Very nice prefixe menu with variety of selections. Service from Mario was excellent. Only detraction from our meal was a population of fruit flies that needed to be swatted away. Also chef is a little heavy on salt, especially in the clam chowder. Octopus and mussels were great appetizers and byob is also nice.
Surprisingly nice find in the area. Delicious Italian place has wonderful decor and ambiance, that is elegant and not imposing. Weeknights there is a Prix Fixe menu, which is a 4 course meal with a good selection of dishes. I opted for this, as did my dining companion and we were both very happy.
One surprise, as out of towners, is that this town does not apparently give liquor licenses to restaurants! However, there is a liquor store with good selection and Romolas does not have corkage fees, so we were able to have our choice of drink at a quite reasonable cost.
The waitstaff was helpful and pleasant, and we felt that the service was excellent and would go there again.
The food is fabulous! Very fresh and perfectly cooked and presented. We stuck with the seafood for both apps and dinner. Room is noisy from the adjacent restaurant with a shared hallway. Casual but neat. BYO and there is a liquor store nearby so you can easily pick up something if you forget. Wait staff helped us celebrate our anniversary with a special dessert at the end. It is pricey, but for a special occasion, I'd say go for it!
My family and I went to Romola's Seafood & Grille for Easter dinner. We had a reservation at 3:00 PM and we were seated immediately by our very friendly hostess. Mario, our waiter, was very knowledgable and well versed in the menu and offered the specials while opening our wine, and also answered some of our questions about the menu. Without a doubt, the Prix Fixe menu is the best bang for your buck - 4 courses for $39. The offerings on the menu are varied but all equally fresh and delicious! Must haves are the buffalo mozzarella appetizer (pictured), eggplant rollantini, calamari (not on the Prix Fixe, but definitely worth it), the rack of lamb, and the lobster ravioli. Bring a bottle or two of wine and enjoy a fabulous meal - always such a treat!
Absolutely love the place...specials always have something great!
This has become one of our favorite local restaurants. The staff is very warm and welcoming. Highly attentive. But, not intrusive. We have been here several times. Fish dishes are always fresh and delicious. Though we have never been disappointed with anything, from appetizers through dessert. Fun atmosphere. But, quiet enough for good conversation. BYOB is great. Able to pair a great bottle with a fantastic dinner, without breaking the bank.
Another great experience at Romolas, you really should give it a try.
Great food and service.
Everything about our dining experience at Romola’s was wonderful. Our server read us the specials which had a nice variety. My date ordered the filet mignon which was in the special of the evening. It was served with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was so tender and tasty. I ordered the Chicken Milanese from the menu. The chicken was so crispy and light and the arugula was a perfect addition. We share the mixed berry dessert which was both tart and sweet. If I were at home I wouid have licked the plate clean. I will definitely be back.
Our main issue was that we made reservations through Open Table then had to wait more than 30 minutes to be seated. We spent some of that time sitting in their pizza place next store. I get that they were busy but they could have been a bit more proactive about making us happy. Plus the place is very noisy when crowded. Fine if you are with a group of friends but not ideal for a dinner out as a couple.
We celebrated a friend's birthday. The staff was very attentive, friendly and professional. We particularly enjoyed our interaction with the staff at the end of the night in which they shared the history of the restaurant. The house salad special and calamari were very good appetizers. Four different entrees were exceptional (e.g., sea bass, tuna, seafood mix, linguine and seafood). Dessert plates (all 3) cleared (bananas foster, chocolate molten cake and crème burlee). An enjoyable evening !! Based upon a few reviews on yelp we were skeptical however after our experience we all agreed we would definitely return to the restaurant.
Forgot to bring the oysters I ordered. Everything else was good
We went for a belated Vaentine's Day dinner. It was our first time at Romola's and we enjoyed it very much. Friendly, efficient service and excellent food in a nice setting.
My oysters were fresh and sweet, the beet salad tasty and well dressed. My wife loved her asparagus soup with crabmeat, which to her qualified as a comfort food. My sea bass was crispy on top and cooked perfectly . It was served on a bed of cannellini beans and risotto that was fantastic, but a vegetable of some sort, perhaps a spinach or broccoli rabe, would have been a welcome addition. My wife had a dish with crabmeat and cherry tomatoes over cappellini in a tomato broth. She said it wasn't exactly what she expected but she did polish it off. We capped it off with chocolate cake.
The co-owner Sonny came over to say hello. He said he recognized us and indeed we recognized him from his days at Aquaviva in Westfield. When we told him we used to love his lobster ravioli there he said that he has the same chef and that they do make the lobster ravioli there. We will definitely go back for that and to try other things on the menu. We were there on a Saturday night, but we were impressed with the selection and price of their prix fixe menu that's available on other days. If you go, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Incredibly gracious service, outstanding quality of food in a classy continental setting. A true gem! It might just become your new go to spot for perfect evening of fine dining.
Although all the waitresses were very polite, the service was slow. The food took a while, and had to ask for water and bread more than once. I think the staff was just overwhelmed since we went for Valentine's day and the place was packed. The food was worth every penny though, it was delicious! I would go back, just not on a holiday.
Valentines Day. Server spilled appetizer plate all over table cloth. Remained wet for duration of meal. Took over an hour to get dinner. Had to ask 3 different people to check on food. Finally came and one entree was barely warm. Had to send it back. Romantic meal ruined. Left in a very nasty mood
Great atmosphere, very good and unique menu options. Attentive staff and the owner is a genuine guy that cares if his customers are enjoying themselves.
My husband and I have been to Romola's on several occasions. We have never been disappointed in the quality of the food and presentation.
Good selection however i ordered the pasta fry diablo and the food although was fresh had not spice. Service was average water glasses constantly keep full
Never disappointed in anything we ever had. Sonny is a great host and always goes the extra mile
My husband and I were in town for just one night and were looking for a good, no-hassle dinner after traveling all day. We were able to make a last minute reservation at Romola's which we chose because of the Open Table reviews. The food was excellent. We were surprised that the restaurant had no liquor license but were able to walk next door to the liquor store for a bottle of wine. We will definitely return when we visit Cranford in the future.
Amazing food and great service every time! Consistent quality and service
I was really excited to try this restaurant based on reviews. The service was great, really attentive. The food was hit or miss. The special branzino was well prepared, but the red snapper livornese was disappointing. The fish was overcooked and the sauce wasn’t as rich or tasty as It should have been.
Maybe it was an off night but for the prices they charge the food should be perfect.
Very nice restaurant, romantic and nice lighting. It's BYOB but the bill was still high. Food was average--fra diablo at $30 was not that spicey, and chicken dish was plain and covered with arugula so you could not see what was underneath. Service was very good so no complaints there! Desserts were very good especially the break pudding. I would return for dessert and bring a nice port or bottle of wine since the atmosphere is very nice.
It was New Years Eve and we had a 6:30 reservation, arriving at 6:15. We weren't seated in the main restaurant, but rather in the room behind the hostess station. For the first half hour we were the only table there. So far no complaints. Knowing it was New Years Eve I was ready to allow for inconsistencies. Wine opened, specials read, and our orders taken. In no time at all we had our appetizers and right after those plates were cleared the entrees arrived. I looked at the time and only half an hour had passed. We would be out of the restaurant in an hour at that rate. I understand turnover on a busy night is important but I think an hour and a half should be allowed. After the entree we ordered dessert and for some reason that took forever. Strange. Other than the odd pacing of the meal our only complaint was gnats. There were two gnats flying around our table during the meal. We managed to kill one and soon after the second appeared. We have dined here many times before and will return again knowing on a normal night the pacing is a lot better.
Christmas Eve dinner was fantastic. Loved the scampi and the oysters. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the meal. Thanks to Sonny for a very special night for our family.
Christmas eve was my 1st visit and def not my last. My elderly father and brother had a perfect evening. It was exactly what I wanted. It was special. I loved that there was a real taper candle on every table. It was the ideal atmosphere.
Sonny and his gang never disappoint. Good food, service and value.
BYOB always make it affordable.
My wife and I went out for a special dinner just before Christmas as we usually do and chose Romola's this time. We have dined here before and were always pleased with the food and the staff. I highly recommend this establishment for a special meal.
This was our first time at this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised...very enjoyable lunch of salmon with a salad. We will definitely be going back.
Awesome place , loved it
This was a delightful surprise. What we thought was only a seafood restaurant turns our to be much more. The chicken Milanese wonderful as were they lamb chops. It is very lovely and elegant inside with comfortable space between the tables. Top quality on everything! Service was very good and thoughtful - down to the candle on my husband's dessert for his birthday.
Don't let the website be your guide - they are open on Mondays. Needless to say it was very quite on a Monday.
Had a nice date night here. Good seafood entrees and fish prepared at my table. Servers were very attentive.
Excellent food and impressive service. My Red Snapper with clams, and shrimp over linguini was delicious. Thank you for a enjoyable evening.
Overall--a wonderful evening. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Food quality and presentation were far above acceptable. We were not rushed and enjoyed the experience. The nice birthday dessert was appreciated. Good to know about this venue.
Excellent service and food. Have been here before and will return.
This was our third time to Romola's, and we are never disappointed. The food is wonderful, the portion sizes are just right, and everything is well seasoned. This restaurant has the absolute best service of anywhere around. The staff is so attentive, without being overbearing. I would highly recommend Romola's as a place to catch up with friends, or a great location for a date night!
We were in on a quiet Saturday night. The service was attentive, including tableside visits by the owner and the chef. The grilled octopus appetizer was cooked perfectly and the rainbow trout special with white wine and capers was light and the vegetables just the right amount of al dente. Mashed potatoes usually look pretty bland, but not when it is hiding under a beautiful flower. This restaurant is BYOB but if you forget to bring some, there's a liquor store 2 blocks away. A lovely meal.
