and parking, it does make an expensive evening. But if it's a special occasion, it's a nice place for a pre- or post-show meal, along with great views on the outside terrace area.
This is a regular place for dining when attending evening events at the Kennedy Center - often because I have season tickets. I had the rack of lamb for the first time. It was excellent. My companion had their special for the night - scallops that she also rated as excellent. Our waiter's suggested a wine to accompany our meal. He made a very good choice. I look forward to our next Kennedy Center event.
Food was great, with lovely presentation, and service was excellent. Pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. Portions are not large, so order accordingly. Dessert was tiny...we shouldn't have planned to share. They had us in and out in plenty of time for the show. Special attention was paid for a member of the party with food allergies. We've been several times and will definitely return.
I was surprised at the quality of the food at Roof Terrace Restaurant. I think I expected it to be more "hotel" like food. The service was excellent, the waiter was not shy about recommending his favorite foods. The bib lettuce salad was crisp and well dressed. The gnocchi was the best I've ever had, light, just chewy enough with an excellent, not overwhelming sauce. The lamb chops were well cooked and tasty.
The restaurant itself is airy and pretty quiet which was wonderful,
The only down side is the price. Our bill for two entrees, one side, one salad, proseco and coffee was $100. I do figure it all helps the Kennedy Center but after tickets and parking it comes to a very expensive evening.
Roof Terrace Restaurant and Bar is perfectly ... fine. We ate there before a show, which is probably the only reason I would go to the Kennedy Center for dinner. The service was quite good, and they are clearly used to moving a lot of people through quickly and efficiently. Food choices were limited, but there is something for everyone. This is a lovely spot for a drink and views of the DC.
We go here before every show - predictable. We go for full bar and table service. Menu is typically tasty, just don't expect it hot. Lukewarm, yes, but feels like it is not prepared to order. Surprised our table of 6 was actually rushed to pay and get to our show on time ... that doesn't usually happen when we are a table for 2. It is better than the cafeteria ... but I am looking forward to other dining options when the new part of the Kennedy Center is complete.
When we arrived the dining room was full. Within 10 min the dining room was empty... Making the atmosphere poor. Service staff were pleasant but it was evident they wanted to go home. All tables were being reset for the next day. Perhaps the last Reservation time sb 6:00pm. Difficult to relax enjoy your meal.
Great service — servers will make sure you get to your show without making you feel like the dining tempo is totally off . The atmosphere is a little bit like a country club ballroom and the tables are really mashed in there but you go to The Terrace to have a sit down meal with a 2 minute commute to your show. Wine list is ok and the cocktails are decent. The chef’s food was presented nicely and overall it’s ok for the price but the wow factor is diminished by the over-lit, cram a table in, atmosphere. If you’re not going to a show The Terrace does not stand on its own but if you are... give it a try and ask for a corner table.
The views are fantastic!! Service was also terrific. Food tasted good and presentation was nice. However, it’s not a cozy or intimate setting. Most problematic are the exorbitant prices and limited menu with ingredients I had to look up to understand. Glad I did because I have to avoid certain tree nuts. The bill was $95 plus tip, no dessert, no alcohol, and I left still a little hungry. $4.50 for a glass of iced tea!!
Great views and good food. However, I think the servers were overwhelmed with everyone arriving all at once. It was difficult to get the waiter's attention to order dessert - and they had run out of dessert menus! Once we received our food, it was delicious!
