The Roof Garden at The Peninsula Beverly Hills Ratings and Reviews
One serious problem - and this has never happened before in years at your wonderful venue - was my guest sept back the crab salad. The former foreign minister of Thailand and a total seafood "expert," he said it had gone foul. I was embarrassed and surprised. Please take no such chances. Your sterling reputation is worth, well, gold.
For $28 I expected more than 6 small overcooked shrimp on a single slice of tomato, a few small pieces of pineapple and some very thinly sliced relish. That was it- no side salad or other accompaniment. It would have made a nice appetizer for half the price! The banana pudding (and half whipped cream)was underwhelming and tasteless. Very odd restaurant.....you have to walk down the hallway of the 5th floor hotel, through the spa and watch sunbathers walk through the restaurant t get to the pool. Meh!
I took my family here for my daughter's graduation from High School. You come to a restaurant like the Roof Garden for the outdoor ambience - so it was a shame that the first two tables we were offered (I had reserved two weeks in advance) were facing the kitchen and a concrete wall. I am prepared to pay elevated prices in exchange for an upscale, outdoor experience but I was not prepared for such culinary mediocrity. The two Chinese Chicken salads ($25 each) were bland and easily outclassed by Chin Chin or its equivalent. (It is one of my mother's favorite dishes and she barely touched hers). My Portobello/Black Bean Burger ($22) was dry and uninspired. My Hearts of Palms salad ($16) had a few vague slivers of hearts of palms and a mound of damp, tasteless frisee lettuce. The special greek salad was small, dominated by tomatoes, and had barely any feta cheese. The small piece of salmon that came on top cost an additional $18. My daughter ordered a diet coke which came in that ridiculously small 8 oz. bottle and cost $6.50. We honestly could have had better tasting and more satisfying dining experience at a local deli. The rooftop view is not worth the expense, since you actually can't see off the rooftop. All you can see is the disappointed faces of your fellow diners. The only positive note was the table service. Total cost with tip for six: just under $400. I would avoid this restaurant.
Disappointed with the food this time. Vege burger was cold, mushy with no discernible taste. Other meals at the table were fine, and I have had many wonderful meals here. Just an off night on what I ordered (which others tasted, with same opinion.)
This is one of my favorite places to eat and to take guests, so I will definitely be back.
I met a friend here to catch up and it was the perfect place. The heaters were perfect, kept us warm but not too hot like so many can be. My salmon was cooked perfectly and my friends mushroom burger and fries were to die for. They have a great wine selection and everyone in the hotel is lovely and helpful.
We had an awful experience. My husband is a CANCER patient. The Service staff was offensive in their lack of understand what it means to fight so hard to get out of bed for Valentine's Day - only to be ignored and harassed by wait staff, and escalated a very private medical condition into one where the Matr'e de, had Security corner him into a bank of elevators - and try to get us to leave. I am a 35-year Hotel Executive (4-5 Stars), and we asked for the Manager-On-Duty (MOD). He helped as much as possible - but uncaring, self centered people who have NO TRAINING in dealing with ill/terminal people/patients is unforgiveable. Staff was unkind - period We will never use the Roof Garden, or the Peninsula Hotel again.
Nice restaurant, excellent service, manager, Andrew, outstanding. It's near the pool so much better for lunch or casual gatherings than dinner. Lovely atmosphere and evening ambiance. If you're looking for a divine dinner, this would not be the place, but the bread is great. Drinks are highly priced, but then, it is part of the Peninsula. We had a lovely time considering that most restaurants and hotels were fully booked and had nothing available with such short notice as one day. We had access to the bar downstairs after dinner and were able to enjoy the New Year's festivities with hats and blowers for the midnight hour. Great time with friends.
